Chapter 242: Finish What You Start

Kalli smiled as she saw the messages. That was what she had been waiting for. Now that she had even more stuff in the store, they would be able to expand the facilities that the city of Marimgar offered.

But more importantly, she now had another set of options to choose from thanks to her class.

Kalli stared at the options. The first one was clearly good. Half off weapons and armour was a huge benefit to them during the last battle. If she could also extend that to either buildings or vehicles, then she could make huge changes to Marimgar’s capacity during the next trial.

However, having advanced buildings available in store would allow them to get products that they had never seen before, and the ability to repair many more of their belongings, using just a bit of mana and the System provided tools.

That was a win, no matter how you looked at it.

And then there were the Lucky Rewards.

If the next trials provided quest completions at anywhere near the rate that the Third Trial did, she would be drowning in random Epic Grade items by the end of the week.

Some of those were bound to be worthwhile.

Again, it was not going to be an easy choice for her, but Kalli still had other things that she had to do. She hadn’t put out the last dungeon from the Second Trial, so they currently had the Rat, Goblin, and Ogre Dungeons active within the Academy.

That covered levels one, three and ten.

Kalli hurried to place the final one on the far side of the Academy compound, so that the four were not in the way of each other, and there would be no mistakes as to which one you entered.

Kalli smiled as she saw the message. As long as they could take boars out of that dungeon, they no longer had to fear running out of meat. Even if it only gave you meat as a drop item from the boars, they would still have more than enough soon.

Assuming that they had time to actually enter, and not just fight constantly.

It might not be perfect, but at least there was an option now, and the heroes would be able to progress relatively smoothly from level one all the way to level eleven or twelve before the Ogre Dungeon became too low level to keep giving them steady progress.

That was enough for Kalli.

Just knowing that they had everything that they needed for the next batch of heroes was enough to put her mind at ease, and the promise of a steady pork supply would improve the mood of everyone else.

Now, she just had to decide what to do with the rest of the rewards, and where the new shops should be placed.

She knew fairly well what the city needed, and that was mostly production and repair facilities for clothing, armour and weapons. They had food storage and production covered with what they already had, but they didn’t have nearly enough new clothing for the residents of the Arks, nor enough armour and weapons for the heroes.

The issue that Kalli had was that she wasn’t sure if anything but the Epic Grade workshop bundles would give them the tools to make advanced weapons.

And even if the workshop did, they still needed someone with the skill to use the machine.

The Tinkers faced the same restriction.

They could run the machines, but they couldn’t just hire anyone they wanted. They had to pick people who had System Skills related to crafting, or they wouldn’t be able to make the machines work at all.

Oddly enough, Kalli could.

Perhaps because she had seen them in her past life? Or because she had administrator privileges. But she could make any of the machines turn on and do their preprogrammed thing, though that wasn’t as effective as having the Tinkers do it.

That would be her first upgrade, then.

The Tinkers’ shop tripled in size, with the new facility adding on to the existing one instead of fully replacing it. Inside, there were automated lines to move products, all sorts of fancy machines and robotic arms to assist them with their work.

The duo and their assistants stopped everything as their workshop suddenly changed, then cheered as they realized everything that an Epic Grade workshop could do.

"Send someone to the Hall of Heroes for materials. We need cloth, monster hide, metals and crystals. Tell the Coordinator that it’s important," Beth shouted at her assistant.

"On my way."

Kalli listened quietly to the request, then turned over enough to fill a transport cart. She didn’t know what they had in mind, but if they needed raw materials, the Tinkers were likely going to be upgrading gear, and not just using mana to repair what was damaged.

Another win for Marimgar.

But before she could properly celebrate the fact that all those common and uncommon grade bodysuits were likely to get an upgrade, another System Message appeared before the city of Marimgar.

{The Fourth Trial will begin at midnight.}

{Trial Quest Issued: [Optimal Living Conditions]} Hard Difficulty. Every increase in the living standards and sustainability of the participants will be judged. Those with a surplus and living conditions at or above their societal level will be awarded extra points during final calculation.

{Warning} Zone Protections have been removed. The Fourth Trial will be completed in a full world setting, with long-distance travel unimpeded.

Kalli smiled. This was going to be fun.

They were going to run into a lot of monsters, there was no doubt about that. But they were finally going to be able to improve the region around Marimgar, and she had a [Terraforming] skill.

But the heroes saw different possibilities.

They now had speeders and heavy speeders. They could travel to search for other survivors who were not doing as well. If they could collect more civilians and heroes, they could not just improve their city’s quality of life, but its population as well.

And, they would be doing humanity a favour at the same time.
