Reincarnated As The Heroes Guide

Chapter 315: Successful Raiders

  • Next Chapter

The Assault Team returned to the city in great spirits, while the news spread through the Giants that two of their strongest factions had been decimated during attacks.

The Frost Giants had been ambushed by the humans while leading the assault on Marimgar, and the Mountain Giants had lost outright to the Trolls. The Giants considered the Mountain Giants basically eliminated at this point, as they did not have a second city, and the Trolls occupied theirs, but the Frost Giants were now the proud owners of a massive pile of rubble.

They did still have their city, the humans didn’t sent a large enough force to occupy it, or even to eliminate the defenders. They had simply done a massive amount of damage, and then left, taunting the Frost Giants with the inability to defend their people.

The Giants would not soon forget this insult, or the fact that the humans were bold enough to even try such a thing in the first place.

But the timing had been impeccable.

Just after their forces had been defeated thousands of kilometres away, when the humans knew that the Frost Giants were at their least capable, with most of their warriors exhausted, they had attacked

And while the Giants abhorred such cowardice, attacking the city when the army was away, they did admit that it was tactically brilliant.

They just didn’t understand how the humans had pulled it off.

Finding their home city was not easy, and getting a force through the mountains, past all the scouts, without being detected days in advance, was supposed to be impossible.

Now, they had reports of the scout line being breached, and the fist ring of scouts killed mere hours before the attack, but none of the others, the ones who had been guarding the accessible passes, had even seen the humans coming.

Mostly because they had not come in that direction, they had come over the mountain where it was sloped enough for speeders to fly over, and went for the city directly from the valley, inside most of their scouts.

"Coordinator, reporting a successful raid. The Frost Giant city is mostly destroyed, and we escaped without taking any casualties.

We’ve got some significant damage to the vehicles for the teams to work on, but we didn’t lose any of them in the assault, so we’re still technically at full operational capacity," Sanchez reported.

"Good work, everyone. Get some rest, you’ve had a long day. There is a quest reward waiting for you as well."

The assault teams looked startled, they didn’t remember a quest.

Kalli had also forgotten to issue one, but the Epic Difficulty quest to kill a thousand was still active, and the System had applied it to the assault team as a single large group, though nobody in the main battle had managed to achieve it.

She really did need to get better about remembering to issue actual quests to back up her instructions.

When there was a quest involved, few would question the need for it, and they would find a way to make sure that it happened in a timely manner. But when it was just an instruction, it was open to discussion.

If she was setting quests for everything that she wanted and needed done, within the limits of what the System would allow her to make quests for, she would save herself so much time.

Plus, the joy on the faces of the returning heroes when they found out that they got an Epic loot box were priceless.

One by one, they claimed their rewards, and began to open them.

A new weapon, a ring that added rifle damage, lacy red panties that granted 100 points of luck.

Reggie stared at his reward with a less than amused expression.

"That is not your colour. I think that we should trade," Yara insisted, holding out her prize.

She had received a {Blanket of Deep Sleep} that put a barrier over you while you were unconscious, and regulated both temperature and air quality. The chances of being attacked in your sleep were low, but never zero, and the extra temperature control was always welcome when taking turns on guard duty.

Reggie looked between the underwear and the blanket. It was clear what the option was, and they were both Epic Grade items.

But somehow it felt like he was getting scammed.

Did he not need the luck more than anyone else in the group? Why did it give him luck on an item that he couldn’t reasonably be expected to use?

That was just completely unfair.

After a moment, one of the female mages opened a belt that also had a hundred luck on it and held it out to Reggie.

"Here, I will trade, since you’re so desperate for the luck. You can wear the belt, and I will get lucky panties that just might help me get a man. Lord knows that you don’t need help in that department. It’s everywhere else that your luck sucks."

"What do you mean? I’m not even looking for a man," Reggie insisted.

Yara sighed and patted him on the shoulder with a sympathetic look. He was still an idiot. But he was her idiot, and everyone knew it.

Including her father, who was silently laughing at the young man’s confusion.

He did take the belt though, and the mage celebrated an addition to her gear that filled a previously unknown equipment slot. As far as she knew, none of the others had found magical underwear, and that was an added layer of bonus on top of your usual set of gear, which the system limited to prevent overlapping effects.

You couldn’t layer two pairs of pants for double bonuses, or a shirt and chest armour. You could put a coat over either, but not a coat and a vest.

It was actually fairly simple to understand, once you were used to it, but it did have its restrictions.

The thing was, nobody actually knew what a hundred points of luck did, in practical terms.

If it was a huge bonus to spell critical chance, everyone would want it. If it was better drop items from the daily loot boxes, that would be huge as well. But until someone had enough of a bonus, there was no way to study it.
