(Akane's PoV, next day, after they woke up)

The cold morning light filtered through the horizontal blinds of my apartment, casting clean, geometric bars of gold across the white kitchen tiles.

The heavy, volatile panic that had threatened to freeze my system the night before—the toxic residue of Kenji's voice on the threshold—had completely evaporated during the hours of dreamless sleep, thanks to Shin.

That morning, the entire apartment smelled cleanly of toasted sesame, hot dashi, and the lingering, grounding aroma of industrial sandalwood.

We were moving through the narrow space between the counter and the table in a near-flawless, silent synchronization. It was something completely new, in some ways.

I used to do everything alone, even for Shin, but today, his physical presence moved in perfect step with mine.

There were no collisions, no awkward hesitation, and no words required.

When I reached for the ceramic bowls, his hand was already there, presenting the steaming ladle of miso soup. As he moved to pour the hot green tea, my boots automatically shifted to grant his legs uninhibited access to the table.

We were cooperating like a genuine, married couple functioning in total harmony.

I reached out my left hand to slide a plate of pickled tsukemono toward the center of the table, but the moment I shifted my weight onto my right heel, a sharp, sudden dullness shot straight through the core of my muscles.

My legs gave a brief, violent tremble under the fabric of my oversized sweater.

My knees practically buckled, with my fingers gripping the edge of the laminate counter with a white-knuckled pressure to prevent my posture from collapsing.

Shin's eyes snapped up instantly from his bowl, his focus locked dead onto the slight, microscopic twitch in my thighs.

Then, he set his chopsticks down with a quiet click, his eyebrows knitting together in immediate concern.

"Is everything entirely okay, Akane?" he asked, his voice a low, gravelly morning rumble that sent a soft shiver down my neck.

In that moment, I locked my jaw, slowly forcing my muscles to stabilize their baseline parameters before I turned my head to look down at his face.

A slow, razor-sharp smirk slowly reclaimed my lips, though a genuine, warm flush of pink painted my cheeks.

"Well," I murmured, my voice dropping into its signature, low, and beautifully raspy purr. "After executing approximately three consecutive rounds of high-intensity physical engagement on that mattress last night, Ishikawa, it is an absolute miracle that I am still capable of walking across this kitchen." I chuckled. "I guess I should change your name from 'ghost boy' to 'beast boy'."

Shin stared at me for one wide, unblinking second as my words registered in his brain, before a loud, clear, and thoroughly beautiful laugh erupted from his chest; a weightless sound that illuminated the small kitchen, with his shoulders shaking with an amusement that made my heart execute a heavy, proud thud against my ribs.

"Okay then, I'm going to buy a wheelchair for you, then," he teased, his dark eyes crinkling at the corners.

"Shut your mouth and finish your rice before I bite your neck, dumbhead," I grumbled. However, the smile on my dark lips was entirely unvarnished as I dropped onto the chair beside him, my bare leg automatically finding his beneath the table, hooking over his ankle to re-establish the physical contact.

Once the dishes were cleared, the administrative problem of the morning shift presented itself.

Shin didn't have his school uniform, and he couldn't physically walk through the academy gates looking like a vagrant. He didn't have my privilege of dressing like I wanted.

"Wait here," I commanded, my boots padding quickly toward the deep storage closet at the back of the hallway.

I reached up into the highest shelf, my fingers locating a heavy, zip-locked plastic garment bag that hadn't been unsealed in twelve months.

Then, I tore the plastic open with a sharp, hostile jerk, pulling out a pristine, completely unworn male academy uniform—the navy blazer and matching tailored trousers still holding the stiff creases of the manufacturer.

Our father had purchased three identical sets the previous year, fully expecting his golden varsity heir to maintain an immaculate rotation inside our house.

But Kenji had outgrown the chest measurements within six months, and he always hated the school uniform; that's why he left it here.

Then, I walked back into the bedroom, tossing the navy fabric straight onto the mattress where Shin was waiting.

"Slide into this," I stated flatly, my golden eyes scanning his lean, muscular frame. "The shoulder measurements should line up perfectly with your current data. And more than anything... it has absolutely zero attachment to his shadow now. Consider it a tactical requisition."

Shin inspected the uniform, and a quiet look of understanding crossed his features as he noticed the absence of any family crest or initials.

Then, he didn't offer a single word of hesitation; he slid his legs into the trousers and pulled the crisp navy blazer over his shoulders.

The fit was flawless. The dark fabric accentuated the sharp, confident line of his shoulders, making him look entirely different than the broken, hollow ghost who used to slink through the school corridors with his head bowed.

He looked like a man who belonged entirely in my arms.

And then, after some 'cuddling', we officially exited apartment 402 twenty minutes later, the door clicking shut behind us as I twisted the deadbolt into place with a sharp, definitive snap.

The walk down the sloping suburban pavement was completely altered from the previous days.

The winder landscape, which had always looked like a gray, sterile prison to my isolated processing grid, seemed remarkably, beautifully serene under the bright morning sun.

The air was crisp and cold, clearing the remaining drowsiness from my temples, while the sound of 'nature' around us was music to my ears.

We walked slowly, our steps perfectly synchronized.

My left hand was locked securely, defensively through his right fingers, our palms pressed tightly together in the open daylight.

I didn't care even about the sparse crowds of junior students beginning to trickle down the avenue or about the analytical stares of the neighbors. Every millimeter of my posture radiated absolute, unyielding arrogance.

'He is mine.'

Shin and I kept walking and walking, my hand occasionally squeezing his, probably in search of some reassurance.

But the moment our boots cleared the iron perimeter fence of the academy gates, the peaceful isolation of our walk was instantly broken.

Standing right beside the main brick pillar, shifting his weight frantically from one foot to the other as he checked his digital watch for the fifth time, was Daiki Sakurai.

He was looking around the courtyard like a paranoid look-out, his uniform blazer slightly rumpled, his face pulled into a tight knot of sheer logistical panic.

The exact microsecond his eyes cut through the incoming crowd of students and landed squarely on our joined hands, his jaw dropped open so wide it looked almost comical.

"Shin! Finally! Dammit, man!" Daiki yelled at the top of his lungs, completely ignoring the social rules of the courtyard as he launched his body forward, sprinting across the gravel toward our coordinates.

He came to a sliding halt mere inches away from Shin's shoulder, his chest heaving with an intense relief. "I seriously thought you were dead! I thought you were going to leave me to face Takaneda-sensei's wrath alone at the 8:00 AM briefing! Do you have any idea how much pressure—"

Before the text of his frantic rant could complete its trajectory, his eyes naturally drifted sideways, locking dead onto my face.

I brought our momentum to a halt, my boots pinning themselves to the gravel path.

I didn't say a single word. I tilted my chin down, allowing the dark, jagged fringe of my black hair to part just enough to expose the absolute, sub-zero hostility burning deep within my eyes.

In that moment, I gave him a deep and aggressive glare, and then curled my lips into a cold, razor-sharp smirk that didn't hold a single grain of human warmth.

Daiki's voice cut off mid-syllable, a violent, visible shudder running straight down his spine as a massive shriek of pure terror caught inside his throat.

He took a sudden, frantic step backward, his hands flying up in a defensive, peaceful gesture as his face turned a pale, bloodless shade of white under the morning light.

"Is there something specific you want to say to me, scum?" I asked, my voice dropping into a low, terrifyingly quiet, and gravelly rasp that cut through the noise of the courtyard like a chainsaw.

"E-Eh? No! Nothing at all, Takanashi-san! I swear!" Daiki squeaked, his voice cracking into an absurdly high pitch as he stared at the heavy metal industrial piercings lining my ear cartilage.

My smirk widened, while my fingers executed an intentionally tight, possessive squeeze against Shin's hand right in front of his eyes, making the white of my knuckles visible.

I was explicitly referencing the venomous script he had babbled into the speakerphone yesterday. The little promise that he would keep my boyfriend's interactions with Sora Fujimoto a secret from me.

"Excellent," I purred, the syllables dripping with a dangerous, lethal promise. "Then I highly suggest that you memorize this baseline instruction, Sakurai: keep your eyes completely locked to this special boy, and don't you dare leave him for an instant. Because you need to realize... he and I are an official, exclusive couple now. He belongs entirely to me. So, I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself for what you suggested yesterday."

In that moment, Daiki's large eyes widened to the point of absurdity, his gaze darting frantically between my territorial posture and the calm, thoroughly amused expression on Shin's face.

His brain was visibly experiencing a massive cognitive collapse trying to process the data that the school's most dangerous lone wolf had just claimed the class representative.

"Ah. O-Okay. Fully understood, Takanashi-san," Daiki stammered, his chin nodding automatically like a broken mechanical toy.

Shin let out a quiet, soft chuckle beside my shoulder, his fingers gently rolling against the back of my hand to settle my static-charged nerves.

He looked down at my face, his dark eyes filled with that deep, unconditional clarity that always managed to dissolve my armor in a fraction of a second.

"Alright, Akane," he murmured, his voice a steady, comforting anchor that completely cleared the hostility from the air. "I guess that I'll have to go with him and the council before the morning bell rings. I'll see you on the roof exactly when the lunch break begins, okay?"

I bit the inside of my lip, my eyes flashing with a sudden, reluctant frustration.

I didn't want to let go of his hand, and I didn't want to grant the institutions of this building a single millimeter of access to his frame after what we had built in the dark of my room.

My fingers clung to his skin for three long, stubborn seconds before I finally, reluctantly allowed my grip to loosen.

"Tch... fine," I grumbled through a sharp pout, crossing my arms tightly over my chest as I shifted my weight onto my aching thighs. "But if that little student council idol tries to charm you with another smiling alliance today, Ishikawa, I am explicitly going to maul the entire executive office. Watch out."

"Don't worry about it, boss," Shin smiled, a genuine, beautiful grin splitting his face before he turned his torso toward the main building.

He then reached out his arm, catching a completely paralyzed Daiki by the collar of his blazer, and began dragging the frantic class representative down the gravel path toward the administrative wing, leaving me standing alone near the iron gate line.

'He looks so... different...' I said, watching his figure disappear into the building. 'I miss him already, fuck this.'

I stood there in the shifting grid of morning light, watching his navy silhouette move confidently through the crowd of students, entirely unbothered by the whispers rippling through the courtyard.

I let out a long, slow breath through my nose, my fingers lightly touching the Lilibat keychain dangling from my bag.

The temporary separation was an annoyance, but as I turned my boots toward the entrance of the senior corridor, a deep, unyielding warmth settled permanently behind my ribs.

The ghost was gone, the lone wolf had found her home, and there wasn't a single entity in this high school strong enough to alter the architecture of us.

I started walking to my class when I felt someone grab the sleeve of my sweater.

I immediately turned back, ready to kill whoever it was, until I saw the person standing right in front of me.

Of course, it was Kurone, the school's queen, who now looked more like the school's ghost.

She was wearing all her perfect makeup, and her face looked immaculate. But makeup couldn't entirely cover the dark eye bags. Moreover, her body was trembling, and she looked like she was on the verge of a mental breakdown.

She looked like a complete mess.

"A-Akane... can I talk to you, please? I really need to talk. I need help," She whispered, her voice carrying the same tone of someone who had witnessed something horrific.

I couldn't ignore her; we were still 'best friends, and I still had to act as if I cared for her. Moreover, she's the reason why Shin had never left Japan, so I owe her a favor in some ways.

"Kuro? What's wrong?" I asked, helping her to maintain her balance.

"It's...*sob* it's about Kenji. Please... I need to talk to you," She said, clinging to me like a lifeline.

Ah, right. Yesterday, she was walking with Kenji.

"It's okay, Kuro. Let's go talk somewhere more private," I said, gently helping her.

She nodded and then followed me to the school's restrooms.

'I wonder what she wants to say...' I thought.

Yesterday, she looked broken. Today, she looked terrified.

Whatever Kenji had done was enough to shatter the last pieces holding her together.
