Chapter 1383: Aetheria Empire Part 30
Chapter 1383: Aetheria Empire Part 30
The auction lasted for nearly an hour because of the intense bidding war between the nobles and influential people.
The original auctioned 1,500 gold coins became the highlight of the auction.
It was a highlight not because it was costly, but because of how cheap the bidder got away with it.
After all, the second Phantasm Scales and onward, the lowest price was actually 2,400 gold coins.
Some were satisfied with their bid, while some were dissatisfied.
The satisfied were naturally those who won the scales, whereas the dissatisfied lost because they didn’t bring enough money.
"This concludes today’s auction." Xu Feng announced and clasped his hands.
His clasping was like the sound of a funeral for those who failed to bid successfully.
"No, Viscount Lin Feng. This cannot be the end!"
"My people are bringing in the funds now. I can still bid for a higher price."
"Yes, Viscount Lin Feng. These items were so unexpected!"
Almost immediately, many of them began to beg Xu Feng to continue the auction. By now, they were certain he still had quite a few in his stash.
But as for how much?
They didn’t know, and no one stupid enough was going to ask that kind of question.
What was the intent behind an auction?
It was to auction rare items that could not be found in other stores.
And the quantity would always be secretive to ensure bidders would be kept on edge and do their best to obtain the item firsthand.
"I’m glad that everyone is enthusiastic, but the stocks need to be delivered. Today was just a greeting auction." Xu Feng raised his hands in hopes of calming them down.
Needless to say, the people couldn’t calm down at all.
How could they?
These were game-changer moments!!
"Haha, I know everyone’s worries, but fret not. It’ll be soon, and Madam Ying over there will send you invitation cards. Remember, only those with invitation cards can attend." Xu Feng gestured his hand toward Madam Ying and announced thunderously.
Almost immediately, the crowd shifted its attention to Madam Ying.
"Ehh?" Madam Ying was dumbfounded and startled by this announcement. She wasn’t informed in advance and was equally surprised like the rest.
Still, as an experienced person, she quickly composed herself and adapted to the situation.
"Haha, the invitation cards would be promptly delivered." Madam Ying chuckled heartily. Despite the chuckling, almost everyone present was caught off guard.
Had they known the events would escalate to this, then they wouldn’t have questioned her intention earlier.
Now it was just great!
With the emergence of these precious scales and her being the sole representative or invitation sender on behalf of Xu Feng, they could only get on her good side.
"Madam Ying... about that invitation card. Is it possible to give out a few more to me?" A noble approached her and asked. Needless to say, he wanted more invitation cards to invite others to chip in money.
The resale value of the invitation card was huge!
"I’ll think about it." Madam Ying smiled subtly.
Though inwardly, she was sneering at the latter. ’Hmph, want more invitation cards when you’re the first one to snide at me? Keep dreaming!’
Sometime later, everyone paid their greetings to Madam Ying and hoped to receive an invitation card soon.
Once everyone was gone, Madam Ying closed the restaurant and gestured for the employees to bring over a few cups of Fragrance Tea.
As the two sat down and took a sip, she stared at Xu Feng with a meaningful gaze.
"You really are something else." She commented. He first deceived her and played her like a fiddle. Yet in the next instance, he gave her a big fortune and a comeback method toward those nobles.
What was this carrot and the stick method?
Did he really think he could tame her with such cheap tricks?
"There’s no need to thank me." Contrary to her belief, Xu Feng placed his cup down and explained.
"I didn’t do this to help you, but for selfish gains. By putting you in charge, those nobles would do whatever they could to bribe you for the invitation card. At that moment, you can just sell it for a sky-high price, and we’ll split it evenly, 50-50."
"..."
As much as Madam Ying wanted to call him shameless, she knew very well she loved this idea a lot.
To vent her frustration and even extort a great amount.
Why would she complain about such a good thing?
"Pardon my rudeness, but how many of those precious scales do you own?" She cleared her throat and asked. Only by learning his overall stock could she come up with a proper plan.
Xu Feng nodded in agreement. He had no intention to be the auctioneer every single time.
Swoosh!
In the blink of an eye, stacks of Phantasm Scale emerged on the table, filling it to the brim. As if that wasn’t enough of an exaggeration, the scales began overflowing and dropped to the ground.
Meanwhile, Madam Ying was completely frozen solid on the spot. Her eyes widened in utter disbelief.
"Did you rob some tomb or treasury?" She twitched her mouth and glanced at him as if he were a monster.
This kind of game-changing item was actually so abundant in his stash.
She couldn’t even imagine the merits he would gain if he were to simply offer these scales to the empire directly.
"Don’t bother trying to invest these scales toward the empire. They simply take it for granted or forcefully snatch it from you under the slogan of humanity." Xu Feng had no loyalty toward the Aetheria Empire whatsoever.
The only reason he wanted the noble status was to make his life easier.
They were his stepping stone for his journey, and likewise, he compensated the empire more than enough for their effort.
If anything, it was an equivalent exchange, so Xu Feng held no qualms about withholding these resources for his benefit only.
"If you’re worried about not having a supply, then just send a messenger to my town." He calmly said, grabbing the teacup and taking another sip.
