Chapter 2063: I’m Sorry For Failing You, My Beloved Child
-----
Beelzebub’s ongoing evolution awakened a new power within him—a space-warping authority that mirrored the very nature of dungeons themselves.
Was it because he had absorbed a dungeon core? It felt as though he were becoming a dungeon, a spirit, and a demon all at once.
Then, as space warped around him, darkness swallowed everything. Countless stars shone brightly in the void.
"This is...?"
His eyes widened once more as a figure appeared before him: a half-spider, half-woman demon.
Beelzebub recognized her instantly. He gasped in disbelief, fell to his knees, and cried without end.
"A-Arachne...?!"
She stood wounded, half her face missing, her body gnawed and torn as if some beast had devoured pieces of her and cast her aside like nothing.
This Arachne burned with resentment.
But not the resentment toward his master that he had expected.
"Master..."
She wept, her single remaining eye shedding tears of blood as she called out to him.
"Arachne..."
Beelzebub approached her slowly. She was no longer the giantess he remembered; she had returned to the small stature of the little arachnoid demon girl he had once saved from a devastated village.
"My little apprentice..."
He still remembered her clearly—trembling and crying inside a burnt house, her little legs broken, one arm missing. A sword had pierced her abdomen, yet she clung to life with stubborn resilience. For days she had starved and bled until his army arrived, searching for survivors.
She was the only one they found.
"Are you okay?"
"..."
Back then, her face showed nothing but complete despair. She had fallen into darkness, and nothing else remained in her heart. She had lost everything and become nothing.
Beelzebub pitied her—he felt for her—because he had suffered the same fate.
"Don’t worry... I will raise you, and I will make sure you are happy..."
Through his own tears, he gently gathered her in his many arms and carried her outside. His army of demons gasped, relieved that at least one soul had survived.
"This is the only survivor..." he sighed. "Let’s return to the capital. She needs urgent care!"
In that moment, Arachne saw the brave face of the ugly fly demon and realized he was not a monster, but something else entirely.
"Arachne... I’m sorry..."
Beelzebub fell to his knees.
Yes. He was finally accepting the truth and casting aside the terrible pride that had consumed him for so many years.
When the time came to stop her, he had rejected that duty. He tried once, then gave up and told Sylphy and the others to simply kill her. He had pretended not to care. He had treated all those demons of the insect tribes—like fodder—after the Evil Gods manipulated them.
"I’m sorry, Arachne...!"
Arachne’s specter stared at him with empty eyes, crying in silence. She could not respond. She was only a lingering shadow, a remnant born of her resentment. Her soul had died long ago.
"It’s all my fault!"
Beelzebub cried, hugging her tightly and sobbing into her shoulder.
"I should have told you I loved you like a daughter..."
"I should have told you that you were my family..."
"I should have tried harder to stop you!"
Arachne’s empty eye slowly turned toward him. Against all odds, her expressionless face began to change.
The mere specter of resentment became something more. The darkness composing her form started to fade, replaced by a brighter, spiritual light.
"Master...?"
"Arachne...!"
Arachne lowered her head, looking sad.
"I’m sorry... I couldn’t avenge you... I couldn’t do anything... It all felt so hopeless in the end. We are nothing but pawns to them... to the gods..."
"My attempt to become like them, so I could avenge you, the king, and everyone I lost... the family I had finally gained after all my suffering... I..."
"That was too heavy a burden for a brat like you, haha..."
Beelzebub laughed softly, hugging her and smiling through his tears.
"You should have run away with the survivors and lived peacefully, away from danger, instead of rushing into it and letting yourself be manipulated..."
"But that was also my fault. I did this..."
"I know I cannot change the past. There is nothing I can do now to amend what I’ve done."
Arachne lifted her head and watched as Beelzebub’s body evolved rapidly. He grew taller, more humanoid, and stood upright. His form as a giant fly transformed dramatically. Her eye sparkled as she glimpsed what he truly was.
"But I will make it right. With all my soul, with all my heart, with everything I am and will ever be... I will protect our kin. I will never let what happened to us happen again."
"Master..."
"I will break this cycle with her. And against all odds, we will win!"
"But... Lolth... she’s a monster!"
"I know she’s a monster, and I know her power... but so what?!"
"I will attain the power of the gods themselves—no, I will surpass it! Because I now have an incredible master. Her power surpasses everything else. Her strength never stops growing, and she never gives up, even when torn to pieces. She is the most stubborn person on this damn planet!"
Arachne’s mouth opened in awe as a giant silhouette of light, flames, trees, and countless other elements surged behind Beelzebub. It gazed at her with a kind smile.
Even after her tragic end, she had risen again—to smile, to ensure this child could finally pass on in peace.
"So please, rest in peace, my beloved child," Beelzebub said. "I will build a world where demon children never cry again."
Arachne smiled faintly as he wiped her tears and patted her head.
"Okay!"
She nodded, her form slowly dissolving into particles of light.
"Uncle... I’m leaving you the last fragment of my strength... Please, never give up! You have to do it... You have to defeat Lolth!"
"I will."
Arachne’s small hand reached out one last time, gently touching Beelzebub’s cheek. Her fingers felt warm, almost alive, before they scattered into shimmering particles.
"Thank you... Uncle."
With those final words, her form dissolved completely. The last traces of her resentment melted away, replaced by pure, gentle light that flowed into Beelzebub’s chest.
He remained on his knees for a long moment, eyes closed, letting the warmth spread through him. The fragment of her strength merged with his evolving body, quiet yet profound. It carried her memories, her pain, and her final wish.
