Chapter 1767: What Is Inside Quetz’s Soul?
Chapter 1767: What Is Inside Quetz’s Soul?
—–
After Silvia noticed Khepri staring at the Oasis for a while, she quickly went to talk with her spirit and friend. In the end, she easily figured out that Khepri’s worried expression while looking at the Oasis was because of the Great Spirit living within it.
“Did you get to talk with her?” Silvia asked, catching Khepri off-guard.
“Ugh, yeah… But it didn’t go well, she rejected me and just escaped once I tried to get closer… Damn it!” Khepri sighed and then groaned angrily. “Why is she like that?! I even tried helping her regain some of her memories, but maybe they were too blurry or something? I don’t know.”
“What, really? Damn…” Silvia said, her expression turning worried. “I’m sorry… I guess she really doesn’t want to help… Even though this should also concern her, it’s a matter of the entire Oasis’ safety after all! What’s wrong with her? Shouldn’t she think about the Oasis People at least?”
“Yeah, I know…” Khepri said. “Hmm… If only we could get their ornaments as well, maybe they could all get their memories back, but… I can’t detect those that aren’t mine. Maybe if she could obtain hers and go back to how she was, we could be friends again and she would help us out…”
“That’s a pity, that you can’t find them and all…” Silvia sighed. “But you did what you could, Khepri! Don’t feel down. Sometimes there are things we simply can’t do. Even if we try really hard, sometimes they depend on other people to make the decision themselves. Forcing things on others is never a good thing, you know?”
“Yeah, yeah… I’ll let that be. Not like we’re missing on fighting strength. Aquarina and her parents should do most of the work anyway! Perhaps we should just kick back and relax while we see the show?” Khepri got a bit arrogant.
“Eh?! Don’t be so confident! We don’t truly know what we might fight! Also, I am not going to stand behind doing nothing… I’ll work on my own and do whatever I can to help Aquarina and everyone else!” Silvia said. “And YOU are also helping!”
“Eeeh, you’re such a workaholic, Silvia…” Khepri sighed. “When we made a contract and I saw a few of your memories, you’ve always been quite the lazy girl, haven’t you? If you weren’t forced by your parents to do all that training, you wouldn’t even be Tier 7… Just what changed that you’ve become so hard-working?”
“Uuuhh…” Silvia fell silent for a moment, looking at Aquarina and the rest of her friends talking while walking along the road leading to the peak of the cliffs. “Maybe… Maybe on my own I wouldn’t be able to find the strength to do these things, but… Well, with everyone else helping, I was able to kind of find it, the motivation to work hard, I mean.”
“Huh~” Khepri smiled, looking at the rest.
As Silvia and Khepri continued chatting for a few minutes, Silvia suddenly remembered something.
“Hmm, oh! I wonder if Quetz has some ornaments? I mean, if he ate that Great Spirit of the Cliff Winds and all…” Silvia muttered. “Or maybe he didn’t? But if its power is within his soul and something happened there… Do you think we could find them?”
“Wait…” Khepri’s eyes widened, realizing Silvia’s idea wasn’t half bad. “You may be onto something, Silvia! Hey, bird guy! Come here!”
“Huh?” Quetz reacted with a confused expression, staring back at Khepri. “Bird guy…? I have a name.”
“Okay, okay, just come over here for a minute,” Khepri said.
The entire group stopped walking as they stared at the annoying little spirit.
“Hey, what’s wrong with her now?” Justicio wondered, crossing his arms.
“That Khepri is awfully annoying, isn’t she?” Nepheline complained, resting one hand on her wide hips. “She keeps doing whatever she wants!”
“Come on now, every spirit has their own personality, Nepheline,” Shade said. “I suppose ours happened to be more obedient, but there are always a few that like doing as they please or are unruly. And we can’t do much about that.”
“I sure could do something about that…” Nepheline started cracking her knuckles. “If she starts messing up with our formation or interrupting us mid-fight, then she’s getting a good smacking.”
“Mom, you don’t have to be so aggressive…” Aquarina sighed. “Leave her be, I think she has an idea in mind.”
“For what?” Nepheline asked.
“Just let’s listen to her!” Aquarina said.
“Hmph…” Nepheline was awfully grumpy today, most likely because she was worried about her daughter, Esmeralda, whom she had left behind.
She wanted to return to her newborn baby as soon as possible. The worry made her easily irritated.
“What is it, spirit?” Quetz asked. “We’re in a hurry…”
“I know, I know, just stand right there…” Khepri turned completely ethereal, extending her spirit soul as long threads, touching Quetz’s soul with them.
FLASH!
“T-This is…?!”
For a moment, Khepri felt an immense storm of winds engulf her out of nowhere as she saw the figure of a giant, green-feathered hawk-like bird soar through the skies.
“CRYAAAAAH!”
The mighty roar engulfed her in an endless storm of winds, pushing her back constantly…
“So you’re still not dead…?! But… somehow, you’re the boy’s soul?!”
RUMBLE!
“Ugh…!”
However, before she could continue talking with whatever that was, Khepri returned to reality, disconnecting from Quetz’s soul.
She fell to the ground in a lot of pain.
“Ouch, that hurt!”
“Khepri?!”
Silvia ran to her side to comfort her and feed her Mana, making her feel a bit better.
“I’m… fine…” Khepri sighed. “Ah, but yes, this confirms it! Quetz, you somehow really have the Great Spirit of the Cliff Winds inside your soul. No, it’s more like it really fused with your soul for some reason! I don’t know if this is some sort of parasitizing… Or no, I think it isn’t so simple.”
“H-Huh?” Quetz grew more and more worried. “P-Parasitizing? So the Great Spirit is like a parasite latched onto my soul?”
“No, at some point your soul and its spiritual soul became one,” Khepri said. “Technically, you’ve become its vessel… um, forever.”
“F-Forever?!” Quetz was terrified by learning that. “This is…”
