Chapter 1565: Chapter 31: Infiltration

The wind howled across the Gobi Desert, the distant mountain range lay bare and desolate, steep to the extreme. The harsh environments here made it nearly impossible for civilians to live and work in peace.

The Eye of the Apostle broke through the sandstorm, reaching above the mountain range, and after penetrating a thin membrane, the surroundings distorted momentarily.

Westport has survived under the watchful eye of the Witch Hunters for so long thanks to its unique qualities. Fortunately, the Eye of the Apostle is not a living entity and did not trigger the mountain’s defense mechanisms.

Through the visuals transmitted by the Eye of the Apostle, Su Xiao saw the scene behind the mountain. What met his eyes was a vast area of terraced houses. It was unknown how many generations it took to carve these; the other side of the mountain had been transformed into gigantic, irregularly-shaped terraces. Thousands of houses were built upon these massive terraces.

The enormous stone terraces were divided into 12 tiers. The higher the building, the more luxurious it became. Closest to the mountain’s peak was a large castle, which had a magnificent view of the sea on the west side and the endless Gobi Desert on the east. All of Westport was in plain view.

Westport was surrounded by mountains on three sides and the sea on another. The outer sides of the three mountains were all sheer cliffs, too steep for ordinary civilians to climb.

Additionally, the cliffs were filled with traps. There was only one entrance to Westport, and that was by sea. Even Su Xiao couldn’t enter through those cliffs.

The cliff’s traps and defense formations were not in the hundreds or thousands but numbered in the tens of thousands. More troubling was the presence of a transparent gas above. Entering this gas felt like stepping into amber, and even though Su Xiao could detect the trap’s locations, pushing forwards would trigger them due to the surrounding viscous gas.

Of course, Su Xiao hadn’t planned to enter Westport from the mountainous sides. Even if he infiltrated, it would be from the sea route.

This natural fortress around Westport had a similarly tight blockade on the sea. Twelve watchtowers had been built in the sea area in front of Westport, arranged in an inverted U shape around the waters. Each watchtower was guarded by several, if not dozens, of witches.

Under the waters connecting each watchtower was an energy net. Each watchtower had a large crystal stone on top that absorbed light energy to maintain the energy net underwater.

Westport was as tightly guarded as an iron bucket, making Su Xiao wonder how Meilodi managed to escape from Westport.

Meilodi claimed she escaped on a fishing boat that went out to sea. Although it wasn’t impossible, it involved quite a bit of luck.

Su Xiao drew a circle on the ground—this was basically the defense map of Westport. The three sheer cliffs had numerous elemental traps, while the sea area was tightly guarded, unless one used spatial ability to teleport directly into Westport.

Su Xiao had a simpler method to enter Westport, which was to first have Bu Bu Wang use the "Heirloom of the Wolf Clan" to create graffiti here, marking a starting point. Then, Bu Bu would infiltrate Westport alone and create a second mark in there to drag Su Xiao from the starting point directly into Westport.

Although the "Heirloom of the Wolf Clan" was equipment, its durability decreased with use. Each starting point and endpoint graffiti consumed 2 durability points. The "Heirloom of the Wolf Clan" had 30 durability points, meaning it could be used only fifteen times.

The "Heirloom of the Wolf Clan" had strategic significance for the team; it could be used in conjunction with Apollo or Hades.

After contemplating for a moment, Su Xiao decided not to use the "Heirloom of the Wolf Clan" for now and go check the surrounding sea conditions first.

The carriage set off again, this time circling around the mountain ranges. Soon, Su Xiao heard the sound of waves, and as the carriage turned a corner at a cliff, a vast stretch of black reefs emerged ahead.

At the shoreline, Su Xiao found there were still many elemental traps. The witches also knew the shallow sea area, where mountains and sea met, was the easiest for enemies to exploit, so they had reinforced the defenses here.

Infiltration from the shallow sea area into the harbor was clearly not an option. The only choice left was to dive into the sea and infiltrate from the seaward side of Westport.

Only Su Xiao, Bu Bu Wang, and Meilodi needed to infiltrate Westport. Because of his large target size, A Mu had to wait by the shore until the battle broke out to watch the cart and potentially charge up the mountain to trigger elemental traps and distract the enemy, creating opportunities for Su Xiao.

"Do I have to go?"

Meilodi looked at Su Xiao in shock. Glancing at her own arms, her meaning was clear: ’I’m just a weak girl with slender arms and legs; do you really have the heart?’

Su Xiao tossed a diving suit in front of Meilodi with a slap. Evidently, he did. Meilodi had grown up in Westport; nobody knew the area better than she did.

Bu Bu Wang put on goggles, bit into a regulator with its mouth, shook its fur, and after a few steps ran forward and leapt high up.

In mid-air, Bu Bu Wang’s head was tilted down, its tail pointing straight like an arrow, and with a plunge, it dove into the water like a sharp sword slicing into the sea.

Meilodi twitched at the corner of her eyes, then glanced at the diving equipment in her hand and shook her head at Su Xiao.

Two minutes later.

Bubbles gurgled up...

Terrified, Meilodi found herself in the sea water. Having grown up in Westport, she was actually afraid of the water, or more accurately, the oppressive feeling of diving underwater left her breathless.

A ’mysterious power’ was blocking Meilodi’s mouth, making her breathing difficult as she flailed her arms wildly.

Su Xiao unlocked the regulator’s inlet on Meilodi’s mouth, allowing the ’mysterious power’ to dissipate...

There was no need to mention Bu Bu Wang’s swimming skills; once it was in water, it became like a fish, swimming even faster thanks to the propeller on its tail.

The sea water was somewhat cold. Su Xiao gestured to Bu Bu Wang, who kicked off with its paws, leaving a ripple in the water as it disappeared from Su Xiao’s perception.

Su Xiao grabbed Meilodi beside him, stepped off into the sea water with a bang, and launched himself toward the deep-water region.

A few minutes later, Su Xiao reached the deep-water area. Not far to the side was a stone pillar built from rocks. According to the intel from Bu Bu Wang, above the stone pillar was a watchtower.

Blue smoke enveloped Su Xiao. Below the sea, the two sides of the stone pillar stretched between yellow energy nets, swaying with the sea water, littered with fish bones below.

Su Xiao gestured to Meilodi to wait there as he floated toward the sea surface.

Slowly surfacing, a few meters away from Su Xiao was a watchtower built on the stone pillar, about ten meters above the sea. The pillar below was covered with various moss and shells, making it slippery.

Su Xiao looked up at the watchtower above, and after finding no abnormalities, he pressed his hand against the stone pillar.

Buzz~

The green indicator light on the black sharkskin gloves lit up. Hundreds of micro suction cups activated at once, and with the adhesion from the black gloves, Su Xiao started climbing toward the top of the watchtower.

Upon reaching the watchtower’s main structure, Su Xiao paused. Above him was the circular window of the watchtower, offering near-total visibility.

The Eye of the Apostle flew out from Su Xiao’s sleeve. Ignoring the Eye for the moment, he pulled three ropes from his waist, anchoring himself securely to the watchtower using the suction cups and ropes. D·Assassin appeared in his hand.
