Chapter 1789: The Whip next to the Corpse
Chapter 1789: The Whip next to the Corpse
Outside of the space, everyone was shocked to find the two other candidates dead in a matter of minutes.
Shara had blasted Oleander’s face with her lightning magic, and the prince had choked Jema to death. No one would have imagined that this was how they were going to die.
“They’re… dead,” one of the men in Oleander’s army said. “What… what do we do now?”
Nobody answered the man. No one could answer. This was a situation not a single one had expected to have to go through. Their candidates’ death was such a big deal that they hadn’t even thought about what would happen afterward once they were dead.
Now that the situation had arrived, things began to get tense around them.
Everyone turned around, looking at each other, each one ready to jump into battle.
Ning glanced around, ready to get into battle as well.
However, Matthew spoke before anyone else. “We have 8 thousand Undeads, all of whom can easily overwhelm you all and kill you. Everyone who has lost, we are willing to let you live in the name of fairness. Do not test our limit.”
His words were a hammer to their heart. Any thought of retaliation they may have had earlier vanished entirely.
Everyone focused back on the match.
“He didn’t take her whip,” Mari said softly, noticing the whip next to Jema which could extend to an impossible range. Shara wouldn’t even need to be good at using the whip if she had it.
She could just hit around from a distance and catch the prince off guard.
“She should take it when she has the chance,” Mari said.
They watched as the prince baited Shara into moving away from Oleander before he absorbed his energy.
Ning frowned. Shara had close to no real education as to what her powers could do, so she had to entirely rely on what she had managed to figure out on her own. He wished he had the ability to create information as he did when he had his system.
Sadly, his real body was still in the mountain range, buried many hundred feet deep. Until this experiment was over in 2 more years, he could not get anything.
Shara suddenly asked a question inside that caught the attention of many people.
“What is she saying?” Mari asked. “Why would the prince have killed her parents?”
Ning narrowed his eyes. “Because I told her he did,” he explained.
Mari looked toward Ning. “How… how would you know that?”
Ning sighed. “I suppose this matters to you as well.”

The prince stared at Shara for a good few seconds before his back slacked a little, seemingly no longer in any danger.
“What makes you say that?” he asked her.
“Yes or no, answer me,” Shara demanded.
“No,” the prince said. “When your parents died, I was in my home back in my palace. I was reigning over my people while my father was at war. However could I have been in the mountains to kill your parents at that time?”
The man had somehow completely evaded her question and yet fully answered it at the same time.
Shara pointed her spear toward him and the lizard glowed. A white-hot bolt of lightning jumped at the prince in the moment of its creation.
The prince didn’t swing his sword this time around. Instead, he used the necklace he had just worn, belonging to Oleander.
He teleported.
The prince arrived behind Shara, his sword thrusting toward her back.
Shara used her ability just as the sword pierced her cloth. It left a nick on her skin and she could feel a drop of blood dripping down her back, leaving a warm trail behind.
She turned around at an impossible speed, the lizard empowering her reflex and movement. She moved away from where the sword was and swung her spear as it went for the prince’s throat.
The prince had already started moving away from her, so he managed to evade the attack before it even reached him.
Shara saw a look of panic in his eyes. The prince looked away from her for a second, looking at a certain direction, before jumping back even further.
Shara quickly turned to see what he had just glanced.
Her eyes landed on Jema’s lifeless corpse, laying on the ground with her hand still on her whip.
’The whip,’ Shara thought. If she had the whip, she wouldn’t have to worry so much about reach and distance. She could attack the prince and he would have no choice but to continuously dodge around.
That would also help her from having to constantly use her own technique to forever remain impervious to physical touch.
She turned around instantly and bolted for the whip. She knew the teleportation artifact that Oleander used had a delay of a few seconds before it could be used again.
She hoped that was still the case for now.
She arrived by Jema’s corpse with the prince running toward her already. But he was far slower than she who had been blessed with great speed by the Lightning Lizard.
Shara turned to look at the prince for one last time, making sure to keep an eye on him for when he teleported. She reached down for the whip and pulled it away.
Or, she tried.
The whip was locked in place, which nearly buckled Shara over with the unexpected force she had used. She also felt a pull at the same time. Confused, she turned around right as five fingers came for her face.
Five scratch marks appeared on her face, each mark trickling with blood.
Shara let go of the whip and stepped back while activating her power at the same time. She stared before at the impossible sight.
She stared at Jema, alive and well.
’No, she’s not well,’ Shara thought with confusion still running unbounded in her mind.
Jema had blue marks around her neck, a clear sign of having been choked. At this rate, she should have entirely been dead.
However, for some reason, she was still very much alive.
