Chapter 1420: Chapter 42: Consecutive Slap in the Face

hours later, inside a residential house.

Crack, crack.

The crisp sound filtered into the little assistant’s ears. Her eyelids twitched as she lay on the bed. She felt a faint sting in her lower abdomen, but at least it no longer affected her in combat, which brought a smile to her face.

"So noisy..."

The little assistant was still a bit groggy. Her hand lifted from under the blanket, the soft quilt slipping down, and that fair arm wrapped in bandages hung over the edge of the bed.

A moment later, the little assistant’s snoring became even. This warm, dry bed made her reluctant to open her eyes.

Crack, crack...

There it was again, that strange sound, and the little assistant’s brows furrowed.

Bang!

The bed beneath the little assistant suddenly collapsed to one side. Her expression froze in mild shock. A moment later, she heard claws scrabbling on the floor, then something seemed to shake its fur.

"Huh?"

The little assistant was obviously dumbfounded. The thick curtains over the window blocked out the sunlight, making the room she was in dim.

The little assistant sat up, the blanket sliding off her. Though she was naked, nothing was exposed; her body was wrapped in large swathes of bandages.

When the little assistant’s gaze swept around, her body went rigid. Within her field of view were actually five Icefield Wolves. One of them, the strongest, had a scar over its eye. As for the other four, the little assistant kept feeling like something strange was mixed in among them, but for the moment she couldn’t tell what.

Sitting on the bed, the little assistant didn’t dare move. She knew this species, the Icefield Wolves. At this distance, even if she had a gun in hand, she’d still die here.

"Grr..."

The Scar Eye Icefield Wolf let out a low growl from its throat. The other three Icefield Wolves sitting on the floor stood up, their pairs of ice-blue eyes all staring at the little assistant.

"Sir... we’ve got wolves in our hideout."

The little assistant spoke in a low voice. As soon as the words left her mouth, the Scar Eye Icefield Wolf leaped onto the bed, baring a mouthful of sharp fangs.

"Woof!"

With a single bark from some canine, the Scar Eye Icefield Wolf on the bed shrank its neck, tucked its tail, and jumped off the bed, whimpering as it went.

The little assistant’s thought process jammed. She simply couldn’t make sense of what was happening. Her gaze shifted to that "Icefield Wolf" with the unique bark, and to her surprise, she realized this didn’t seem like a wolf at all, but a big dog whose fur color was extremely similar to an Icefield Wolf’s.

What stunned the little assistant even more was that this big dog seemed to possess high intelligence. That look in its eyes felt like it was greeting her?

To confirm this, the little assistant raised her hand. "Hello there, doggy."

"Woo woo..."

The four Icefield Wolves surrounded the bed, as if ready to tear the little assistant to pieces at any moment.

Just then, the door opened, and Su Xiao stood in the doorway.

"Bu Bu, time to eat."

Hearing Su Xiao’s voice, those four "ferocious as hell" Icefield Wolves all lay down on the floor. One of them had a wolf face swollen like two steamed buns, looking absurdly funny. This was the exact same look it had when Bubu Wang once messed with a Gobaya Bee and got stung.

That’s right, Bubu Wang had come to rendezvous with Su Xiao. This guy had already taken out the Head Wolf and seized the Icefield Wolves’ power in the palm of his paw. A Mu stayed behind on the Icefield to prevent any accidents.

Bubu Wang yawned, with faint wood shavings still visible on its nose. The bloodline of home-demolition flowed through its body.

Bubu Wang hadn’t come to meet Su Xiao alone; it had brought four little brothers along. Among them, Scar Eye was the fiercest, with Power, Agility, and Physical attributes all between 85 and 90. Its 90 Agility was its True Attributes, and it had as many as six different abilities, a genuine Leader Level boss-type creature.

As for how Bubu Wang commanded these Icefield Wolves, it certainly wasn’t by force. Or rather, it couldn’t beat any one of the Icefield Wolves.

Bubu Wang relied on wisdom and schemes. Its appearance was very similar to that of an Icefield Wolf. When it first entered the Icefield Wolf Pack, it was just a fringe, lower-class wolf, the most bottom-of-the-barrel kind.

Once, when the Scar Eye Icefield Wolf was gravely injured, it was abandoned by its own clan. Bubu Wang dragged it into a snow cave and used the recovery effect of the Ice and Snow Goddess’ Aura to save it. With Bubu Wang’s intelligence, food naturally wasn’t a problem.

At first, the Scar Eye Icefield Wolf wasn’t grateful to Bubu Wang, and would even attack it. But sharing food gradually softened its attitude. Still, Scar Eye had its own Pride—wolves would never be slaves, unless you found it a pretty she-wolf to carry on its bloodline.

Using the lure of Food plus a crushing edge in Intelligence, Bubu Wang quickly tricked a female Icefield Wolf over. In Scar Eye’s eyes, this she-wolf was delicate and beautiful. But with Bu Bu’s IQ, when it looked at the she-wolf, she was just "a she-wolf," nothing more, no other thoughts whatsoever.

The life-saving grace plus the gift of food greatly increased Scar Eye Icefield Wolf’s favorability. The delicate and pretty she-wolf became the last straw that broke the Pride of the Wolf Clan. From then on, Bubu Wang had his first little brother.

Once you had a start, everything got easier. With Scar Eye’s combat power, Bubu Wang forcibly roped in over a dozen Icefield Wolves as enforcers in the pack. With abundant food, those Icefield Wolves became Little Brother No. 2, No. 3, No. 4.

Being able to do this was actually tied to Bubu Wang’s high 75 Charm Attributes. Combined with its similar appearance, this gave another boost to its Charm.

Bubu Wang’s forces gradually expanded. After receiving reinforcements from A Mu, the wolf pack under Bubu Wang’s command was second in size only to the Head Wolf’s group. Under the crushing weight of its Intelligence, the Head Wolf soon became a lone wolf, besieged and killed by the Icefield Wolves. From that point on, Bubu Wang practically ruled that stretch of Icefield.

After finishing all this, Bubu Wang rushed to rendezvous with Su Xiao, which led to the current scene.

At the dining table, the little assistant stared blankly at Bubu Wang. She just couldn’t figure it out—could not understand why this guy handled cutlery better than she did.

"This is..."

The little assistant finally voiced the question in her heart.

"My partner."

Su Xiao was chewing his food as he spoke, while drawing a rough sketch.

"Woof."

Bubu Wang barked, its paw pointing at the center of the rough sketch, meaning: "This is the Clock Tower, about 30 meters tall."

"Ha..."

The little assistant got up, washed her face to calm down, then sat back at the dining table.

"Tell me the intel you’ve got."

Su Xiao tossed the sketch to Bubu Wang. Bubu Wang had already toured the city once, and had even infiltrated the God Court Branch in the city center, where it had breakfast together with the mission target, Du Bo · Yi Si. From start to finish, Du Bo · Yi Si never noticed Bubu Wang, and the bandage-wrapped Buck didn’t notice either.

"Target Du Bo · Yi Si is at the God Court Branch in this city. The defenses there are tight. It’s absolutely impossible to infiltrate... what is this!"

The little assistant stared at the sketch in Bubu Wang’s paws. Bubu Wang grabbed a nearby pen and wrote a few large characters on the sketch: Detailed Layout of the God Court Branch.

The little assistant felt as if an invisible, giant hand had slapped her across the face.

"Uh~ Having a layout will make the operation much easier, but Du Bo · Yi Si’s daily routine..."

Slap~

A file was placed in front of the little assistant, clearly recording everything Du Bo · Yi Si had done in a day—even how many times he went to the toilet, written in detail. It even noted how many pieces of bread he ate last night, and the fact that he was left-handed.

Another invisible slap. The little assistant was a bit broken inside. She lowered her head and started eating, her cheeks bulging out on both sides.
