Chapter 207: A Wonderful Day
"How do you not know?" I asked Alicia, who was sitting in front of me.
She shrugged and blinked at me. "I don’t know."
You don’t know?... What a different and clear answer.
I shook my head with a sigh as I noticed the people outside the window beginning to move, announcing the start of the morning and a new school day... Well, I’m not exactly sure about that last part.
It seemed Alicia noticed my gaze and spoke before I could even ask.
"The final exam period is approaching."
I shrugged. It wasn’t that important to me... Even if I got expelled from the Axis, I could manage somehow, though it would be annoying.
But for the others, it would be something catastrophic falling on their heads, especially Kyle.
Well, I don’t think they would expel us over a few exams anyway.
Speaking of that, I think it has been around eight months since I escaped from that laboratory... Time really passes quickly.
I could barely even remember why I joined the Axis. I placed a hand on my chin and muttered, "Why am I here again?"
With everything that happened over the past few hours, it seems I’m starting to develop dementia... Maybe I need some sleep.
Yeah, that would be great.
"So, are you going to keep sitting here?"
Alicia spoke, interrupting my thoughts.
My gaze shifted to her as I smiled in amusement.
"Of course... Why not?"
She raised an eyebrow in what looked like obvious annoyance.
When I saw that, I pushed myself up from the couch, leaving the imprint of my body there after all the hours I had spent sitting on it.
I turned toward the door while waving my hand.
"Good luck... And sorry in advance for the mess I didn’t cause."
I reached the door and opened it before stepping out, leaving Alicia there.
Standing in the small corridor, I had no idea where to go, or at least where to find that old servant.
I rubbed my empty stomach as I walked in silence... Yeah, activating my ability and finding where they were would be easy.
But Alicia’s presence here complicated things.
The stronger a person was, the stronger their soul became... Looking at that kind of soul was like staring directly into the sun. On top of that, there was the pain caused by the intense sensation it produced in my head, making me overlook everything else, as if someone were blasting loud music in a room and expecting me to understand a faint voice.
Well, it was getting better as I climbed the ranks, but not enough.
I went downstairs and headed toward the dining hall where I had left Elliot and Kyle.
I opened the door and looked inside, only to find it empty.
But before I turned to leave, I heard the old man’s aged voice from behind me.
"Are you looking for something, sir?"
The old man stood by the door with his hands behind his back.
I smiled, happy to see him. "Yes, I’m looking for you."
He nodded politely, with excessive respect. "How may I serve you?"
"Where are the others?" I asked.
He replied, "They are resting in rooms on the second floor."
I placed a hand on my stomach, which was nearly growling.
"Is there anything to eat?... I’d really appreciate that, along with a room where I can get some sleep."
I felt like the servant was about to sigh... Maybe because I could have eaten with the others earlier, but didn’t.
But in the end, he replied respectfully.
"Please have a seat. I’ll bring you some food, and afterward I’ll guide you to your room so you can rest."
...
"That was really delicious," I muttered as I felt the lingering sweet taste on my tongue while lying on the soft bed.
It had truly been a long time since I ate like this. Even though monster meat still had its distinctive flavor, I preferred luxurious food... Well, who wouldn’t?
I lay there, feeling the comfortable bed embrace me better than anything I had enjoyed over the past few months.
The window was closed and covered by curtains, making the room almost completely dark.
My head was still full of thoughts, while everything we had experienced over the past few months felt like a distant dream that was beginning to fade away.
Just like sleep was embracing me and causing my consciousness to fade.
...
Inside a luxurious and beautiful room in the first-year dormitory, a girl wearing the academy uniform was preparing for a new day.
Like every elite student, Emeris wore the same black uniform embroidered with gold.
As she looked at herself in the mirror while arranging her silver hair, she noticed the space behind her distort as a certain person appeared.
Of course, it was none other than the vice principal and the person who literally ran the Axis... Alicia.
’Here she is again... How creepy.’
That was what Emeris thought.
Ever since the day she joined the Axis and met Alicia face to face for the first time, she had never been comfortable with her presence, let alone talking to her.
There were no personal reasons or anything like that.
She simply didn’t like her.
Especially that cold and detached attitude... It was annoying in her eyes.
Emeris turned around and greeted the visitor.
"Good morning, Vice Principal... This is certainly a surprising appearance, and in my bedroom of all places."
’Oh... You’re not that type, right?’
Emeris was about to say that, but stopped herself at the last moment.
Alicia stared at the annoying girl before her, unconcerned with what she was saying, while her cold voice echoed through the room.
"You know why I’m here."
Emeris smiled and placed a finger on her lips as if pondering something amusing.
"Let me guess. Is it because five people who had been missing for months suddenly appeared in my room... Or were there six?"
Alicia did not answer, but Emeris continued as though she wanted this meeting to end as quickly as possible.
"You want me to stay quiet about them appearing in the room and pretend nothing happened... Fine, I will. I wasn’t planning to talk about it anyway."
"Maybe if you hadn’t come today, I would’ve mistaken what happened yesterday for some strange dream... So..."
Alicia raised a hand and rubbed her temple, letting out a sigh.
"I’ll overlook this behavior and leave the matter here since you understand."
Her tone turned colder and more threatening.
"But let this be clear... Talking about it will have serious consequences."
Emeris smiled and nodded, ignoring the chill she felt at that moment.
"Yes, Vice Principal."
Alicia nodded before disappearing from the room, leaving Emeris alone.
The smile on her face widened.
"What a wonderful day."
