Chapter 1627 1627: Spirit Fruits
—–
“This is the Spirit Tree forest, welcome everyone.”
Agua walked into the forest with her friends, looking around with a smile.
The forest was composed of beautiful, glistening and semi-transparent trees made out of multiple spiritual crystals merged together.
Aquarina had seen something like this before, although incredibly rare and beautiful, this wasn’t the only one in the world.
Spirit Tree Forests happened in areas with large quantities of Spiritual Energy, such as nearby the ruins of the gods.
There was once a time she, Sylphy, and her friends went to explore one of the ruins near Agartha.
It was surrounded by huge spirit crystals, and as they got closer, there were also many spirit trees everywhere.
It was indeed a magical moment back then, and now it was the same thing too, it has been years since her last time inside one of such marvels of nature.
“Woow…” Silvia muttered. “T-This is insane… they’re all crystals? And trees at the same time? How does that even work?”
“I-I am not even sure myself…” Agua was also taken aback by its beauty and brightness. “But I think they aren’t technically plants like we know them, but a species of crystal colony that take upon the shape of trees.”
“But then why does it produce fruits?” Justicio asked.
“I don’t know…” Agua said. “Well… Mom said that it is a gift to the people that protects the forest… But I’ve thought that it might also be a way to release the excess spirit energy.”
“Maybe both,” Pyuku smiled, as he looked around. “I wonder where the fruits are though?”
“They should be nearby… No monsters come to eat them,” Agua said.
“Why’s that?” Aquarina asked, as she made her way into the forest with her friends.
“Well, mostly because it might be toxic to them, not every monster is adapted to spirit energy,” Agua explained. “We’ve seen some try to eat one and die instantly and then spirit crystals grow out of their corpses…”
“Woah, the intensity of energy is so big it kills things that eat them? then what guarantees we’ll survive?!” Silvia began panicking.
“Anybody that has contracted a spirit should be capable enough to eat one at least,” Agua said. “But more than one could prove to be also fatal, your stomach might begin growing spirit crystals and they’ll destroy your insides… it’s very painful, it happened to someone once. They’re alive, but… yeah, you don’t want to know what they went through to get the crystals out.”
“W-We sure don’t…” Silvia nodded, looking a bit scared. “Uuuh, maybe I’ll pass for now…”
“Aw come on, it won’t kill you, relax!” Aquarina laughed, patting her shoulders. “You’ll be fine, your spirit energy is pretty big.”
“Yeah! I can attest everyone should survive a fruit… Aquarina could eat two!” Agua said.
“Really? Thanks a lot for that!” Aquarina smiled. “I’ll make sure to gift you something back as a thanks, Agua.” She patted her silky haired head.
“I-It’s nothing, you don’t have to…” Agua blushed a bit, feeling embarrassed.
As they conversed while making their way through the forest and admiring its beauty, Pyuku called them.
“Hey! I found them! There’s a bunch in this tree!”
Everyone quickly followed his voice, finding a tree larger than the rest, at least thrice as big. It had roughly eight fruits on it.
The fruits themselves were also beautiful, resembling pears made out of rainbow crystal, but according to Agua, the crystal was more like soft caramel-like or jelly-like pulp.
“Alright… You can grab your own then,” Agua smiled. “Our tribe wants to thank you for your contributions to the investigation of the dungeon and also for taking down dangerous monsters that could prove to be a danger to our village, this is our reward.”
“Thank you!” Silvia smiled. “Woah, they’re so pretty! Do I have to eat it? I kind of want to keep it in my room instead…”
“It sure is beautiful… it would feel like eating fine jewelry…” Justicio muttered, swallowing saliva. “It smells… sweet? Kind of citric.”
“Cronch…” Aquarina, meanwhile, already took a big bite out of one, as everyone glared at her with a bit of disbelief. “What?”
She asked them what they were looking at, while being in the middle of munching on the fruit.
“Ooh, it’s sweet like a caramel! Wow… I can feel several fruit flavors on this… Orange… apple! Pineapple and… hmm, melon? Kind of like melon and watermelon. Try it out already! It’s good!”
“O-Okay!” Silvia gulped nervously, looking at the fruit while her lips trembled. “H-Here goes nothing!”
“Alright!” Justicio nodded.
The two munched on the fruit almost at the same time, their eyes opening wide after the fruit’s juices filled their mouth, and then the delicious jelly-like pulp.
“SO GOOD!”
The two were completely synchronized, as it sometimes happened, screaming at the same time at the top of their lungs.
“Crunch, crunch, crunch!”
The trio started eating their fruits frenetically, in just five seconds, the fruits in their hands were gone, and they remained there in silence, almost addicted to the flavor, licking their lips.
“Aaah! That was so good! I can’t have another?!” Silvia asked. After acting all scared, she wanted to risk eating another!
“I-I need another too… Maybe if we make it into a juice or a smoothie… Perhaps some other sweet!” Said Justicio. He looked almost like a crazy addict.
“No is no, more and you might get sick,” Agua said. “Aquarina can have a second though, she has such a high amount of spirit power in comparison to you two… here.”
“Oh! Thank you,” Aquarina nodded, as she smiled at her friends, as if mocking them.
At the same time, Pyuku picked a fruit and smelled it, before eating it whole.
“GULP…” The fruit instantly dissipated. “Hm? I barely feel anything different on me…”
“Ah, maybe it has to do with your biology or something, Pyuku,” sighed Agua. “I’m sorry… I didn’t know it wouldn’t affect some people.”
“Ah, it’s fine,” Pyuku shrugged. “It was delicious anyway.”
As this happened, Aquarina finished eating her second fruit, feeling an immense quantity of rainbow-colored spirit energy gathering inside of her body.
FLUOSH!
“Ohh! I feel stronger!”
