Chapter 1457: The Retaliation Part 8
Chapter 1457: The Retaliation Part 8
Shortly after Xu Feng decided on the messenger alias, he ultimately chose the most discreet one, Tobey.
Tobey was a middle-aged man who had the appearance of a very old man because he had sustained grave injuries on behalf of the emperor during his expedition.
The emperor nearly lost his life had it not been for Tobey’s selfless sacrifice.
Since then, Tobey held a special position and was basically granted a life of wealth when the emperor ascended and eliminated his political enemies.
However, Tobey refused the life of luxury and preferred to remain as his messenger, just like the old days.
Although Tobey had reduced his appearance as of late, nobody in the upper circle would be ignorant enough to not know about him.
Many children were even specifically given the portrait of Tobey and warned severely that if they offended him, they could forfeit their noble identity.
After all, the emperor wouldn’t hesitate to punish those who disrespected Tobe. There had been proven cases that a few families had been demoted and left to rot when they mocked his old appearance when delivering an oral message.
Nobody was safe from it.
Not even a Tier 5 powerhouse was able to escape punishment for its slight disregard for Tobey.
Yes, it was risky to pose as Tobey, but so what?
With the Mirage Pendant, he could even deceive the top of the top.
In the blink of an eye, Xu Feng changed his clothes and activated the Mirage Pendant.
He retrieved a mirror and glanced at his new appearance, alongside the sexy white beard.
"Haha, I can now say this with a straight face." He assumed a domineering presence and glared intensely at a nearby tree.
"Junior, you dare court death!"
After bellowing those words aloud, he felt a sense of accomplishment.
Ah, only the goated ones would understand his emotion and action.
Sometime later, Xu Feng practiced a bit of his acting. He tried his best to recall Tobey in the past timeline.
While he was busy practicing, back at Starion City, the situation was tense and grim.
Everyone was forced to be on curfew, with buildings being ransacked by the law enforcement guards.
The street was completely empty, and those who were caught dilly-dallying outside were immediately detained under suspicion of betraying humanity.
Of course, some curiosity still aroused some people as they opened their windows slightly to glance at the situation.
And it was precisely at that moment that they accidentally caught a glimpse.
"No, please don’t take me away. My mother needs medicine for her illness."
A young man cried aloud in tears as he was being dragged away by some guards in the open street.
"You claimed to need medicine for your mother?" One of the guards sneered and immediately inquired for further details.
Sure enough, the young man was flabbergasted, unable to keep up with his lies.
He had come out for a rendezvous with a woman he had pleasures with occasionally, unaware of the curfew because he overslept.
Who could have thought that he would be detained almost immediately?
The young man thought he would be jailed for a few days until a powerful presence emerged from the sky.
"Another rule breaker? It seemed like nobody cared about my words anymore."
Instantly, the guards went on their knees, their posture extremely polite and respectful.
"Greetings, Lord Dexter." The leader of the guard greeted him with utmost reverence.
After all, the figure was none other than the Tier 5 powerhouse, Dexter.
Dexter nodded slightly as his eyes shifted to the young man.
"Since this young man falsely claims his mother has an illness, it shows how unfilial he is. For unfilial people, they don’t deserve to breathe in the same air as us, right?" He calmly said, sending shivers through the crowd.
To those unaware of the intent, what Dexter essentially meant was that the young man was better off dead.
"No, please forgive me." The young man knew he had messed up terribly and hurriedly tried to plead for mercy.
Alas, what he received in return was disdain and hatred in Dexter’s eyes.
When the leader saw how adamant Dexter was, he wasted no time in giving his subordinate the signal to execute the young man.
If anything, the young man could only blame himself for showing up at the wrong time.
The onlookers who were watching from the windows hurriedly closed them tightly and refrained from spectating anymore. They were frightened by Dexter’s cold and ruthless demeanor.
As they shut their windows tightly, Dexter simply snorted. He could naturally discern these spectators, but he had no intention of going on a killing spree.
They were technically still in curfew, like he had stated.
The rules weren’t broken in that sense.
’Hmph, if it wasn’t for that bastard Marvin, would I be reduced to some watchdog?’ Dexter cursed inwardly.
He had no idea how or where Marvin obtained evidence of him colluding with the people in Hell.
However, they signed a magic contract.
He had to oversee the cities under his control or influence and prevent others from causing mayhem or ruin to them.
It was supposed to be an easy job, but as soon as he arrived, his nose caught a whiff of a particular incense.
’Why would someone use the Fatal Attraction Incense in this city?’ Dexter clenched his fist. ’Could it be that this Marvin is colluding with another unknown force and knew in advance that his base would be attacked?’
"Forget it, there’s also Olivia mentioning someone was coming." He sighed deeply. Olivia was an acquaintance, and he could only hope whoever she vouched for would come and leave as discussed.
His dealings with Hell must be kept a secret, so he didn’t want to deal with Olivia.
"Sir, someone is outside the city gate and claims that you have granted them permission." A guard suddenly approached him and reported.
"Hmm, then let them in. What are you waiting for?" Dexter raised an eyebrow.
The guard trembled slightly and spoke with a very timid voice. "The person said that you should go out and greet him."
