Repairing A Broken Home With My Patriarch System
Chapter 66: Back With Bike
Ethan hummed as he went back upstairs. Picking up the rest of the pancakes, he ate them by himself before putting the plate away.
He didn’t go back to the shop immediately, as he was still waiting for his reward for the task completed.
It was a Honda Gold Wing Tour, a motorcycle designed to carry more than just the rider. After claiming the reward, he had received a message saying it would be delivered to him in the next thirty minutes.
Ethan hadn’t used one in either of his lives. However, he wasn’t a newbie to riding bikes.
After all, he used to go around with Cynthia in his past life. A melancholic expression crossed his face at the thought of that woman before his thoughts shifted to Evelyn.
’Their voices are almost the same, but Cynthia has a sharper demeanor while Evelyn is gentle...’
Smiling faintly, he reminisced the beautiful moments of his old life until his phone buzzed. Checking, he realized the bike had arrived.
Going downstairs, he went to the gates and opened it.
A delivery guy stood beside the white motorcycle, holding a delivery form.
"Mr. Hale?"
Ethan nodded, his gaze fixed on the bike. The delivery guy approached him and passed the form to him.
"Sign here, sir."
Ethan read the clauses stating that the delivery had been made, then signed it. After all, he wasn’t a fool who’d just sign any document and get scammed.
The delivery guy handed him the keys and an extra helmet for kids.
Seeing this, Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Who made this order?"
The young man shrugged. "I don’t know. I was just called to deliver it so..."
Ethan nodded, then waved him off. He locked the gates, put on one of the helmets and kept the others attached to the bike. Then, he got onto the bike and drove off to Evelyn’s shop.
The ride didn’t take long, so he arrived relatively quickly. When Evelyn saw him parking in front of her shop, her first thought was that he was another customer or one of Vincent’s men.
However, after he took off the helmet, she was surprised to realize it was Ethan.
"You... you went to buy a bike?" She asked, staring at him in disbelief.
Placing the helmet on the bike before walking towards her, Ethan smiled. "Not really, but you could say that."
Catching their words, Nora also came out of the shop to take a look. Her eyes narrowed suspiciously.
’Why would he buy a bike? I thought he didn’t...’
"Ethan, I thought you didn’t like motorcycles. Did something change?" Evelyn asked, still staring at him in surprise.
Ethan blinked, then realized it. ’The original owner of this body despised bikes, huh? What a mess...’
Shaking his head, he answered Evelyn. "No, not really. I just thought you might like this one. After all, you always wanted us to ride one together, right?"
Evelyn blinked. "I know that. But you..."
"It’s fine, it’s fine." He waved casually. "Looks like someone is coming. You should attend to them."
He slipped into the shop with Nora trailing behind him. Cassandra stared at the bike for a moment, then shouted to Ethan.
"It looks cool, by the way!"
"Haha, thanks!" Ethan replied before settling into the chair with a satisfied sigh.
Nora sat opposite him, occasionally glancing at him.
’Even though he became good again, he never sacrificed his dislikes for Mom. Besides, he hated bikes because he almost had an accident with one while he was in school. So would he really buy one just because Mom wanted it?’
Lowering her head, she gritted her teeth in frustration. ’So many things don’t make sense anymore. I know there are supposed to be differences, but it’s very confusing at this point. It’s... it’s almost like he’s a different person. What could have changed...?’
"Nora?"
Hearing her name being called, she looked up and found Ethan staring at her in concern.
Something twisted in her gut, and she felt uneasy with herself. Does she really have the right to hate someone like this...?
"Yes, Dad?"
Staring into her troubled eyes, Ethan asked, "You don’t like the motorcycle?"
She blinked, then shook her head. "No, it’s not that."
"Oh? Then what are you thinking about?" He asked.
"Um..." She hesitated, then lied. "I was just thinking about school. It’s a foreign place, so..."
Smiling, Ethan waved his hand and reassured her. "Don’t worry about it, alright? School is just a place to learn, not a battlefield. And I’m sure you’ll make some new friends over there. Sigh, you really need people of your age to play with."
Nora scoffed inwardly. ’My age? You think I’d enjoy playing with kids below twelve years old? Tsk.’
Not noticing her thoughts, Ethan continued to reassure her. "You’ll be fine! Trust me."
She nodded, though her expression remained gloomy.
Seeing this, Ethan sighed and passed his phone to her. "Alright. You can have this and watch videos or play any game you want for an hour."
Nora’s eyes lit up, and she quickly collected the phone, eagerly opening his YouTube.
Ethan had been tempted to buy her a phone. However, he wasn’t brought up that way and knew that phones were a bad influence on kids. Even though parental control was now possible, he didn’t trust it.
After all, the younger generation was always smarter than the older one.
He didn’t underestimate his daughter simply because she was a kid.
Instead, it was better to have her use his phone, and for a limited period of time.
Seeing her get engrossed so quickly, he stood up and left her alone in the shop.
Approaching Evelyn, he quietly whispered in her ear, "Do you want to go on a ride?"
She flinched, turning around to look at him. Shaking her head, she said, "Right now? What about Nora?"
Glancing at the girl who was busy with his phone, Ethan shook his head. "She’s occupied. It won’t take long, alright?"
Pursing her lips, she thought about it, then nodded. "Alright."
Turning to Cassandra with an apologetic expression, she said, "Can you handle the shop for a while? I’ll be back soon."
Cassandra smiled reassuringly. "Don’t worry, boss! I’ll handle it perfectly!"
Evelyn smiled at her, then turned to Nora. "Sweetie, your dad and I are going out. We’ll be back soon, okay?"
Nora nodded, merely sparing them a glance. She already predicted that this would happen anyway.
Ethan put on his helmet and had Evelyn sit behind him while she put on her helmet too.
Then, he started the engine.
