Chapter 540: A Hardcore Edge
Chapter 540: A Hardcore Edge
Time quickly went by, and Xu Feng passed the rewards to Brutus, Razor, and Feras, along with the other NPC Numbers for their work in the siege. Due to their presence, Brian's flawless strategy was foiled and ruined completely.
In that particular siege battle, Brian made one fatal mistake only, neglecting the possibility of NPCs being on Xu Feng's side.
'If Brian focused more on NPCs than trying to have his people bring mobs to him to super level up to advance to Tier 1, then I would have been a bit troubled.' Xu Feng inwardly sneered at Brian's action in trying to speed ahead.
If advancing to Tier 1 was that important, then he would have long advanced himself and not wait till he obtained the Origin Pass.
Having thought about the Origin Pass staying cozily in his inventory, Xu Feng was pleased once again as he quickly dismissed the Silent Guard.
"You all are free to roam around to improve yourself. And If your presence was needed, you would be notified through the transmission stone that Tracy had handed to you earlier." Xu Feng announced, not trying to imprison these NPCs.
Usually, when players hired NPCs, they would have them guard them 24/7, but that was the worst possible action a player could do.
By making the NPCs guard you 24/7, even when you logged out, you were essentially hindering the growth of the NPCs. After all, how could they possibly become stronger if they had to remain still?
Such an action was equivalent to telling a player to simply AFK (Away from Keyboard), but in the case of VRMMORPG, it meant doing nothing and just sitting or standing in place, chatting.
Instead of actively trying to improve their strength, they remained in a single place and wasted their time.
This was the main difference between a hardcore player and a casual player. The hardcore player never heard of the word rest and only knew the statement: grind and grind even more for levels.
Sleep?
That word did not exist in their dictionary!
Of course, their body won't be able to endure a prolonged lack of sleep, forcing them to eventually sleep, but for a few hours only before they get back to the grind.
The motto of these players was always: GRIND FOR THE WIN!
With that in mind, Xu Feng knew he was a hardcore player, so the NPCs he hired must also be hardcore regardless of their will.
"I expect to see all of you improve during the time of not being deployed. If I see anyone remaining at the same level even after a certain duration, then sorry, but you are fired." Xu Feng declared, essentially giving them a solemn warning that their job could easily be gone in a puff.
It all depended on their willpower and determination to improve.
Naturally, the NPCs weren't dissatisfied with Xu Feng, but rather impressed.
This was especially true for Feras and his group of friends, who wanted nothing more than to improve their strength when they chose to follow him all the way from Paradise Plains.
As Brutus, Razor, and the rest were quickly exiting the room after receiving their rewards, Xu Feng suddenly called out to Feras.
"Oh, right, Feras. Speaking of your presence here, have you heard any news about Yaren?" Xu Feng asked him before he made his exit.
"Elder Yaren?" Although confused by the sudden question, Feras continued to speak what he knew of. "Before leaving Paradise Plains, I've heard she's been busy crafting a new mysterious item along with the winner of the Blacksmith Profession. Other than that, I don't know anything else since information regarding Elder Yaren is strictly restricted."
'I supposed Crimson Heart is going to be busy for a long time.' Nodding, Xu Feng waved his hand and allowed Feras to leave.
Once they had been dismissed, leaving only Tracy, she stepped forward and reported, "By the way, Boss, the City Magistrate would like to arrange a meeting with you."
Although knowing a few things or two, Xu Feng still asked, "Oh, did the City Magistrate give a reason?"
"Yes, the Fortress of the Fallen could be said to be an ancient lore, and a certain Librarian was a fanatic in researching it. If I must take a guess, then it's most probably the Librarian that sought after the City Magistrate to be the middle-man." She gave her honest opinion.
For a Librarian to be capable of making a City Magistrate act as the middle-man to transmit a message, it goes without saying just how influential this Librarian was.
'This should be related to the Origin Pass.' Having deduced this Librarian was the key for his Origin Pass to be used, he needed to be extra careful.
Diving straight in without any preparation was simply asking for death and wasting the precious Origin Pass.
Not only was the Origin Pass extremely rare, but a player only had one chance to use it once. It was not a guaranteed success, and upon failure, they would have to do their best to search for another one.
However, the Origin Pass was like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
"Do I have to meet with them right away?" Xu Feng inquired, clearly not trying to meet with the City Magistrate yet. Meeting the City Magistrate would definitely trigger a chain mission, and he might receive a time limit as well, delaying most of his plans.
Thankfully for him though, Tracy shook her head. "Jessica informed me that the City Magistrate had gone on to a meeting with others in another place. They should be able to return within 3-5 days."

"Okay, good. You can continue with your task then." Xu Feng exclaimed and calmly walked toward a glowing orb.
This glowing orb had a built-in teleportation function, only viable within the Vanguard Hotel. By clicking the yes button in the system prompt, Xu Feng found himself teleported to a hotel room.
He then promptly logged out of the Divine World.
