Chapter 29 Humiliation

In the end, everyone silently reached the same conclusion.

Tie Yuning’s investigation had to end there.

They were already close to Jia Family Village.

As long as they returned safely, everything else could wait.

As for the person who had attracted the beast hordes and endangered everyone’s lives, no one cared anymore.

Most of them had already recovered their losses by taking over the goods left behind by the dead.

Since they themselves had suffered no further losses, the truth no longer mattered.

Those who had died were simply unfortunate.

They could only blame their own fate.

Jia Hu exchanged a few glances with the other caravan leaders before smiling warmly at Tie Yuning.

“Miss Tie, we’ve suddenly remembered a few clues that might be important.

Would you mind giving us some time to discuss them first?”

This left Tie Yuning completely bewildered.

How could this be?

I haven’t found the culprit yet.

Besides, if they solve the case before I do, wouldn’t that make me look incompetent?

However, Jia Hu was the caravan leader, while Tie Yuning was merely a healing Gu Master traveling with the caravan.

She had no authority to object and could only nod.

“Very well.

Then please discuss it among yourselves first, Vice Leaders.

If you discover any clues, please let me know immediately.”

Tie Yuning left the meeting with a puzzled expression.

She still could not understand why everyone had suddenly decided to end the investigation.

With nothing else to do, Tie Yuning returned to finish her meal.

“What’s this?” She picked up a piece of food from her plate.

Several black hairs clung to it, hidden beneath the sauce, so she hadn’t noticed them earlier.

Looking closer, she saw a pair of long, yellowish incisors protruding from it.

A strange feeling rose in her chest, quickly replaced by disgust.

“T…

This…

this is a rat’s head!?”

Who?

Who would put something so disgusting in her food?

If the rat’s head was here, then where was the rest of its body?

Tie Yuning’s stomach lurched.

A powerful wave of nausea surged upward, nearly forcing her to vomit.

“Oh?

She’s so delicate she can’t even eat a duck neck.

What a waste.” A slightly plump female Gu Master walked over.

Her face was covered in heavy makeup, and the strong scent of rouge and perfume drifted toward Tie Yuning.

Tie Yuning recognized her.

She was a logistics Gu Master in the caravan and also a relative of one of the vice leaders.

Suppressing the nausea, Tie Yuning used her chopsticks to stir the food around.

After confirming that only this one disgusting object was mixed into her meal while the rest of the food was clean, she finally let out a quiet sigh of relief.

When she looked up again, she met the woman’s cold, mocking smile.

Anger immediately flared in her heart.

“What did you just say?

Duck neck?

If your eyes aren’t working, you should donate them to someone who needs them.

Does that look like a duck neck to you?”

The logistics Gu Master burst into laughter.

She then winked and waved at the nearby Gu Masters and mortals.

“Everyone, come take a look!

This little girl is claiming the duck neck I served her is actually a rat’s head.

She’s trying to frame me!”

A female Gu Master beside her covered her mouth in exaggerated surprise.

“Isn’t that obviously a duck neck?

You’ve never seen one before?”

“Exactly!” Another logistics Gu Master chimed in.

“This dish was personally prepared by Cook Kang, the finest cook in the caravan.

Young lady, how can you slander an innocent man without any evidence?”

A nearby mortal servant shook his head.

“So that’s the problem.

She’s gotten too used to eating and drinking with the vice leaders.

No wonder she’s started looking down on the food the rest of us eat.”

“Don’t put it that way,” another woman said with a meaningful smile.

“Everyone has their own way of getting ahead.

Besides, not everyone is as…

broad-minded as Miss Tie.”

As soon as those words left her mouth, several people exchanged knowing glances before bursting into laughter.

Their eyes were filled with undisguised ridicule as they looked at Tie Yuning.

The last remark was far more vicious than the others.

It was no longer simple mockery, but a blatant attempt to smear Tie Yuning’s reputation.

“You…!” Tie Yuning froze for a moment before realizing what they were implying.

They must have noticed the few times she had secretly gone to seek Lin Feng’s guidance.

She had never expected those innocent visits to become the source of such filthy rumors.

“What?

Am I wrong?” the logistics Gu Master sneered, her voice brimming with confidence, as though she possessed undeniable proof.

“Since you’ve already done it, what are you so embarrassed about?

We all understand.”

Understand, my ass!

Fury surged through Tie Yuning.

Unable to endure the humiliation any longer, she lunged at the logistics Gu Master.
