Chapter 1814: Khepri And Tethys
Chapter 1814: Khepri And Tethys
—–
“What we’re facing is beyond our imagination. The fourth member of our group has already sunk into a dark abyss, one we cannot help her from,” Khepri said, making Tethys feel confused.
“…?!”
“Her power has already reached the level of a God.”
“Impossible… Not even I have—”
“But she did. Even the heroes and their daughter are struggling. Your element is the key. It is special and powerful against her, even in her newest ascended form. She just ascended, so there must still be weaknesses we can exploit! And your element could be the key!”
“You want me to help again? I did everything I could!”
“No, you didn’t, Tethys. I know you have the ornaments with you and that you haven’t used them yet. If you did, you could gain enough power to help us a lot. With you, the entire tide of the battle could change. Please, Tethys, help us.”
“I-I can’t…! No, there’s no way I’ll do that…! I-I…!”
“But Tethys, what if everyone dies? What if we fail? What will happen to your Oasis? To your people? Everyone will die… everyone! And once we die and she comes after you, you alone won’t be enough to stop her.”
“…”
Tethys remained silent, shocked that she couldn’t refute Khepri’s words. Despite how much she hated her, she couldn’t help but agree with her. A moment of hesitation would doom everyone and everything she had built.
But at the same time, she was afraid, too afraid. Of everything, of all of this. She didn’t want it, but she didn’t want to die either nor did she want to see everything she built die.
“Tethys, I know why you feel the way you do. The trauma of our tragedy still lingers within you. But let me tell you something. You’ve always been a kindhearted person, someone who always did what was right, and I know that you will do the right thing.”
“…”
“So please, Tethys, if you cannot do this alone, then let me help you. Please, let me give you a hand. Even if you hate me, trust me just this once. Then later, I swear to everything that I will never speak to you nor even look at your Oasis. I’ll disappear forever. But please, please, Tethys, I don’t want to lose them, these children, these people who have given me a new reason to live. Please, Tethys, please! I’m begging you, Tethys. I’ll even destroy my very soul for you to agree. I’ll give you my life, my power, so you can ascend later. I’ll kill myself even! But please, please, please, Tethys!”
Khepri kept begging. She truly was desperate, disregarding her own life, everything, just for Tethys to help her. At some point, Tethys grew shocked and saddened that Khepri, someone who seemed so proud and cocky, would say such things, all because of how desperate she was.
“Stop it. I would never ask you to go so far, Khepri.”
“T-Tethys?!”
“You’re right. If I don’t do it right now, it’ll be too late afterward.”
“Then…?”
“I’ll do this, not for you, but for my people, and Agua, and perhaps for all of us.”
“For us? For all four of us, right?”
“Yes…”
RUMBLE!
The Oasis People watched their Oasis tremble out of nowhere as three giant azure-colored metallic cubes floated into the skies, rapidly transforming into giant mechanical pieces of equipment.
A long azure-colored fish-like tail, a giant azure crown with sapphire jewels embedded in it, and lastly, a massive mechanical trident of blue and gold.
“What’s that?!”
“Divine Relics?!”
“This presence…! Chief! It’s the Great Oasis Spirit!”
“What’s happening?!”
The chief was called, running out of her house to see what was happening, as water and divine spiritual energies gathered around all three mechanical pieces, fusing with them and combining into a giant mermaid-shaped machine.
With long hair made of water, sharp sapphire eyes, a long mechanical fish-like tail with azure steel scales and fins, beautiful silver steel gills, and a powerful mechanical trident weapon, all overflowing with immense power.
It was her, their Great Oasis Spirit, finally stepping up to fight for them.
“Pray, my children, pray. I will go and fight the greatest calamity this land has ever seen. So I ask you to pray for me. Each prayer will give me a bit of your strength. That is all I ask for.”
“Everyone! Pray right now!” the chief cried, as everyone nodded.
Her words reverberated through the entire Oasis, as the people, in awe, began to pray, prostrating themselves on the ground, realizing this was all they could do.
Each prayer turned into a tiny spark of blue light, flying toward her and empowering her even a little bit, but because there were hundreds at a time, her power rose higher and higher.
Mana also flowed from the Oasis. Every single animal and monster gave her a piece of their own Mana, and even down there, in the Dungeon itself, she was draining Mana from its vast, endless reserves.
“Khepri, I am only asking you one thing,” Tethys said, as she prepared to move to the Divine Realm using Agua as her medium and vessel.
“Yes?” Khepri asked. “Anything…”
“I’ve now regained all my memories, and surely, you know too…” Tethys sighed.
“I know what?” Khepri was confused.
“Don’t act dumb!” Tethys grew embarrassed.
“…” Khepri remained silent. “Okay, if we win, then I’ll do anything you want anyway.”
“I don’t want you to do anything I want,” Tethys sighed. “I simply want… I…”
“I get it, I get it,” Khepri sighed. “Despite how you act, I know how you feel about me, and I do also feel the same. It’s weird though, right? We were artificial beings made by the Gods. To develop these feelings for one another surely went against the protocol.”
“Yeah…” Tethys muttered. “Then maybe it’s…”
“But that doesn’t matter!” Khepri said. “In this entire time I’ve spent with these humans, I’ve learned a lot of new things! And love, I want to try it. And it wouldn’t be anybody but you, Tethys.”
“K-Khepri…” Tethys muttered, finally showing her true self. “Thanks for insisting so much. I’m such an idiot sometimes. I’m sorry.”
