Chapter 1557: Chapter 23: Mere White Level

Tap, tap, tap...

Footsteps echoed from the darkness, as a woman in a black leather jacket, holding a metal staff, emerged from the shadows. Each side of the metal staff was studded with a gemstone—Soul Crystals, if Su Xiao had identified them correctly.

Clink~

The woman in black rested the metal staff on the ground, scattering stone fragments. Despite her slender build, she was undoubtedly a power type.

"Truly calm, worthy of praise."

A female voice echoed again, this time from the darkness outside the door. A woman dressed as a noble came forth, her face half concealed by a veil, and her crimson lips were exceptionally alluring.

"Is it really calm? Perhaps he is so terrified that he cannot speak. You two have witnessed witch hunters kneeling and begging for mercy before."

Yet another unfamiliar female voice came, this time from the window. The speaker, another witch, sat on the windowsill, dressed in loose brown attire with short golden hair, her clothes adorned with at least a dozen pockets.

The black-leather witch, the noble witch, and the golden witch formed a vague encirclement, trapping Su Xiao in the room. Their timing was perfect; Su Xiao’s weapons for hunting witches were left in the carriage, something they had confirmed.

The three witches revealed themselves due to Su Xiao’s previous actions shocking them. He had headed straight for the water source upon entering the city, marking the initiation of their plan.

"If you were a bit dumber, I might let you live a few more days. Such a pity, being too clever."

The noble’s red lips curled slightly, watching Su Xiao with an ambiguous smile.

"Stop with the chatter. The safest choice is to kill him directly."

The witch with the metal staff was noticeably colder, or perhaps carried the aura of an assassin.

"What’s the rush, he’s not escaping."

The golden-haired witch laughed, her demeanor indicating she was indifferent to everything, revealing her prideful nature.

Su Xiao glanced around, initially confirming that these three were elemental witches, the most formidable type in direct combat.

A one vs. three? No, if Bubu Wang doesn’t intervene, it’s one vs. six—three witches plus three avatars. As for Meilodi, her role is to provide information and beauty.

The three witches had distinct personalities—the noble liked to tease others, the black-leather witch was cold, and the short-haired golden witch was arrogant.

"Only three witches in the city?"

Su Xiao finally spoke; now was the chance to easily extract information. When victory is assured, the more prideful the person, the easier it is for them to lower their guard.

"Why, white level..."

"Shut up."

Just as the blonde witch wanted to speak, the leather witch snapped, drawing Su Xiao’s gaze.

"Take action."

The leather witch spun the short stick in her hands, her avatar materializing behind her—a figure resembling a diminutive elf clan member, with pointed ears and slightly dark skin.

This avatar wielded twin daggers, its skin slightly dark, surrounded by dissipating dark elements.

With a bang, the leather witch transformed into a black phantom, rushing straight towards Su Xiao, alternating charges with the avatar, reaching Su Xiao within a few steps.

The mournful wind swept in, the wooden table before Su Xiao exploded into dust, caused by the dark element.

Su Xiao vanished into thin air, reappearing before the golden-haired witch.

The golden-haired witch sitting at the window clasped her hands; white light spread from her as the center, the building shattered, revealing an enormous avatar.

Zhng.

A pale blue cleave sliced through, first penetrating the blonde witch’s chest, then slashing the avatar’s neck behind her.

Stone shards splattered; the blonde witch had already leapt up, but when the blade light passed, her body below the chest lost feeling.

"Ah-ya?"

The blonde witch in mid-air was somewhat surprised.

Splurch,

A line of blood split the center of the blonde witch’s head, her pupils quickly dimming. As a third-stage witch, despite having not weak close combat ability, if Su Xiao closed in, it was basically a death penalty.

A mass of rubble tumbled from the window; Su Xiao stood before the broken wall, looking sideways at the other two witches—two more third-stage elemental witches.

Su Xiao merely glanced at the noble, then focused on the black-leather witch. Her willpower was more resolute, and she wasn’t one for idle chatter, so there was no need to consider leaving any alive.

At this moment, the leather witch’s pupils shrunk to their limit. Earlier, Su Xiao’s blade was so fast that she hadn’t seen clearly how he struck.

"Is this... a white level witch hunter?"

The noble stared at Su Xiao in shock; his one blade instant kill of the blonde witch truly stunned her.

"Whatever level he is, let’s treat him as a red level."

The leather witch tightened her grip on the metal staff, that diminutive elf avatar shielded her front.

"Makes sense, we’ll attack from both sides, you left me right."

The noble also manifested an avatar—not humanoid, but a vivid scarlet python, its appearance indicating it’s venomous. The food’s previous poison likely provided by this witch.

"Alright, I’ll go left you right."

"Let’s go."

The noble controlled the blood python to pounce forward; the leather witch and her avatar charged simultaneously. Yet in the next moment, the noble turned to flee, the blood python’s tail whipped against the leather witch’s back, intending to knock her towards Su Xiao.

The noble intended no joint effort with the leather witch against Su Xiao. Su Xiao’s earlier blade had scared her witless; she never imagined any human could strike like that, not even a red-tier witch hunter.

While being attacked by her companion, the leather witch froze for a moment, gritted her teeth, stamped the ground, and turned to escape. But as she reached the door, she abruptly halted—a barely discernible metal wire was drawn taut before her throat.

The metal wire tightened, the leather witch clasped her throat...

Boom, boom, boom.

After several thunderous rumbles, the noble crashed through the wall to flee the castle. Once she landed, a surge of blood energy spread from within, sending a shiver down her spine.

"This monster."

The noble lifted her foot, eager to escape, but in the next instant, a whistling sound came from behind, triggering her instinct to crouch.

Smack—a shower of blood, a noise of bone snapping; something unknown slammed before the noble.

"Cough, cough..."

The embedded leather witch in the stone tablet struggled to lift her arm, pointing behind the noble.

The noble’s cheeks twitched; her veil fell as she awkwardly turned. Su Xiao stood just five meters behind her.

Drip, drip...

Blood dripped from the blade tip; the leather witch was slowly growing cold within the stone tablet.

Various thoughts flashed through the noble’s mind, eventually turning ferocious. She had no choice but to fight, alongside some regret for escaping first.

The blood python coiled around the leather witch’s arm, quickly thinning. As it shrank, a red mist spread.

Zhng, zhng, zhng...

A multitude of blade aura slashes surged forth; Su Xiao stamped the ground, flashing to the noble’s side, a dozen more blade aura severed from the edge.

The noble was surrounded from all sides by nearly continuous blade aura; at first, she could defend or dodge. But after the first blade aura struck her, pain radiated from the wounds, causing her body to halt, heralding a nightmare’s onset.

After unleashing over a hundred blade aura, Su Xiao ceased. Nearby, as the red mist dispersed, a mangled silhouette was sprawled on the ground.

Inside the nearby castle, Meilodi stood across the broken window, her small mouth agape, seemingly yet to grasp what transpired.
