Reincarnated Hero System

Chapter 768 - 768: A ‘Present’ that would never become a ‘Past’ (Eliza POV)

I mean, he did say that World Laws could restrict him from speaking about the whole Reincarnation shtick.

His expression changed a bit, and I quickly figured he had guessed what thoughts were crossing my mind.

I wasn’t surprised though.

Just as I didn’t need to be in his head to figure out what he was thinking sometimes, the opposite was surely the case as well.

“You’re probably thinking it was a lot easier to get me to talk, right?”

“…”

I didn’t say anything in response, but that was an affirmation in itself.

“I think there’s something you’re not getting here, Liz.

There are two sides to this situation:

On one side is someone whom I haven’t seen in 4 years. Might I add, we parted on horrible terms.

Then there’s you, the person I have feelings for and I’m currently in a relationship with.

I don’t exactly fancy lying to you, which is why I’d rather just not say anything if there’s something I didn’t want you to know.

I also wouldn’t risk pissing you off just to hide information about that person.”

“Even if she’s your Ex?”

My sudden question made Evan’s eyes widen ever so slightly. It was a guess I made, partly a wild one, and partly an intuitive one.

But the pause he took before replying, was all I needed to know I was correct.

Evan gave a wry smile and sighed softly before saying.

“Yes, even if she’s my Ex.”

“…”

“I actually avoided that part of things ‘cus I was worried you might be bothered about it or something.”

Now, it was my turn to be surprised as I certainly didn’t expect that reasoning at all. When I questioned it—

“Why would I be bothered about that?”

“Huh? You’re not?”

—Evan seemed taken aback.

“…”

“…”

We fell into a momentary silence, during which I thought about it and realised why he said I might be bothered.

Some people could be bothered about their current partner’s former relationships. But not me.

“That’s something that happened in the past. A past before I even met you.

It’s happened, and there’s nothing I can do about it.”

I felt my emotions intensify with each word I spoke, not at all bothered that Evan could sense them through our connection.

“I like to focus on the present. The Present, where you’re MINE.

A present that is NEVER going to become a past.”

Evan went silent when he heard my words, and after a moment, he raised his right hand to cover the lower half of his face and looked away.

“Huh? What’s wrong?”

“…nothing, just cuteness overload.”

“…what?”

I could not stop the dumbfounded question that escaped my lips in response to his reply, and he gazed back at me before continuing.

“Possessive Liz is too much…I’m falling in love all over again.”

As much as I wanted to control it, I couldn’t stop the tinge of red that found its way up to my cheeks, a mixture of warmth and embarrassment flooding through me.

“I-I’m not trying to be possessive…No, wait. I AM trying to be.

Why shouldn’t I? I have every right to be…”

Perhaps because of how flustered I felt at that moment, I was stammering a bit and wasn’t even sure of what I was saying anymore.

Evan’s smile softened and he reached out to gently cup my cheek, his touch compelling me to instinctively lean into his hand.

“I thought Gabrielle was a normal human with no sort of Supernatural Powers whatsoever, which was why seeing her here, was a shock.

The fact that the Dungeon chose her, meant she is ridiculously powerful in reality, and that only amplified my already deep shock.

Now, I’m wondering if it wasn’t that magic and the like didn’t exist in her world, but that it existed and was just on a need-to-know basis. She may just happen to be part of that select few, along with some other people who were very close to me.”

I didn’t know who these ‘other people’ that he spoke of were, but the warmth in his eyes when he spoke of them showed just how much he cared about them.

“I’m not going to lie and say I had completely forgotten about her. I’d known her more than half my life, after all.

But our relationship ended on a bad note, and we hadn’t seen each other in years, so I’d relegated all thoughts of her to the deepest recesses of my memory.

Like a book stored in that forgotten corner of the library nobody cares about. It’s there, but you just don’t pay it any mind.”

As he spoke, his other hand moved up to my hair and he softly ran his fingers through it.

“And then there’s Us.

It hasn’t been long since we’d just taken our relationship a step further, and suddenly, a Replica of my Ex showed up in front of me, wielding powers I didn’t even know she had, at such timing.

I felt like it was some sort of bad joke by fate, trying to remind me of a past I had forgotten.

The culmination of all of that—resulted in the intense reaction you witnessed.”

“…”

When he broke it down like that, I could understand why he got all worked up. Rationally I could, but it didn’t mean my emotional side was fine with it though.

“As much as I’d like to say that it wouldn’t happen again, that’s easier said than done.

If she does pop up again in the future, I definitely wouldn’t be as shocked as I was just now. But I’d still be a tad bit surprised, I guess…

Maybe my surprise would decrease over time, maybe not…”

Evan shrugged as he let his words hang, not seeming particularly bothered about the whole situation.

“I get it. And I appreciate the honesty as well.

But seeing as you’re acting all unbothered is kinda making me feel like the weird one here…”

“Oh, no. You’re not.

A Jealous and Possessive Liz is not weird at all, and I’d like to see more of that. The possessive side I mean.”

“What?”

I couldn’t count how many times I’d asked that with a dumbfounded voice. Evan grabbed both my shoulders, looking me dead in the eyes as he said with an uncharacteristically serious voice.

“I’m saying the sight of you displaying your possessive side has the potential to arouse me depending on the situation.”

Evan’s words were so out of pocket that I was genuinely impressed at how he could change the subject of a conversation so casually.

“I never understood why some girls hit their partners in situations like this, but now that I’m feeling sudden the urge to punch you in the stomach, I kinda understand why.”

“What th-?! Why?!”

“Evan, we were having a serious conversation here.”

It was absurd that I had to remind him about the importance of our talk, but what was even more absurd was his reply to my words.

“Well, that’s a serious topic for conversation!”

As I deadpanned him, he let go of my shoulders and continued with his unconventional perspective.

“The same Liz who always keeps her possessive side repressed is now displaying it openly. This should be a news headline.”

“Not in my book, it should!”

“Well, it is in mine.”

I couldn’t hold back my retort and Evan shot back a reply with an amused grin, before turning around and began muttering to himself.

“Today is a day for celebration. Maybe I should break out the red rice. Actually, I should host a party…”

Evan went off into his own little world, thinking about how he could throw a party over something so ridiculous and I couldn’t help but facepalm at this sight.

‘Why can’t my boyfriend be normal?’

A mere second after I asked that question, I realised I may have not fallen for him if he was ‘normal’.

Looking back up to see Evan holding his guild card and searching his registered contacts while muttering something about ‘Party Cake Shops’, I knew I had to stop him or he’d actually throw a party.

With my right arm outstretched, the Memoria came flying back into my grasp and I used the butt of the staff to knock the back of Evan’s head.

“But WHY?!”

“No reason. This is just pure domestic violence.”

Evan was taken aback by my frank reply, and he silently put the guild card away as he spoke.

“Liz, you know it’s a lot scarier when you blatantly admit it like that.”

In response to his words which had a fearful undertone, I nodded in affirmation.

“I know.”

◇ ◇ ◇

My blurry vision cleared up as my eyes fluttered open, along with the realisation that the event I had just dreamed about happened a year ago.

‘Time passes so quickly…’

I pressed my hand to my forehead and looked at the clock which read 6:03, before looking down and seeing Evan still asleep on my lap with his arms wrapped tightly around my waist.

“Time to get up…”

And thus began the struggle for me to get out of Evan’s grip on me like someone was gonna try stealing me away in the middle of the night if he did not hold me so tightly.

Suddenly, I noticed his grip got tighter and instantly, I realised he was awake.

“Evan, you’re awake, aren’t you?”

“…noooo, I’m not awake…”

I sighed softly, removing my hands from his which were tightening around me even more as I declared.

“If you don’t let go of me, no Strawberry pie for you tonight.”

**WHOOSH!!

Faster than I could even blink, the hold on me loosened and Evan was now at the other edge of the king-sized bed.

“Good morning, Liz. Wonderful day it is, don’t you think?”

“…morning to you too, Evan.”

I could feel my eyes rolling at how effective the threat of ‘No Strawberries’ was on him, shaking my head as I got to my feet.

However, I wasn’t even able to take a step forward when Evan grabbed me and pulled me back onto the bed.

“Ev-mmph!”

My lips were quickly silenced by Evan’s as he initiated a deep kiss, igniting a flame of desire within me.

The warmth of the morning sun filtered through the curtains and cast a soft glow upon us as the warmth of Evan’s embrace enveloped me, sending shivers down my spine as I surrendered to the sensation.

‘I think…I wanted to…say something. What…was it?’

Lost in the moment, I ran my fingers through his hair, pulling him closer as our kiss deepened.

Time seemed to stand still as we shared this intimate exchange, our hearts beating in unison, echoing the rhythm of our desires.

How long passed? I don’t know for sure, but Evan eventually broke away from the kiss, with a string of saliva drawing a line between our lips.

I could see my own dishevelled appearance reflected in his eyes, and also in his eyes was the look of desire that he gave me.

Lost in his grey orbs, it took me a moment to realise his hand had slipped in between my thighs.

At that moment, the sunlight coming through the curtains intensified, and the heat seemed to snap me back to my senses.

“W-wait, Evan! It’s morning!”

I quickly tried to dissuade him from what he was aiming for, but the reply he gave halted my movements completely.

“And I have a Morning Wood I’d like to put to good use. What say you?”

“…”

My momentary silence prompted Evan’s lips to curl up into a grin, and I immediately realised he had seen through my thoughts just then.

“You just considered it, didn’t you?”

‘Tsk…’

He wasn’t lying. No way he was gonna miss my gaze moving below his belt and no way he wasn’t gonna know what that meant.

I felt my cheeks grow hot, and in my bid to hide my embarrassment, I proceeded to do something that could be considered even more embarrassing depending on the scenario.

My hands which were previously trying to push Evan away, instead pulled him towards me, planting his face between my breasts.

The walls and doors to our room were soundproof, so the servants did not start the morning hearing loud moans ringing out across the floor.

But from the warm smile the Head Maid gave me when she came to bring in some deliveries that came for Evan, I had a feeling she knew exactly what had just transpired.
