Chapter 1493: Defense Border Part 8
Chapter 1493: Defense Border Part 8
Whoosh!
As the bright blue sky quickly turned dark and was consumed by gloominess, only a beacon of light was shining beneath the ground.
One might think a beacon of light resembled hope and the future.
But they would be terribly wrong.
Not only was this beacon of light the complete opposite of hope, but it was also the beginning of a great disaster.
There was a famous term.
To invite a wolf into the house was easy, but to chase the wolf out was extremely difficult.
And right now, a Tier 4 Demon Lord being summoned was definitely even more difficult than trying to chase a wolf out of the house.
In the end, what was to come happened.
"Ah, the breath of fresh air is really nice." A menacing voice resounded amidst the blinding light.
A cloud of smoke puffed up, covering the scenery, but Xu Feng and Kong Ming would soon get a clearer look.
Two large wings were spread out, each one colored in dark crimson as they flapped with might, scattering away the smoke.
By the time the two got a vision of it, Kong Ming’s body trembled slightly.
The figure was a towering demon, its mere presence distorted the air itself, exuding an overwhelming aura of tyranny and destruction that made even breathing feel difficult.
Despite the two of them being Tier 4, Kong Ming could tell at a glance that their level was very vast.
"Can we even stall enough for reinforcement?" Kong Ming smiled bitterly. He turned around to the city, his perception instantly captured the citizens still doing their best to evacuate.
Given their distances, Kong Ming was positive that the Demon Lord could easily catch up to them for a big slaughter.
Demons were known to have an intense craving for blood, especially when their prey were weaklings and could be toyed with ease.
While he feared for the worst, Xu Feng’s eyes were actually focused on another individual.
This individual was someone he had encountered before.
"Cedric..." He muttered the name.
"Another Tier 4 opponent?" Kong Ming also took notice of the individual at this moment and became dumbfounded. "Why are they so intent on ruining Bardmon City? We have nothing valuable here."
"It’s because this is one of the defense line cities." Xu Feng exhaled softly.
As long as this defense line was breached, it would open the floodgates to multiple human territories, making it easier for them to invade.
He didn’t even bother questioning why, if the city was this important, why didn’t anyone send more competent people to defend it!
After all, the short answer for this was so blatantly obvious.
Corruption and selfishness!
Who in their right mind wants to come to an unproductive city and stay in the defense line all the time?
"Oh, ho, look who we have here." At this moment, Cedric also came to notice them and smiled wickedly when his eyes locked onto Xu Feng.
"Isn’t this the rat healer who slipped away last time?" He licked his tongue deviously.
’Of course he remembers me.’ Xu Feng cursed silently. Why was it that enemies often met frequently as opposed to friends?
"Ah, so it’s you." He put on an act and pretended to recall him just now.
"Hmph, I was just wondering where you had gone all this time. Our Necro Valley was calling me a liar because they couldn’t believe a Tier 4 Summoner could be such a coward and go into hiding."
Instantly, Cedric’s face darkened. "Hiding? How dare you puny ants accuse this mighty self of hiding!"
Cedric had been occupied with colluding with the Colossuses and then finally using the chance to summon a Tier 4 Demon Lord to the Divine World.
The amount of sacrifices he had to make to bypass the Divine World laws was enough to make anyone squirm.
Yet someone actually had the courage to call him a coward??!
"You called me ant?" Xu Feng gasped in horror. "How could you call us an ant? If we’re an ant, then what are you who ran away from the ant?"
"..."
Cedric was visibly annoyed when he realized this tongue of theirs was poisonous.
"Karoos, that man is the person who stopped your early arrival." He turned to the Demon Lord and explained.
The Tier 4 Demon Lord, identified as Karoos, narrowed their eyes as they stared at Xu Feng.
"So this is the human brat who delayed your objective to gather enough supplies for my descent." Karoos snorted coldly, his gaze gradually turning cold.
At the high cliff, Kong Ming was dumbfounded. How did a Tier 2 Immortal manage to tick off a Tier 4 Summoner from Hell?
’Wait a second... There was an intel report about sightings of Hell.’ Kong Ming swallowed nervously when he connected the dots between the two. To think that the reason they were made aware of Hell was also because of him.
Just what was the coincidence?
Both major incidents involved Xu Feng.
If it wasn’t for the fact that there was clear killing intent from Cedric, then Kong Ming might have really suspected Xu Feng of being an actual traitor.
"Ahem, Demon Lord Karoos, is it?" Xu Feng cleared his throat and glanced at them. "This is still hell; you have been deceived badly."
"This is hell?" Karoos’ wings flared up in anger. He expanded his surroundings and was quickly infuriated.
"How is this hell!" He roared and flapped his wings, causing the nearby area to generate a gust.
Xu Feng scratched his head in confusion. "What do you mean by ’how is this hell?’ You have clearly disregarded the Divine World laws to appear here. Once exposed, you are better off living in your hell than being sent to real hell."
It was at this moment that Karoos realized he had been taken for a fool by a mere ant.
"I see why you lose your composure easily," Karoos said to Cedric, seemingly understanding the latter’s emotions.
"Lord Karoos, this bastard is stalling for time again." Cedric quickly implored Karoos to act rapidly to eliminate Xu Feng.
