Chapter 772 - 772: “Is this an Isekai or something?”

Unnamed Forest

November 4th

Year 1054

A lone teenager strutted through the lonely concrete road of this forest, his full attention on the magazine in his hands.

He had brown hair and eyes and looked like the average guy you could find anywhere on the street.

“KYAAA!!!”

Suddenly, a scream pierced through the tranquil air and hearing this, he stopped in his tracks and looked up from his magazine.

His gaze turned, not in the direction of the scream, but to the side, at the lamp post beside him.

There were two lamp holders on it, one at the top of the pole and one on the floor beside his feet. The one on the floor, however, was broken.

Not just that one, but the next two were broken as well.

“That’s three barrier stones broken. Looks like the people responsible for maintaining security here are slacking.”

These lamps did not just emit light, but also served as nodes for a barrier which prevented monsters from entering the road.

Or rather, emitting light was simply their secondary effect.

But with three broken, a sufficiently intelligent monster could easily slip through the barrier cracks.

“And if it is the kind with minions, we arrive at this scene.”

The boy spoke as he glanced at the scene before him, where a carriage convoy was being attacked by monsters.

“What are the odds that I’d encounter a Princess’ carriage being attacked? Is this an Isekai or something?”

After a moment, he placed a hand on his chin and thought.

“Oh, wait…this is an Isekai…”

With those words, he closed the magazine and folded it. He put it into his back pocket before casually walking forward where the Knights were facing off against the giant Trolls.

These ugly hulking masses of monstrous power wielded entire trees as weapons, with each strike of theirs causing the ground to tremble. Their ridiculous strength was far too great for the Knights to contest with.

‘They’re grandmasters…’

As he had those thoughts, he walked into the fray casually, with neither side noticing his presence.

He glanced at the princess inside the carriage surrounded by three mages and then looked around once more.

The knights, clad in gleaming armour, held their ground with unwavering determination, their swords clashing against the trolls’ crude weapons. Spells crackled through the air as the mages cast protective barriers and offensive spells, their hands weaving intricate patterns of magic to fend off the onslaught.

Despite their valiant efforts, the trolls’ brute strength and relentless assault pushed the guards to their limits, and their formation began to falter under the relentless pressure.

Seeing they were on the verge of losing, the boy shrugged before walking up to the strongest of the Trolls, which was also the biggest and then placing his palm on the monster’s leg.

‘Permeating Wave.’

As the boy’s palm touched the troll’s leg, a subtle vibration spread through its body. The Permeating Wave skill sent destructive energy deep into the troll, causing its bones to shatter and organs to rupture.

[GRAAOOORRRR!!!!]

The troll’s roar of pain echoed across the battlefield as blood seeped from its eyes. Convulsing violently, it vomited a torrent of blood before collapsing with a heavy thud.

“…what?”

The Knights fighting the Troll let out dumbfounded noises as they saw the life draining from its eyes as its body lay still.

In fact, the whole area went silent for a brief moment, the other combatants momentarily stunned by the swift and brutal demise of the strongest troll.

With this action, they all took notice of the boy’s existence and stared at him with shock.

The boy ignored this and turned to face the other trolls, before gesturing with three fingers.

“Um…Pierce Guard, Adamantine Might and…Elemental Skewer?”

Each name he called was that of a skill, and their effects were shown in the next moment as spears of icy light emerged from the ground and impaled all the trolls in the area.

They screamed out in pain as the icy spears spread their freezing power around the monsters’ bodies in an instant, turning them into frozen ice sculptures.

*SNAP!

The boy snapped his fingers and the cracks spread out from the ice, before shattering to pieces along with the bodies of the trolls.

“Didn’t get even a single level, huh?”

Despite having just wiped out a group of Level 300 monsters, the boy didn’t seem to consider it anything noteworthy.

He turned around and began walking away from the scene, pulling out his magazine and perusing through it while the knights and mages watched dumbfoundedly.

Finally, their leader snapped out of his shock and called out to the boy.

“W-wait!”

“Hmm? Is there a problem?”

“..problem? N-no, there’s none…?”

“That so? Then why did you call me?”

Everyone present gave the boy strange gazes, looking at him like he was strange but he just returned their looks silently.

“Wha-Your Highness!”

“Your Highness, please remain inside! There may be more monsters nearby!”

Everyone’s attention was turned towards the Princess who stepped out of the carriage, with the knights urging her to get back in for her safety. Some of them even moved to block her path and this made her frown.

“Stand down.”

She commanded with a calm and authoritative voice, before walking up to the boy who had just saved them and bowed lightly.

Ignoring the commotion from her knights talking about how ‘Royalty shouldn’t bow’, she spoke.

“Thank you for saving our lives. I would like to repay you for this if it’s not a bother.”

The boy just gazed at the green-eyed teenager in silence for a few seconds before speaking.

“Princess of Wechil.”

“You recognize me?”

The Princess reacted with surprise, but the boy shrugged casually and said it was ‘nothing much’. He turned to leave, but suddenly stopped and asked.

“Actually, can you take me along in your carriage as repayment?”

The Princess hesitated, not because she was opposed to it, but for another reason.

“It feels like too little, but… I agree.”

Hearing her words, her maids and Knights didn’t waste a second to protest against this.

“Your Highness, you should not stay with an unknown person for your safety!”

Upon hearing their words, the Princess gave them an incredulous look. Her authoritative gaze made them instinctively step back and she sighed before pointing at the dead troll spilling blood from his mouth.

“That was a Level 320 monster.

This boy killed it—a monster with the durability to tank an explosion that can destroy a small city—with a single, unexplained strike.

His level must be at least twice that of the monster. It matters not if he’s in my carriage or another; he’s capable of killing us all before we can react.”

With those words, she walked back to her carriage and re-entered it, before offering the boy a seat inside.

Seeing this, the boy laughed aloud before joining her inside.

Like so, the carriage convoy resumed their journey after disposing of the Troll’s corpse and taking its ears as proof of its existence.

They intended to lodge and complaint at the nearby administration and complain that the roads which were not maintained safely caused a Princess to be attacked.

Noticing their intent, the boy thought.

‘That’d save me the effort.’

Nearly an hour later, they arrived at Kasteblum’s borders, but just before they could undergo an inspection, there was a sudden commotion.

A Trio of Dark-Blue-Robed Mages hovering in the sky descended, and the common people all looked on in awe at the sight of these rare Grand Mages.

In Kasteblum, there were ranks to Grand Mages and they could be differentiated by the colours of their robes.

Green Robes were Level 400s.

Red Robes were Level 500s.

Blue Robes were Level 600s.

The adventurers who had travelled from all over to enter Kasteblum’s dungeons which gave double EXP and had more discerning eyes could tell that these Dark-Blue Robes were all above Level 700!

This meant they were ‘Living Legends!’

People wondered why these Living Legends had come here, and they watched as the three of them walked towards the Princess of Wechil’s Carriage before speaking.

“Greetings, Your Highness.

Greetings, Count Bourne. We were sent by the Chief Grand Magus to receive you.”

“?”

“…count Bourne?”

The Knights of Wechil were naturally confused as to why the Grand Mages were asking for a Count when there was no one like that with them.

However, the Princess and her maids inside the carriage had their eyes widen in shock as the brown-haired boy who was busy reading a Magazine suddenly underwent a transformation.

Before their eyes, his face morphed into that of someone else’s—one they instantly recognized.

The boy, now with Black hair and grey eyes, gave them a light smile before opening the doors and jumping out of the carriage.

“Hey, how’d you guys figure I was here?”

He casually addressed the Grand Mages and the one at the forefront held up an emblem before replying.

“The Grand Magus’ Emblem with you, Count.”

“Oh…

True, I didn’t put that in my inventory.”

The boy dipped a hand into his pocket and retrieved a similar emblem, noticing there was some sort of resonance between the two.

He then turned towards the dumbfounded auburn-haired Princess who was still seated in her carriage and spoke.

“Dear Princess Arlene, mind telling your father about our little run-in with the monsters earlier?

Tell him he shouldn’t give David a hard time about the Island in Sushye. He’d understand.”

In other words; ‘I saved your daughter’s life, so don’t disturb us about destroying your Island again.’

With those words, the boy—the ‘Irregular Hero’ Evan—waved her goodbye before leaving with the Grand Mages who came to pick him up.
