Reverend Insanity : Blood Path
Chapter 117 Bai Clan Historical Records
Bai Clan Village.
Lin Feng held the historical records Bai Ning Bing had brought over and casually flipped through them. After reading several pages, he looked up with an amused expression.
“I didn’t expect the Bai Clan to be the earliest inhabitants of Qing Mao Mountain. Heh, let me see how you managed to get overtaken by the Gu Yue Clan.”
Bai Ning Bing had his legs resting on the table and showed no reaction to Lin Feng’s teasing. Instead, he replied disdainfully, “Naturally because those Bai Clan ancestors were useless. If they can’t even preserve their advantage, who else can they blame?”
He shifted lazily in his chair. “Even now, there isn’t a single Gu Master in Bai Clan Village who can compare with Gu Yue Qing Shu. They’re all useless. They’ve made my life so boring that I can’t even find a decent opponent.”
Seeing Bai Ning Bing casually insulting his own ancestors and clansmen, Lin Feng couldn’t help but laugh. This complete indifference toward blood ties was already showing traces of the Bai Ning Bing who would later walk the demonic path without hesitation.
“Hey, Ning Bing, this is still your own clan. Can’t you show them a little mercy?”
“So what if they’re my clan?” Bai Ning Bing answered calmly, a blade of grass held between his teeth. “What connection do I have with them besides sharing the same bloodline? Only the clan leader genuinely cares about me. The others either fear me or want to use my strength. What real feelings are there between us?”
Bai Ning Bing wore a white martial robe and spoke without the slightest anger, as though he were discussing people completely unrelated to himself.
Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he removed the blade of grass and leaned toward Lin Feng. Resting his chin on his hands, Bai Ning Bing narrowed his ice-blue eyes with a smile.
“If the clan leader didn’t keep talking about how I should strengthen the Bai Clan and lead it to prosperity, I would’ve left Qing Mao Mountain long ago.”
His smile grew wider. “Lin Feng, why don’t you take me with you? I can leave with your caravan. You keep telling me about all those places outside Qing Mao Mountain, and they sound far more interesting than this place. There’s nobody worth fighting here. It’s so boring that I feel like I’m suffocating.”
Lin Feng coughed awkwardly. He had only been joking around with Bai Ning Bing, but taking him away from Qing Mao Mountain was an entirely different matter.
Take you with me? I’m not insane. Bai Ning Bing possessed the Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique. Once his aperture could no longer endure the pressure and he self-detonated, the resulting explosion could freeze nearly the entirety of Qing Mao Mountain. Even Rank Five experts such as First Gen Gu Yue and Lord Sky Crane had barely escaped the original disaster with their lives.
Taking Bai Ning Bing along with the caravan would be no different from carrying a bomb whose fuse was already burning.
Lin Feng had no intention of inviting that kind of trouble. He immediately lowered his gaze back to the records and changed the subject. “Hmm? Your clan’s records actually contain information about the other families?”
Lin Feng turned to another page, his expression becoming more interested.
“That’s strange. I don’t remember the Qi Clan, Chi Clan, or Xue Clan ever establishing villages on Qing Mao Mountain. So why does the Bai Clan have records concerning them?”
“Qi Clan, Chi Clan, Xue Clan…” Bai Ning Bing thought for a moment. “I remember the clan leader mentioning them before. Apparently, those clans were once allies of the Bai Clan, but for some reason, contact between them was eventually lost.”
Lin Feng continued reading through the old records. Bai Clan’s information on these clans was surprisingly detailed. It recorded not only the locations of their settlements, but also the Gu commonly used by each clan, along with their customs, habits, and other information.
It seems Bai Xiang prepared quite thoroughly.
Lin Feng quickly understood the reason. Bai Xiang had probably anticipated that the Five Xiangs’ wager might eventually turn hostile and deliberately left information about the other four bloodlines for his descendants. If the opportunity ever arose, Bai Clan could use these records to locate and control the other descendants, just as Qi Clan would eventually do to Ni Xiang’s descendants.
That was hardly surprising. The Five Xiangs had all been demonic path Gu Immortals. Even though they had made a wager, none of them would blindly trust the others or leave everything to their descendants’ abilities.
“So…” Bai Ning Bing leaned closer, a trace of expectation appearing in his eyes. “Are you going to take me with you?”
He already knew the chances were small, but he still wanted to hear Lin Feng’s answer.
“No.” Lin Feng refused without hesitation.
Even without considering the Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique, he could not casually take Bai Clan’s young clan leader away with his caravan. If Bai Ning Bing suddenly disappeared with him, the Bai Clan would almost certainly send Gu Masters after them.
Lin Feng shook his head and changed the subject. “You’re Bai Clan’s young clan leader. You have your own responsibilities here. But I did finish refining the Gu you wanted.”
He reached into his aperture and took out a Gu. The Gu was completely white and shaped like a teardrop. Its smooth crystalline surface gleamed beneath the light, making it resemble a beautifully carved gemstone.
Rank Three Frost Demon Gu!
Bai Ning Bing’s disappointment immediately faded as his attention was drawn toward the Gu.
“This is Frost Demon Gu?”
He took it from Lin Feng and examined it curiously. After refining the Gu, Bai Ning Bing immediately poured primeval essence into it and activated its ability.
A layer of deep-blue frost spread across his left hand before rapidly climbing along his arm. Within moments, his entire left arm had transformed into translucent blue ice. Even the bones inside could be clearly seen through the frozen flesh.
Among Ice and Snow Path transformation Gu, Frost Demon Gu, Snow Maiden Gu, and Ice Crystal Gu were three well-known choices. Ice Crystal Gu was particularly suitable for male Gu Masters, while Snow Maiden Gu was more suitable for female Gu Masters, with both placing greater emphasis on strengthening defense.
Frost Demon Gu was different. Its transformation greatly enhanced the power of offensive Ice Path Gu, making it particularly suitable for Gu Masters who favored aggressive combat.
Its weakness, however, was equally obvious.
Using Frost Demon Gu continuously generated intense cold within the Gu Master’s body. Over time, this cold could damage the joints, muscles, and bones, gradually weakening the body and even causing severe loss of movement. Because of this, Frost Demon Gu was normally paired with Gu that strengthened the body or produced heat.
Bai Ning Bing, however, possessed the Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique. His body had an extraordinary natural affinity with Ice and Snow Path, allowing him to endure cold far better than an ordinary Gu Master.
“Hahaha! Good Gu, truly a good Gu!”
Bai Ning Bing laughed and poured even more primeval essence into Frost Demon Gu. The transformation rapidly spread from his arm throughout his entire body. His flesh gradually became translucent blue ice until he had completely transformed into a Frost Demon. His appearance became eerie and inhuman, while the pale bones inside his frozen body remained faintly visible.
Lin Feng watched him experiment for a moment before warning, “Don’t become careless just because your physique can endure the cold. Frost Demon Gu still damages the user’s body. It’s best to pair it with something that strengthens the body or counteracts the accumulated cold.”
He thought briefly before continuing, “Ice Muscle Gu would work, or you could use something like Heat Flow Gu or Furnace Gu to continuously produce heat.”
“Ice Muscle Gu?”
Bai Ning Bing’s eyes flickered. When he had reached Rank Two and entered the clan treasury to examine the Gu stored there, he remembered seeing a Rank Three Ice Muscle Gu among the Bai Clan’s collection.
