Vol. 13 - Ch. 734 - Battle Against Fairy Queen
Reader survey
«Nooo! What did you do to my cute subordinates?! Prepare for the retribution!»
The «Fairy Queen» entered Rage mode when it noticed we'd brought down all of its minions. Rage Mode enhances attack by 50%, and increases their attack frequency.
Fairy Queen swung the wooden two-handed staff in her hands, launching a magical attack in Sierra's direction.
"«Aura Point»! «Shield Force»! «Divine Shield»!"
Sierra skillfully manoeuvred her autonomous shields, blocking the incoming attack with her strong defensive skills. With the minions no longer into the play, she made use of her taunt skill, accumulating further aggro. She held her ground perfectly.
As a rare boss that came with its minions—a rare case among rare bosses—it was a tricky boss to deal with, but it also was one of the easiest bosses as long as its minions were taken care of. Without its minions, alone, «Fairy Queen»'s strength was far below other rare bosses.
«Fairy Queen» spammed her magic against Sierra, unleashing various AoE spells. Before long, the Rage Mode approached its end, and we, who had been waiting in the distance for that moment, promptly swooped in.
"Let's bring it down from the high ground first. Lana, go bam!"
"Just leave it to me! «Sacred Shining Saber»!"
«! Kyaa?!»
—BOOM!
It was a clean hit.
Lana's gigantic sword of light slammed into the «Fairy Queen».
Damn, a critical hit. Since when did Lana's aim get so good?!
This move was quite impossible to pull on bosses, they would absolutely evade it, when they’re on the Rage Mode. This was another reason we waited for it to wear off and brought the boss down. Though, landing a critical hit on a flying target from long distance was most impressive. ...Well, it's beside the point that «Shining Sacred Saber» also had a homing function.
Anyway, a direct hit was a good start.
Subsequently, the «Fairy Queen: Season» fell from the sky like a puppet with a cut string, helpless. It promptly came to its senses, and resumed attacking against Sierra, but didn't manage to reach altitude again. The boss was brought to the level we could easily reach with a simple jump.
Karua swooped in as the chance presented itself.
"«Sonic Sword»! «Scale Break»!"
"I'll join in—«Spear Charge»! «Flash Stab»!"
«Agh! How dare you! You're so annoying!»
"Cover, Sierra!»
"«Cover Shield»!"
When the damage from Karua and Ester's attack piled up, «Fairy Queen» opted to use an explosive, AoE attack. However, before it could've struck them, Sierra's small shield put itself between the path.
The small shield off-set the damage, allowing Ester and Karua to remain on their spot without getting blasted.
In other words, it was our chance.
"My turn! «Brave Heart»! «Sonic Sword»! «Brave Slash»!"
«Kyaaa! Noooo!»
I slid forward after buffing myself, and delivered my strike, dealing huge damage. Karua, and Ester, didn't sit around either, and they executed their attack a split second after me.
«Fairy Queen»'s stature was relatively smaller for a boss, which was not an optimal target to hit with multiple members at once, but we'd also been together for so long we could coordinate attacks with closed eyes. We, the vanguard, moved like one mind, never stepping on other's position, or overlapping with their attack.
In the distance, Lana had ceased her ranged attack, switching to buffing and healing instead.
«Y-You've done it now! I'm really angry now!»
"! It's unleashing unique skill! «The Prank of Fairy Queen»! Sierra!"
"«Induction Cover»!"
"Lana, prepare to cleanse negative debuffs!"
"On it!"
I'd merely shouted the warning when a light—no, the flurry of weathers covered before my eyes, dying the whole world in pure white. Not the fairy feathers, but downy feathers.
The feathers were the unique skill of «Fairy Boss». An attack with overwhelming numbers.
Touching these feathers would inflict various debuffs and random status ailments; it was an incredibly dangerous AoE attack. There had even been instances where entire
parties were wiped out by everyone falling into a «Stunned"» state.
Of course, it wasn't without a counter. It wasn't hard to counter with a properly level up «Abnormal Ailments Resistance» skill, or boosting the resistance with magic. It also could be avoided by having a tank pulled in all the feathers toward themselves using defensive skill with traction.
Just before the boss had unleashed its unique skill, Sierra had used «Induction Cover». Immediately, like magnets, the feathers drew toward her.
In itself, this unique skill barely dealt damage, so it wasn't a problem for tanks to do that. However, each feather was a debuff applier itself, and a vast quantity meant even her «Status Ailment Resistance LV10» couldn't completely shrug them off.
Needless to say, she began to be covered with debuffs like «Poison», «Bind», «Paralysis», «Confusion». Though, that's where Lana and I came in.
"«Prayer of Purification»!"
"«Poison» left, huh» «Recovery»!"
"! Thanks. It helped."
"It's a two-way street!"
Lana's cheerful voice rang out. With four status ailments, Lana's «Prayer of Purification LV1» alone wasn't enough, so I followed after her and used «Recovery». With this, she was cleared of status ailments, but not debuff, though.
The debuffs had affected all her stats, except the agility. This, unfortunately, had no cure beside waiting for them to expire naturally.
Still, Sierra saved us from falling prey to it, and we intended to make good use of it.
With every pinch, there's a chance. After a Unique Skill, it's easier to land critical hits and push down to Downed status. While Lana and I were healing Sierra, Karua, the fastest in Eden, had already sliced in.
"«Vitals Stab»! —*Thud*."
«Wha-how?!»
«Fairy Queen»'s scream echoed as Karua with her swift agility plunged her weapon into it.
Heh, so that's the state of boss' mind when we hit them immediately after their activation of a unique skill, huh?
Karua's skill «Vital Stab» had an effective chance to inflict Downed on the target when knocked back, and this applied to bosses when they're still recovering from unique skill as well.
«Fairy Queen» could only scream as she was effortlessly brought down.
"Nice, Karua! The boss is Downed! Commence fire! Just don't bump into each other! «Sonic Sword»! «Lightning Vanquish»!"
"Roger! «Full Throttle Drive»! «Raging Spear War Dance»!"
"I am going to win, and have my curry! «Scale Break»! «64 Force»!"
"Oh? Then I am going to decipher recipes after the win! «Holy Sword»! «Quick Strike»!"
«Nooo!»
With the opportunity, we went all-out on our offence. A pity the boss was too small to get into everyone's target, so the assault was carried only by Karua, Ester, and I. Regardless, we managed to deal serious damage to «Fairy Queen».
After the recovery, «Fairy Queen» continued to bombard Sierra with her magic, and often unleash prey to inflict status ailments. Though Sierra had her stats down due to debuff, Lana's recovery and buff kept Sierra standing as strong as ever.
It activated its unique skill a second time, but we dodged it again. The follow-up counter of Downed and relentless assault brought down the «Fairy Queen» for good this time. «Fairy Queen»'s HP hit the rock bottom, and vanished among the sea of effect.
«You'll pay for this!»
What remained were two gleaming silver chests. What a shame.
"Ah, I forgot to try talking to her."
I thought to myself, but it was too late. I guess I couldn't let my guard down against such a strong rare boss. Oh well, I'll try next time!
As I was thinking that, I felt something in my hand, similar to a coin. Opening my palm, there it was: the Proof of «Four Season Fairy Dungeon». With this, we'd successfully conquered four intermediate-high dungeons!
Just one more and the doors of Advanced-low dungeons would finally be open for us!
After that, we dedicated ourselves to farming the rare boss for as long as we had the me. I immediately tried talking to her in that attempt, but it was a failure. I couldn't talk with her.
Surprisingly, fairies speak and react to our actions, so I just kind of understood that they don't react to words, which was incomprehensible itself to be honest.
Despite their ability to talk, we're completely ignored. Hmm, it's so tricky.
Regardless, I managed to satisfy my curiosity, so all was good!
We hit the teleportation circle when the clock struck evening, and paid Marie-senpai a visit, like usual.
At long last, it was time to decipher the recipes!
