Return of the Mythic Bloodline

Chapter 619: Bai Chengsheng vs Maximilian

"Im-impossible!" Lin Feng exclaimed, shock palpable on his face. "I clearly pierced my sword through your abdomen. How are you still alive?" he demanded.

"As if I would die from a wound like that," Maximilian chuckled, taking another sip from his tea.

Lin Feng took a step back in fear, a bead of sweat trickling down his face.

"So you actually survived..." Bai Chengsheng murmured, stepping forward.

The debris on the ground trembled and hovered into the air. Several cracks spread across the land.

The next moment, the debris slammed into the ground, crushing into dust as immense pressure descended.

It immediately brought Lin Feng to his knees, even though he wasn’t the target of the pressure.

Wukong, standing behind Maximilian, also clenched his jaw as he struggled to stand straight.

"What gave you the confidence to show your face again?" Bai Chengsheng demanded, taking another step forward that unleashed even more pressure. The space around him twisted, and wild winds flowed outward. "Even the Divine Artifact that you destroyed isn’t enough to kill me."

Maximilian was still seated on his chair, completely unaffected. He put the tea cup back into his storage pouch and drew Vajra.

"Oh, you mean this?"

Bai Chengsheng’s emerald eyes widened.

"My sword," he exclaimed, immediately rushing forward.

From the other side, Wukong appeared between Maximilian and Bai Chengsheng.

"I will be the one fighting you!" he declared, throwing his fist forward.

"Get lost." Bai Chengsheng swayed his arm, sending Wukong flying backward.

He was about to reach Maximilian for an instant kill, but he only grabbed empty air. Maximilian had already vanished from the chair.

"You are no match for a Demi-God yet," Maximilian said, placing his palm on Wukong’s back and stopping him mid-air.

"But I really want to fight," Wukong replied with a frown. "You have no idea how bored I was for the past few days when you were gone."

"Then you can fight him." Maximilian pointed at Lin Feng, causing the latter to immediately draw his sword.

"Tch, he is too weak," Wukong retorted, clearly unwilling to fight a True Sage.

While the two were casually selecting their opponents, Bai Chengsheng had his eyes fixed on Maximilian.

’His speed was far greater than that of a True Sage, and he didn’t even flinch under my Divine Pressure,’ he muttered to himself. ’Does he possess more treasures besides the sword?’

Now Bai Chengsheng was very excited. Although Maximilian had moved really fast, his speed was still not something untraceable by a Demi-God.

He drew his double-edged sword from his storage pouch. A wild blue energy bled into the sword, reaching almost twice the blade’s size.

"Sword Aura?" Lin Feng exclaimed, his eyes widening. This was the first time he had seen a cultivator wielding Sword Aura. "Only the most talented warriors possess the ability to wield Sword Aura. It increases the wielder’s strikes a hundred times in ferocity. As for a Demi-God, the effect should be even greater."

Bai Chengsheng’s lips rose into a satisfied smile at Lin Feng’s praise.

He immediately bolted towards the duo ahead. Upon reaching them, he swung the blade in a wide horizontal arc, intending to end this in one clean strike.

Maximilian grabbed Wukong by the back of his collar and threw him towards Lin Feng.

Crash!

Sparks erupted and the ground split open as Bai Chengsheng’s sword clashed against Maximilian’s, sending him flying backward.

Before his body could hit the ground, Bai Chengsheng was already above him, bringing his blade down in a vertical arc.

Several swords emerged from the one in Maximilian’s hand, forming a circular protective disc.

When Bai Chengsheng’s strike connected with the disc, Maximilian was thrown to the ground.

He landed on his feet, creating a small crater beneath him.

Bai Chengsheng soon followed, launching another strike.

Maximilian released several swords towards the incoming opponent.

"Hmph." Bai Chengsheng retorted, scattering them all away with the rapid swing of his blade.

"You are nothing without your Divine Artifact," Bai Chengsheng muttered, landing on the ground before Maximilian. "The sword is a shame in your hands."

He launched a barrage of attacks at Maximilian, striking him from every direction. Each strike sent several swords flying outward as Maximilian used them for defence.

Bai Chengsheng continued striking until only one sword remained.

"Die!" he shouted, swinging his blade in a diagonal slash.

Tang!!

The battlefield turned white from the star-like spark that erupted from the collision. A straight crack spread across the ground beneath Maximilian and Bai Chengsheng.

As the glow from the spark vanished, their figures became clear. The sword in Maximilian’s hand had turned even darker, limbs of dark flames dancing along its edge.

"Hahahaha," Lin Feng broke into laughter. He was standing far from where the duo were clashing, and Wukong had decided not to fight him at all. Watching Maximilian’s fight was more interesting.

"What a pathetic Sword Aura," Lin Feng mocked. "It’s barely even covering the sword, while War Marshal Bai’s Sword Aura is double the length of the blade."

In contrast, Bai Chengsheng was completely bewildered, his eyes widened and lips parted.

"Impossible," he muttered, unable to believe what he was watching. "H-how can you use the perfect form of Sword Aura? It has to be a trick."

Maximilian merely smiled at his claims. "Check it yourself."

He grabbed the sword with both hands and swung it down.

"Sword Aura: Lightning Slash!"

A wide arc of concentrated lightning was released from the motion of the blade.

Bai Chengsheng released a gasp as the memory of the Lóng that had severed his hand replayed in his mind. It had also used this same cursed lightning.

He immediately grabbed his sword with both hands and released his own arc of aura, one laced with his Divine Soulforce. The moment the two attacks struck, a screeching sound echoed that instantly caused Lin Feng’s ears to bleed.

The space around the attacks twisted, and a wide crater spread across the ground, obliterating the grey rocks.

"You..." Bai Chengsheng muttered, his emerald eyes narrowing at Maximilian as the attack vanished. "Was it you who released that dragon-shaped lightning at me during the war?" he demanded.

"Guess?" Maximilian replied as a small dragon came out from his robe, coiling around his arm. It was absurdly similar to the one that had attacked Bai Chengsheng. "I cultivate them in my free time. The one that attacked you was cultivated for twenty years."

Veins bulged across Bai Chengsheng’s temples, his jaw tightening.

"Because of you, I not only lost the chance of killing Vyomendra but also lost my arm," he muttered, his Soulforce rising dramatically. "I will make you pay for your crimes!"

He slammed the sword into the ground and formed a series of hand signs.

"Brain Eating Gu, activate!"

Maximilian’s brows twitched. The sword fell from his hand as his hand flew to his face, where he pressed both his temples.

His expression twisted in pain, his mouth opening wide.

"AAAAAAAA!" he screamed, his voice echoing through the battlefield. "It hurts! It hurts!"

"Hahahaha, suffer, bastard, suffer!" Bai Chengsheng laughed, spreading his arms. "The Brain Eating Gu will slowly eat your brain, giving you the most painful death possible. I could have just killed you with a swing of my blade. But you deserve to suffe—"

His words stopped mid-sentence as Maximilian suddenly stopped screaming. His lips curled into a mocking smirk as he said, "Just joking."
