Chapter 1873: Forgath

Chapter 1873: Forgath

“I’ll call you back.”

Ning ended the call and immediately turned into a bat, flying through the sky as he went about finding the red car again. It took him a while before he found it in front of a red light, waiting.

Ning landed on a building nearby, his ear focusing on the voice within the car. He could barely isolate the voice there and hear what they were saying.

“You have to help me,” the voice said. “He came for me. Why didn’t you say he would?”

Ning’s eyes widened. “That sly bastard. He nearly had me fooled.”

“No, I didn’t. Yes. I told him I was paid. 12 thousand, as you said. Yes, that would be helpful. Thank you.”

Ning couldn’t hear what was being said on the other side, but what he heard was more than enough to know that he had been properly played by the gnome. That damn man hadn’t been bought off at all. He was simply acting the part.

He also seemed to have a direct communication to the other person, which Ning had been looking for all this time.

’Follow the Red Herring, and you’ll find him. Keira was right.’

She had also said that he would never be alone. So, Ning could only wonder what he was getting himself into now. What friends would the other guy have?

’I should’ve realized earlier that he wasn’t under the effect of any power,’ Ning thought. ’There was no way for someone to be under a power while inside a suppression field. It didn’t even cross my mind.’

He needed to get more used to his life as a superhero and how suppression worked.

Ning followed the red herring around for a little longer before it arrived at a suburban location, turning into a driveway. As he did, Ning was there before the garage door, waiting for the man to get out.

The man watched in abject horror at seeing Ning, not knowing what he could do at all. Without thought, he slammed onto the accelerator and drove into Ning.

Ning simply lifted one leg up, and the car crumpled around his foot like it had hit a telephone pole. The gnome slammed into the steering wheel, the airbag saving his head at the last moment.

The noise was enough to arouse the neighbors, so Ning quickly walked by the window and grabbed the gnome’s phone before escaping from the location. He flew a long distance away before he opened the phone and found it password protected.

Ning waited for a moment, thinking of whether he should get Mira to crack the passcode and whatnot. He didn’t have the time.

“What’s the code?” he asked.

<874887>

Ning unlocked the phone and went into call history. That last call was to a number that wasn’t saved on the phone at all. He called Mira again.

“Hey, can you help me find some information about a number for me? I’m sending it now.”

“Okay!”

Mira got onto the task, and not even 5 minutes later, a call was returned.

“The number is registered to one Jolly Savant. She’s a 43-year-old Dragonborn, currently living in the city of Mes Logas.”

Ning narrowed. “Who is she?”

“Uhh… let me search for— oh. OH.”

“What?”

“She’s the direct assistant to one of the richest men on the planet. Forgath.”

Ning narrowed his eyes. He knew that name, but he wasn’t sure why. Considering how rich the man was, he had to be an owner or CEO of something big. “What does he do exactly?”

“You don’t know Forgath?” Mira asked in an astonished tone. “He is one of the greatest technological minds of today’s day and age. He is responsible for creating a technology about chipsets that is found in almost every piece of technology around these days.”

“He made his fortune that way and now owns several companies.”

“Okay,” Ning said. “What connection does he or this Jolly woman have with a news anchor from an entirely different city?”

“That I do not know. They don’t even live in the same— oh.”

“Go on.”

“Two Sun Media group. Forgath owns it.”

“The same group that the gnome works for. That’s a great find, Mira. Any chance you can tell me where I can find this Forgath too?”

“I’m not sure,” Mira said, typing away on her computer. “He’s an important man, so it will be difficult to find where he is. Or… maybe not.”

Ning waited for her to continue.

“His private jet landed here 5 days ago and has been staying here ever since.”

Ning paused for a moment. “5 days. You’re certain?”

“Yes. Why?”

Ning sighed. “Because that’s when this whole thing started. 5 days ago, with the poison at the hotel.”

He was finally getting somewhere now. “Can you help me find out where he is staying?”

“Already done. He’s at a fundraiser right now. I’ll send you the location. Do you want to visit him?” she asked.

“I might go and see what he’s all about. Might be a good time to figure out which one of the two we really need to fight.”

Ning waited for Mira to get the confirmation she needed. As she did, someone else talked on the phone.

“What are you doing?”

Larissa’s voice came on the other side.

“Finding our enemy,” Ning replied.

Larissa paused for a long moment. “Do you need help?”

“Nope,” Ning said. “I expect this to be as simple as walking in and walking out. I just need to find a way to get in.”

“I’ve sent you the location,” Mira’s voice came from further away.

“Don’t do anything rash,” Larissa said. “That place is most likely going to suppress all of your powers, so you will be helpless.”

“Even without powers, I can handle myself well,” Ning said. “Thanks for worrying anyway.”

Ning ended the call and looked down at the screen, learning where he had to go now. Once he was done reading, he flew away, making his way to the party.
