77 Chapter 77: Blood Bank.
The heavy sound of the rain droplets pouring against the rooftops resounded across Xavier and Sophie’s ears as they leapt from building to building on their way to the nearest hospital.
Xavier let out a sigh of relief at the fact that his supply bag was water proof as the rain poured down on it.
Inside, both his phone along with Sophie’s were connected to a wireless charger. Xavier was surprised when she even pulled out her phone in the first place.
“The flood is getting worse.” Sophie muttered. “At this rate the city will be completely flooded in no time…”
“Yeah…” Xavier responded as he glanced down.
Even with all the sewers around, the flood was on growing exponentially, the roads were filled with floating corpses and trash.
The stream of water was even red in some parts because of all the blood which was picked up. The sight was quite hard to take in. There was no telling when things would get better or even if they’d get better.
If all of this wasn’t proof that everything was ending then Xavier didn’t know what was.
“Do you know anything about what’s causing this horrible weather?” Xavier asked as they leapt over to the next building.
Sophie shrugged her shoulders.
“Beats me… But if I had to guess, I’d say it has something to do with that.” She muttered as she pointed up at the giant black sphere over their heads.
The dimensional rift..
‘Ever since it appeared… No, even before it. That thing has just been causing problems one after another.’
‘The Vampires are enough for me, If that shit starts causing problems then I can’t see any happy endings.’
*SwoosH!*
Xavier’s thoughts were interrupted as the two suddenly came to a stop on top of a building in front of their destination.
He leaned over the building’s edge despite it being unnecessary to truly confirm whether or not it was the place they were looking for.
‘Yep, that’s a hospital alright.’
They’d finally arrived at one of the hospitals in Knightsbridge.
“Any other entrances that you know, Mrs know-it-all?” Asked Xavier.
The flood had risen to waist level, for someone short like Xavier or Sophie it would definitely be an unpleasant experience trying to pass by there.
“Even my knowledge is limited. I’m not a scholar, I’m a fighter… But yeah, there should be an entrance in the roof, most hospitals do, based on what I’ve seen.” She said.
Xavier looked at the hospital before slowly looking upwards.
There were quite a lot of a floors, the way up towards the roof was a long one. But Xavier didn’t seem to mind.
“You cool with climbing up?” Xavier asked.
She gave Xavier a confused look.
“Yeah but why not take a more fun approach?”
Xavier raised his brows.
[Thread Manipulation: Bundle Of Threads – Slingshot.]
Threads extended out of the girls finger tips before digging into the floor of the roof they were on and taking the shape of a giant slingshot.
“This is your idea of fun?” Xavier asked as he leapt onto the centre of it.
“Trust me, it is.” She responded with a proud smile as she flicked her finger back.
The moment she did so, the thread around the centre secured Xavier in place while the rest of the threads stretched out, pulling Xavier further and further back with each passing second.
When it reached it’s maximum stretch, the Sophie waved at Xavier with a smile. There was something Xavier found off about her expression.
“Wai-“
*SWOOSH!*
And just like that, Xavier’s figure blurred, he was launched upwards soaring through the air at immense speed.
The water droplets crashing against his face, the cold breeze and the view of the city from a much higher point than before.
Xavier didn’t know why but the experienced turned out much better than expected.
He’d ended up going well past the hospital’s roof, and was seemingly floating in the middle of the air with such a nice view below him.
With a blushing expression Xavier looked around, enjoying the moment for a few seconds before it all began to go downhill.
‘Fuck- How many times am I going to fall in one day?!’ Xavier questioned himself mid-air as he began taking swim strokes to bring his figure closer and closer to the hospitals rooftop.
‘Damn it! If I’m going to crash, I’m crashing on that roof!’
But once he was right over the roof, Xavier began having second thoughts as he recalled the pain from the fall he’d sustained by the smiling ogre.
Xavier grit his teeth and prepped himself for a world of pain right before he landed.
*THUMP!*
Yet contrary to his expectations, there was no pain.
He looked down only to find a bundle of threads beneath him in the shape of a cushion.
“…”
Looking up he found Sophie smiling at him with a thumbs up. Her luminous orange hair which was red around the edges, swaying as a strong breeze blew by.
“So? How was the view?”
“It was good…” Xavier responded as he stared at her. “How did you get here before me?”
She pointed at the rooftops edge.
“I ran up the wall with my threads.”
“…”
With a dejected and envious look, Xavier walked over towards the rooftop door ahead of them. It was there just as she’d said.
“What are we looking for in here, anyways?” She asked.
“Ah right, I haven’t told you yet… We’re going to get as many blood bags as we can.”
“In that case, wouldn’t a blood bank be better?”
Xavier halted.
“Do you know any blood banks around here?” He asked.
Sophie thought about it for a second before shaking her head.
“There’s also the case of Vampires guarding the blood banks right? Same could be said for hospitals but it’s much more rigid there, am I wrong?” Xavier asked.
Sophie thought about it again for a while before shaking her head. “Nope, you’re right.”
“Good.” Xavier responded while secretly breathing a sigh of relief.
‘Are you kidding me…? I can’t believe I didn’t think of heading straight for a blood bank… After all that’s where the hospitals get their blood from.’ Xavier thought to himself while facepalming himself.
