Remarriage Failed Again Today
Chapter 678: I’m the One Pursuing This, Understand?
Chapter 678: Chapter 678: I’m the One Pursuing This, Understand?
’When I was holding that vase just now, I think my foot just slipped. I don’t know the specifics, but it definitely wasn’t Annabelle Linton who tripped me. I’m sure of that much.’
’They’re actually going to check the security footage now?’
’I wasn’t thinking things through just now, that’s why I said all that. If they check the footage, my story will fall apart on its own because Annabelle Linton never tripped me at all!’
’Ah, what do I do, what do I do!’
’If they find out, I’m absolutely finished!’
Mrs. Yates’s eyes darted, a cunning glint flashing within them. She put on a sanctimonious front and looked at Annabelle Linton, saying, "In any case, your goal is charity. The vase is broken now, so there’s no point in pursuing this. One must act with the dignity befitting an elder.
Since you say you didn’t trip me, I’ll take your word for it. It doesn’t matter anymore. I don’t want any compensation from you, and I don’t want you to buy anything in my name. Just pay for the vase you bid on, and that’ll be the end of it. I’ll be leaving now."
With that, she made a show of being deeply grieved and turned to leave.
"And where do you think you’re going?"
Leona Grant spoke coolly from behind her, letting out a sneer. "Weren’t you so self-righteous just a moment ago? What’s the matter? Lost your nerve?"
Mrs. Yates froze, unable to utter a single word.
Leona Grant watched her, his expression devoid of any human emotion. His thin lips parted as he said indifferently, "This isn’t about you deciding to let it go. This is about us insisting on pursuing the matter. Understand?"
The color drained from Mrs. Yates’s face. She couldn’t say a word.
The event organizer walked up to Leona Grant, bowed his head respectfully, and said, "Mr. Grant, what are your instructions?"
A cold light shone in Leona Grant’s eyes. He glanced at Mrs. Yates with a sneer and said, "Investigate. Pull up the security footage for me. I want to see just whose fault this was."
Mrs. Yates whipped around to face Leona Grant, the panic in her eyes plain to see.
In truth, there was no need to even wonder. The footage wouldn’t show anything; Annabelle Linton would be cleared of any wrongdoing.
The moment the incident occurred, the backstage staff had already retrieved and edited the security footage.
In other words, even if it had been Annabelle Linton’s fault, the organizers would have already taken care of it.
Who did they think they were, trying to swindle money out of Leona Grant?
If the footage had shown Annabelle Linton at fault today, Leona Grant would have surely taken his anger out on them later.
Why?
Because his precious wife had been wronged at their event!
Honestly, Mrs. Yates was a complete idiot, trying to pit an egg against a stone. Had she gone mad?
The choice between the minor Yates Family and the powerful Grant Family wasn’t a difficult one, was it?
Most importantly, the organizers wouldn’t lose out either way. Someone would compensate them for the vase regardless. They were part of a national organization with government backing; dealing with a minor family like the Yateses would be a trivial matter for them.
Having been in the business world for many years, Mr. Yates could tell from the situation that they had already lost.
’We’re definitely paying that three hundred million. We can’t let this go on any longer!’
Gritting his teeth, just as Arthur Ainsworth had done to Claire Chapman, he swung his hand and slapped Mrs. Yates across the face, knocking her to the ground!
"You damn bitch, will you shut your mouth?! You’re a complete disgrace!"
After hitting her, he turned to Leona Grant with a fawning smile and said, "Young Master Grant, you know her temper. That’s just how she is. You saw how she went after Mrs. Grant just now, and I’ve already paid her back for it. We’ll pay the three hundred million, the full price. For any offense we’ve caused, I hope you can find it in your heart to be magnanimous, for your mother’s sake."
He was no longer calling him Leona or referring to her as Miss Linton. He had clearly, subconsciously, admitted defeat and was now trying to placate them.
