Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 1042: Lao Shu

Chapter 1042: Lao Shu

Xu Feng wasn’t exactly oblivious to the current state of players with the Cartographer Guild.

Hence, he readily accepted Joseph’s suggestion.

Firstly, it could save them the cliche scenario of an insult from the start, followed by a thunderous face slap when he revealed his support.

Secondly, there was no need to trifle with the Cartographer Guild over such a small issue.

Lastly, Xu Feng was simply too lazy to repeat the same thing over and over again to another person. He found it redundant and a waste of breath.

Joseph heaved a sigh of relief when he realized how easygoing this particular Immortal was compared to the unruly ones in the past.

It was truly a stark contrast, and Joseph wondered if this was one of the factors that caught Sir Chao’s eyes.

Sometime later, Joseph approached a room and knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" An annoyed voice resounded from the inside. They had already given prior notice that unless it was an emergency, one shouldn’t disturb them.

After all, it would be incredibly frustrating if they were in the zone to finish their masterpiece, only to be interrupted and cause them to lose the zone.

"It’s me, Joseph," Joseph responded softly. "I have an Immortal that is sent—"

Before Joseph could finish his words, the door suddenly opened, and an infuriated cartographer appeared in front of him.

"Do you want to lose your job or what?" The cartographer questioned solemnly.

He was an elder with a respected and high integrity within the circle of cartographer, Vin Chou. And it just so happened that Vin Chou was one of the victims of the crazy antics of the past Immortals who reported him and his integrity.

Hence, he was overly sensitive regarding these unscrupulous and disrespectful so-called Immortals.

Despite being subtly threatened with losing his job, Joseph was actually relieved that his decision was correct. ’Good thing I told the Immortal to stay behind and let me handle first.’

If the Immortal were to be angry and went back to complain to Chao Shen, then Joseph really would have to find another job in other cities.

Offending Chao Shen or displeasing the former was essentially the end of one’s career within Evershade City.

Even the City Lord treated Chao Shen with utmost hospitality and respect.

So who would dare to cross such a figure?

Maybe if it were fellow cartographers in the same era as Chao Shen, otherwise, even the other cartographers must pay their respects to their seniors.

"The Immortal was sent over here by Sir Chao," Joseph explained in a low but subtle tone.

"Sir Chao? What kind of Chao is that?" Vin Chou snorted, clearly still angered by the previous incidents.

However, when Vin Chou noticed Joseph’s sudden change of expression and his aura slightly increasing, he became suspicious. It was as if his next choice of words were wrong, then Joseph might just tackle him.

Thankfully, the atmosphere didn’t turn too intense when Lao Shu approached the door and questioned, "What’s going on? Didn’t I inform the receptionist to not send anyone up here?"

Seeing that it was Lao Shu who came to inquire, Joseph promptly ignored Vin Chou and went to him. He then whispered the same thing.

And sure enough, Lao Shu’s eyes widened.

"Where is that youngster?" He asked in a somewhat agitated tone.

Sometime later, Lao Shu was guided by Joseph to meet with Xu Feng, who was sitting down on a chair.

’Seems like the town is doing well now that Reave Town got hit hard by the scandal.’ Xu Feng mused silently.

While he was keeping up with the current event, a silent shadow approached, casting itself over part of the light and dimming the space around him.

He raised his chin and spotted an elderly man accompanying the guard.

"You’re sent here by Chao Shen?" Lao Shu asked in a somewhat anticipating tone.

"Yes, that is correct." Xu Feng nodded and flashed the folding fan.

As Lao Shu’s eyes trailed toward the folding fan, he could confirm that the fan belonged to Chao Shen.

"He gave you a mission, right?" Lao Shu questioned.

Nodding, Xu Feng kept it subtle, mainly because he could tell Lao Shu didn’t wish to divulge the details in public.

"Joseph, tell the other cartographers that I must excuse myself for the time being." Lao Shu turned to the guard and commanded.

"Do follow me, youngster." Afterward, he told Xu Feng to follow him as he hastened his steps. It was as if he couldn’t wait any longer.

Joseph obliged with the order and returned to the room, much to the disbelief of Vin Chou.

"Who was that youngster?" He asked in a dazed tone.

"Someone sent by Sir Chao." Joseph flatly replied.

"Sir Chao... could it be Chao Shen?" A look of astonishment appeared in Vin Chou’s eyes and he nearly lost his footing.𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Did he really just try to shoo away someone sent by him?

No wonder Joseph was about to tackle him. It wasn’t that Joseph wanted to ruin him, but it was to save his life. After all, if Chao Shen learned of this incident, then one could only imagine what would await him.

"Thank you for saving my life, Joseph." Vin Chou cupped his fist and gave his gratitude.

"No worries." Joseph shook his head and turned his sight to the departing back of Xu Feng. "I would have committed the same mistake if it weren’t for my training and patience."

...

As Lao Shu walked ahead, he inquired softly. "Anyway, how is Chao Shen faring lately?"

"Handsome Chao is faring very well. He’s lying in his comfortable chair and enjoying basking under the sun." Xu Feng responded.

"Is that so?" Lao Shu stroked his beard and nodded.

"The map hasn’t been used for a long time and parts of it were quite old. It can only be used as a reference during your travels." He continued, shifting the topic to the map.

"I understand." Xu Feng naturally knew the map given to him couldn’t be a cheat code. He was most likely going to be assigned to redraw the map during his sea travels.
