Chapter 1579 - 45: Blood Hunter
Chapter 1579: Chapter 45: Blood Hunter
Su Xiao walked into the Holy Healing Church Headquarters. Compared to the last time he was here, it was noticeably busier. Several witch hunters were standing in front of the bulletin board on the left side of the hall, discussing something. Su Xiao vaguely heard terms like Third Stage Witch and cooperation.
Most of the witch hunters in the Holy Healing Church can only hunt First Tier or Second Phase witches alone. To deal with a Third Tier Witch, at least five to seven White Hunters need to cooperate, or a Black Hunter needs to go. As for Fourth Stage Witches, Red Hunters’ cooperation is required. To deal with Fifth Stage Witches, the Holy Healing Church would need to convene a Holy Council to gather a large number of witch hunters for the hunt, and success would still be uncertain.
White Hunters are the basic combat effectiveness of the Holy Healing Church. Most are responsible for gathering intelligence and dealing with the First and Second Phase witches. Black Hunters are the backbone, not too few in number, and each is experienced. Red Hunters are relatively rare; most of them roam the Dark Raven Continent and quickly head to wherever difficult witches appear.
The strongest within the Holy Healing Church are actually not the Red Hunters, but a few of the twelve Senators. They can face a Fifth Stage Witch alone without fear.
The few witch hunters in front of the bulletin board obviously belonged to the White Hunters. Fortunately, there is no power struggle within the Holy Healing Church, and there is no subordinate relationship between the three levels of hunters. They are all managed by the Holy Council.
Su Xiao walked to the showroom on the right side of the hall, where Shirley was explaining something with a smile to a middle-aged woman.
"She is really a witch, I swear, just yesterday, she..."
The middle-aged woman became more and more agitated as she spoke. Although Shirley inside the window was helpless, she maintained her smile.
"Madam, we will handle your feedback cautiously. As for whether your neighbor Ms. Sinclair is a witch, we will certainly investigate seriously."
"But..."
The middle-aged woman wanted to say more. She appeared to be in her forties, but her actual age was only in her early thirties. The average civilian in this world looks older, given the backward medical standards.
"Rest assured, madam, we will handle this matter well."
"Well... alright then."
The middle-aged woman was somewhat unwilling to leave, as she couldn’t label the woman seducing her husband as a witch.
After the middle-aged woman left, Shirley collapsed powerlessly onto the wooden cabinet in front of her, her smooth hair spread out.
"Give me a break~. How could Sinclair the tailor possibly be a witch?"
Shirley was very helpless. Although the title of commissioner at the Holy Healing Church Headquarters sounds nice, it mostly involves front desk work, greeting some edgy teenagers or resentful women. Actually useful information is one in a thousand.
Knock, knock, knock,
The knocking sound made Shirley sit up and tidy the long hair spread across her chest.
"Hello... eh, it’s really you, Mister Cuchulainn Bai Ye, you’re back. Must have been a hard journey."
Shirley smiled at Su Xiao. Facing a witch hunter, her smile was no longer official, considering he was one of their own.
"I have some bounty orders to process."
Su Xiao took out a large roll of bounty orders from his arms. Seeing this roll of bounty orders, Shirley’s mouth twitched. She recalled the scene when Su Xiao accepted all commissions.
Only a few days had passed back and forth. Shirley remembered Senator Carmen’s evaluation of Su Xiao as a monster, which made her somewhat expectant of how many commissions Su Xiao could complete.
Su Xiao pulled out more than a dozen bounty orders from the large roll. Seeing this quantity, Shirley raised an eyebrow.
"Other than these, the bounties for the rest of the orders can be settled. These are Avatar Fragments."
Su Xiao placed two large cloth bags into the window, one filled with witch Avatar Fragments, the other containing blood samples.
Looking at this large roll of bounty orders, Shirley’s mouth twitched. She had already forgotten how many witch hunters she had received. Others would complete a few bounty orders, but this was a whole roll. It seemed... the calculation method for bounty orders had never been by roll before.
"Uh~"
Although Shirley was shocked by the number of witches Su Xiao had hunted, she didn’t show it. This was the basic quality of the Headquarters commissioner. When she opened the cloth bag, various colored Avatar Fragments scattered on the wooden table.
Various elements drifted in the air. Some of the more dimly colored Avatar Fragments were formed by First and Second Phase witches, those carrying different elemental attributes were Third Stage Witch Avatar Fragments, and the Fourth Stage ones were like individual gemstones. As for the fragment emitting a golden glow, it was Moris’ relic.
Shirley picked up the Avatar Fragment filled with the Light Element. Just holding this, she could feel how powerful the owner had been in life. The sense of sharpness, rapid, and attempt to decompose everything made it difficult to ignore.
"This... is hers?"
Shirley drew out a bounty order and placed the golden Avatar Fragment on it.
"Yes, that’s right."
Outside the window, Su Xiao appeared somewhat sleepy. He was already injured, and with constant travel, some drowsiness was inevitable. After handling these bounty orders, he would find a clean inn for a good sleep and then have a hot meal.
"Mr. Bai Ye, you went to Westport?"
"There are more witches there."
"Oh~"
Shirley packed all the Avatar Fragments into the cloth bag and gestured for Su Xiao to follow her upstairs. She led Su Xiao to a lounge on the third floor and indicated for him to wait a moment before leaving.
In less than ten minutes, an old man with wrinkles and a slightly hunched back pushed the door open and came in. He was holding a metal cane and limped into the room. Last time they met, Su Xiao hadn’t noticed that Senator Carmen was a cripple.
"You killed Moris?"
Carmen quickly approached Su Xiao, looking at him with burning eyes.
"Obviously."
"Good, that thorn is finally dead. How is Westport now?"
Although Carmen’s expression was excited, it didn’t reach the point of being out of control.
"Only one castle remains."
"Hahaha, tell me, how did you deal with that Westport tumor..."
Su Xiao briefly explained Westport’s situation to Carmen. He had guessed why Carmen had this attitude; he wasn’t a senior witch hunter, after all. Some superficial work still needed to be done by Carmen.
"You’ve had a tough journey. As for the bounty payment..."
At this point, Old Man Carmen laughed, revealing his only two remaining teeth.
"It’s alright if it can’t be paid in full at once."
"I was waiting for you to say that."
Old Man Carmen gestured for Shirley to enter the room. Shirley handed a leather bag to Su Xiao, who opened it to reveal it was full of bright gold coins.
Just a glance, and Su Xiao put the leather bag at his feet. Noticing this, Old Man Carmen discreetly rubbed his fingers. He had already noticed that Su Xiao wasn’t particularly interested in money.
Is this really the case? Not actually, Su Xiao wasn’t a saint. If it were Paradise coins, he would naturally keep them properly. As for the gold coins of this world, these were at most temporary currency and couldn’t be taken out of this world at all.
"One more thing."
Su Xiao spoke, and Carmen looked at him questioningly.
"I should have no problem becoming a Red Hunter now, right?"
