Chapter 205: Now You Look Better
Alicia climbed the stairs and disappeared from our sight, leaving us with this old servant.
He didn’t ask or inquire about anything. Instead, he immediately started doing his job.
He approached us, sweeping his eyes over us from behind his rectangular glasses before his old, formal voice echoed out.
"Welcome back, young masters and ladies... It doesn’t seem like you’re very comfortable in that condition, so allow me to guide you somewhere you can clean yourselves up while I bring some suitable clothes."
Leona nodded politely. "Yes, please."
The old servant gestured for us to follow him as he walked. "While you’re cleaning yourselves up, I’ll see what I can prepare for a late dinner, and I’ll request a trustworthy healer as soon as possible."
...
Warm water flowed over my head as steam rose and filled my vision.
The sound of water falling over me echoed as it washed the dirt from my body.
I looked at my wrist where the small tattoo remained... a collection of small interlocked squares.
I ran my other hand over it as I muttered, "Should I just tell her?"
It was fortunate that Alicia was the first one to find us after our arrival... or the second, but that was still very fortunate and would make things much less complicated for us, especially for me.
I still needed to warn the others about a few things so they wouldn’t blurt them out immediately. Although I thought they were smart enough to know that, I still wanted to make sure...
After thoroughly cleaning myself, I stepped out from beneath the water and dried myself with a towel before glancing at my face in the mirror.
My hair wasn’t very long since I cut it occasionally, but it still looked a little messy because... well, I’m not very good at cutting it, especially while using weapons.
I looked away from my reflection as I put on some of the clothes the servant had brought earlier... just a pair of black trousers and a white shirt.
I don’t know why, but this made me feel like we were a group of hungry orphans picked up from the street and taken in by a noble family.
Soon, I stepped out into the corridor where I found both Kyle and Elliot waiting after finishing their baths and changing out of their torn clothes.
I raised an eyebrow at the two of them as I looked at their new appearance. "Good, you’re both here."
The servant had asked us to head to the hall after finishing washing up and changing while he prepared something else for us... and it seemed the girls would take longer than that.
Kyle pushed himself away from the wall he had been leaning against, and our gazes met. "So, you want us to hide the part about you reading that language and the gate?"
I smiled because he understood immediately. "Yeah... I don’t think I need to explain that."
I glanced at Elliot, who shrugged when he saw me looking. "I know... you don’t need to tell me."
"Then let’s go." I said that as I started walking down the corridor.
The three of us walked quietly until I spoke. "I think Alicia will tell you this later, but don’t say anything about everything that happened... and I’ll repeat this again, especially regarding what I told you inside the ruins... whatever you do, don’t..."
"We got it... so please stop." Elliot interrupted me.
I gave him a serious look before sighing. "Haa... I hope you really do."
He looked at me while rubbing his chin. "Come to think of it, do you really have a good relationship with the Vice Director?"
Why did that question sound like it had thorns hidden inside it?
I shrugged and diverted the topic. "Aren’t you the Duke’s son? Shouldn’t all of you know each other anyway?"
Elliot shook his head while Kyle remained silent. "No, she’s a very reclusive person and doesn’t care much about political relationships... well, maybe she doesn’t need to."
We fell silent as we arrived at what seemed to be a dining room, where the old servant had asked us to gather. He was placing several dishes on the wooden table.
He noticed our arrival, and his eyes moved toward us. "I hope the clothes I brought fit you properly."
Kyle nodded while Elliot replied, "Yeah, they’re good."
I looked around the room before asking him, "Are you the only servant here?"
"Yes, there are cooks and cleaners as well, but they only come at certain times."
He gestured toward the table. "Please, have a seat... I’ll finish preparing everything by the time your companions arrive."
Both Elliot and Kyle stepped forward, pulled out chairs, and sat down at the table, their eyes fixed on the delicious dishes with obvious hunger... It had truly been a long time since we had seen something like this.
But I didn’t follow them. Instead, I asked the servant, "Where is Alicia?"
He looked at me silently for a few moments... perhaps he was bothered that I addressed her by name directly, but I didn’t care because he soon pointed toward a door. "Please allow me to guide you to her."
I nodded, letting the old man lead the way while the other two remained behind.
We walked through the small mansion and climbed to the second floor in silence until he stopped in front of a double door. He knocked gently and called out in his aged voice, "Lady Alicia, Master Caius is here."
The next moment, the familiar voice came from inside. "Let him in."
The servant extended his hand and opened the door, revealing a large study filled with bookshelves and sofas.
The old man stepped aside, allowing me to enter before closing the door behind me.
There, Alicia was seated on a sofa, focused on the phone in her hand.
Seeing that, I walked toward the sofa opposite hers while noticing the clock hanging on the wall, its hands pointing to three in the morning... It was truly late.
I reached the sofa across from her and sat down, waiting for her to finish whatever she was doing... I didn’t think she was browsing social media or anything like that, so it was probably something important.... Maybe.
Soon, she turned it off and placed it on the table before her crimson eyes swept across me from head to toe as she nodded in satisfaction. "Now you look better."
I was slightly surprised, but before I could say anything, she continued.
"And it seems you’ve changed a little."
