Reverend Insanity : Blood Path
Chapter 67 Fang Yuan Rebirth
Southern Border
Spring rain quietly fell over Qing Mao Mountain.
It was already late at night. A gentle breeze drifted through the rain, carrying a trace of spring’s chill. Yet Qing Mao Mountain was far from dark. From the mountainside to the foot of the mountain, countless lights stretched through the night like a bright ribbon.
They came from the stilted bamboo buildings scattered across the mountain. Built in the traditional southern style, thousands of lanterns illuminated the mountain beneath the curtain of rain.
On one of these bamboo buildings stood an ordinary-looking youth. His wide sleeves swayed gently in the breeze as he quietly looked at the lights sparkling across the mountain, his clear eyes filled with complex emotions. “Gu Yue Village… Could this really be five hundred years ago? The Spring Autumn Cicada I just refined actually worked…” Fang Yuan stood beside the window, his gaze deep as he allowed the wind and rain to blow against him.
Spring Autumn Cicada ranked seventh among the Ten Great Mystical Gu, so naturally, its ability was extraordinary. Its effect was not complicated. It could travel against the River of Time, carrying the Gu Master’s will back into the past. In simple terms, it allowed rebirth.
“I never expected that I would actually succeed in using Spring Autumn Cicada and return five hundred years into the past!” Fang Yuan raised his hand and stared intently at his young, pale palm before slowly clenching his fist, feeling the reality of everything before him. The soft pattering of rain against the window entered his ears. He slowly closed his eyes, and only after a long while did he open them again and sigh. “These five hundred years truly feel like a great dream.”
His thoughts drifted toward his previous life on Earth and the five hundred years he had spent in this world. Fang Yuan had originally been a Chinese scholar on Earth who unexpectedly transmigrated here. He spent the first three hundred years wandering through countless hardships and upheavals, then another two hundred years traveling across the five regions before finally establishing himself in the Central Continent. There, he founded the Blood Wing Demon Sect and eventually became a Rank Six Blood Path Gu Immortal. Five hundred years had passed before he knew it.
Unfortunately, Fang Yuan’s aptitude had always been poor, and his life was filled with twists and setbacks. Although he eventually became a Gu Immortal, he did not possess even a single Immortal Gu. Only after several hundred years of accumulation did he finally gather enough resources to attempt refining the Rank Six Spring Autumn Cicada, an Immortal Gu that did not even belong to Blood Path.
With no other choice, Fang Yuan placed his hopes of advancing to Rank Seven on Spring Autumn Cicada. After becoming an immortal, he slaughtered countless people, burned and plundered wherever necessary, and committed innumerable atrocities to gather the required materials. After several years of preparation and consuming countless precious Gu materials and mortal Gu, he finally succeeded in refining Spring Autumn Cicada.
Unfortunately, the moment the refinement succeeded, Central Continent’s righteous Gu Immortals surrounded him. With no path of escape, Fang Yuan chose to self-detonate and die together with everything around him. Yet unexpectedly, Spring Autumn Cicada activated at the final moment, carrying his will five hundred years into the past and granting him a second life.
The facts before him could no longer be denied. Gu Yue Fang Yuan, the former Rank Six Blood Path demonic Gu Immortal, had truly been reborn!
“It’s a pity about Spring Autumn Cicada. Refining such a precious Gu took an enormous amount of effort. I slaughtered hundreds of thousands for it, provoking the wrath of Heaven and the hatred of countless people…” Fang Yuan sighed inwardly. Although he had successfully returned five hundred years into the past, Spring Autumn Cicada itself had not returned with him.
Man was the spirit of all living beings, while Gu were the essence of heaven and earth. Countless strange and mysterious Gu existed throughout the world. Some could only be activated once or several times before disappearing completely, while others could be repeatedly used as long as they were properly fed and maintained. From what Fang Yuan could tell, a Top tier Gu like Spring Autumn Cicada was most likely a consumable Gu that exhausted itself after a single use.
“But even if it’s gone, I can simply refine it again. If I succeeded in my previous life, why couldn’t I succeed in this life?” Thinking of this, Fang Yuan felt ambition surge within his chest. Compared to the opportunity to live another life, losing Spring Autumn Cicada was a price he could easily accept. Besides, he had not returned empty-handed.
His greatest treasure was the memories and experiences accumulated throughout the next five hundred years, along with the vision and perspective that came with them. More importantly, as someone who had returned from five hundred years in the future, Fang Yuan remembered countless inheritances that had yet to be discovered and numerous major events that had yet to occur. He knew where opportunities would emerge, which forces would rise and fall, and how many seemingly insignificant people would eventually shake the five regions.
Among those people were secluded old monsters, dazzling geniuses, and future experts who had not even been born yet. Added to this were the countless hardships Fang Yuan himself had endured during five hundred years of cultivation, along with the rich combat experience he had accumulated through innumerable battles.
In other words, the reborn Fang Yuan possessed knowledge that no one else in this era could possibly have. He knew countless opportunities hidden throughout the world and understood the direction many future events would take. As long as he made proper use of this advantage, rising through the mortal world and reclaiming the power he had possessed in his previous life should not be difficult. He might even surpass his former achievements and reach heights that had once been beyond his grasp.
“So, now that I’ve been reborn, what should I do first?”
Although excitement surged through his heart, Fang Yuan remained rational. He quickly suppressed his emotions and gazed through the window at the rain falling through the darkness, calmly considering his next move.
Many of the hidden treasures and inheritances Fang Yuan remembered were far beyond what his current cultivation could handle. Even if he obtained them now, he would have no ability to protect or make use of them. Instead, they would only bring disaster upon him. A man could be innocent, yet possessing a treasure could itself become a crime.
Therefore, the first problem Fang Yuan faced after his rebirth was obvious: he needed to raise his cultivation as quickly as possible. If he progressed as slowly as he had in his previous life, many of the opportunities within his memories would be seized by others long before he became strong enough to obtain them. By then, even knowing where those inheritances and treasures were hidden would be useless.
