Repairing A Broken Home With My Patriarch System
Chapter 89: Interrogation
Ethan drove them to the shop with his bike, and they all got down from the motorcycle.
Looking around, Evelyn was amazed. There was nothing that resembled an attacked shop in the area. Everything felt brand new.
"Wow... that’s an extensive repair. I’m amazed."
Ethan smiled mysteriously and opened the door. They stepped inside the shop already stacked with fruits, further surprising Evelyn.
"With these, I don’t really need to worry about stocking up the shop this week at all. Wow."
Ethan nodded, holding Nora’s hand as he looked around. "Well, that was something Cassandra planned. So you should thank her properly when she resumed work tomorrow."
Evelyn’s eyes widened. "Cassandra? Oh, that’s really... sigh. I knew she was a good person but I’m still surprised."
Helping Nora sit in her familiar couch, he rolled up his sleeves and said, "Time to get to work. Let’s begin immediately."
"Yes!"
Together, they began arranging the fruits on the display board, with Ethan supervising the arrangement. He didn’t really need to, though. Evelyn had learned well for him, so she knew what to do and what not to do.
In less than twenty minutes, they had finished setting up the shop. Evelyn sat behind the counter, accompanied by Ethan who decided to become her assistant for the day.
Soon, a familiar customer approached.
The middle-aged woman glanced at Ethan, then turned to Evelyn. "Hello, Evelyn. I saw that your shop got hot by those thugs. I hope everything is alright."
Evelyn smiled politely. "Yeah, it was just a small nuisance, but we already solved it. Thank you."
The woman sighed in relief. "That’s good. You’re such a pure soul. You shouldn’t even know things like this. Anyway, give me one small basket of apples. I need to restock my fridge."
Evelyn nodded and immediately got to work. After packaging the apples, she handed it to the woman who accepted the plastic bag and paid immediately.
"See you later, Evelyn!"
Watching her go, Ethan mused. "You’ve gotten close with the people here too. That’s nice."
She turned to him, her lips curving in a grin.
"That’s the key to selling, Ethan! You have to charm your customers, and they’ll buy from you without even thinking!"
He blinked, then slowly nodded. "I see... I get that."
That was a new perspective different from his own, and it felt fresh.
Soon, another customer approached, followed by another.
They all asked about the attack on the shop, with some even reassuring her that of such a thing happened again, they’d help her take the case to the court of necessary.
Evelyn happily replied to their helping hands, telling them she wouldn’t hesitate to call them if needed.
Before long, it was already past noon. Ethan had barely managed to assist Evelyn, as she seemed eager to do things by herself.
"What would you like to have for dinner?" He asked, turning to face her.
Evelyn paused for a moment, then narrowed her eyes as she spotted someone coming towards her shop.
"Oh, and here she comes..."
Ethan turned to look, his eyes lighting up with mischief.
"Ah, Cassie..."
The black-haired lady approached them with a bright smile on her face.
"Eve! Oh, Ethan too..."
Her enthusiasm dimmed slightly as she became slightly reserved. However, she still smiled at him.
Ethan smiled back, but Evelyn didn’t.
"Cassie, we need to talk."
Hearing Evelyn’s cold voice, Cassie flinched in surprise. "What? Did I do something bad?"
Evelyn didn’t answer. She simply left the shop and met her outside.
"Why did you give Chris my location?" She asked, her expression sharp as she folded her arms.
Cassie’s smile faltered. "W-what do you mean? Isn’t he your friend? Why would you hide from him?"
Evelyn’s eyes narrowed. "You know things are strained between me and Chris. Why would you go and tell him where I stay? Can’t I simply have some time alone?"
Cassie’s brows furrowed. "What do you mean? Regardless of what happened, Chris is still your friend, and he cared about you deeply. You shouldn’t treat your friends like this."
Evelyn scowled, offended. "Treat my friends like what? I’m only maintaining some space until the tension cools. Do you think I’d want Chris lingering around me while he’s still carrying thoughts of marrying me? Hell no, Cassie. I don’t do that."
Cassie’s lips twitched. "Honestly, I don’t know what to say. I’m sorry I told him where you are, okay? If that’s fine, then let’s forget about this. I still don’t understand why you’re simping for that scum anyway."
"Cassie." Evelyn cut in coldly. "What did you just call Ethan?"
The black-haired lady stared at her friend in surprise, as she had rarely seen her get this angry.
Rolling her eyes, she said, "Look, I have my reasons for calling him what I did, and you don’t want to believe me. Anyway, just forget about it. Let’s go catch up. It’s been a few days since I—"
"No." Evelyn cut her off. "If you’re going to retain this attitude towards my husband, then we shouldn’t be talking. I don’t care if you have your reasons, but you should learn to be polite, at least."
Cassie stared at her in disbelief, feeling a little exasperated. "You... what the hell is wrong with you? Why are you acting like this today?"
Blinking, Evelyn smiled. "That’s right. Thanks for reminding me. I have a few questions for you, and I need an honest answer."
Placing her hands on her hips, she asked, "That day you asked me to come get you at the bar, were you really drunk? Also, why did you go to such a shady bar? That’s so unlike you."
Cassie frowned, her voice turning defensive. "What did you mean? Are you supposed to be asking me that? Why would I lie to you about being drunk? And the bar... I just chose a random place. What’s up with that?"
Evelyn’s eyes narrowed. "You know I’m not stupid, right? Good, let’s answer these questions one after the other."
"If you were really drunk, enough that you passed out, how did you know Ethan carried you?"
Cassie froze, and for the first time, she didn’t have an immediate answer.
