Chapter 1680 A New Day

1680  A New Day

Ning cut the grass around the cart to not let the fire spread to it, but by the time he was over, it started raining and taking out the fire by itself. Ning then dragged Oly’s corpse away from the side of the road to deep within the grasses far away. He had no shovel, so all he could do was let it rot within the glass.

He couldn’t take back the corpse for others to see. The questions alone were a thing to avoid in his current situation, not to mention being detained on suspicion of murder.

He made sure to drag the corpse far enough away that no one could get to it by accident. Once he was sufficiently far away, he dumped it into tall grass and stared at it for a moment as the sky lit up with lightning once again.

The husk of the body of the lady was not a sight Ning liked to see. If it was possible, he wouldn’t have wanted to kill her. In the first place, it sounded like she was only doing what the soul made her do.

But she was still an accomplice in the end. She didn’t stop or try to do something to fight the spirit’s influence. She found him on her own. That wasn’t the spirit’s doing.

Ning believed that she was someone who knew killing innocents was bad, so she lied to herself that she wasn’t the one doing the killing because a spirit was doing it for her instead.

After watching for the corpse for a few more minutes, Ning turned back around and made his way toward the cart. Searᴄh the NôᴠelFirё.net website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

The fire in the grass still burned but it was small enough that they didn’t have to worry about anything just yet. Ning checked on the horses next, making sure the rain wasn’t getting to them that badly. Then, got onto the cart himself.

Shara gave him a small towel she had found in Oly’s belongings, letting his dry off. Once Ning was dry, he sat inside, hearing the rain hit the cloth around the cart.

Water didn’t seep into the cart just yet, but he had no doubt it would if the rain lasted for too long.

Shara sat with her arms around her knees, making herself tiny inside the cart. Their lantern glowed dimly on the side, showing her a blank look.

“What’s wrong?” Ning asked. “Are you still tired? Did my antidote potion not work?”

“No… that’s not it,” Shara said. “I just… I killed another person today. The second one in 3 days.”

“An evil person,” Ning said.

“Was she? Didn’t you say she was possessed?” Shara asked.

“She wasn’t possessed when she left us here. She wasn’t possessed when she fed us poison to make us fall asleep. She wasn’t possessed when she made all those decisions. She wasn’t a killer, but she was the very next thing.”

Shara felt quiet for a while. “I’m worried I might get used to this. Killing people. I don’t want that to be true. I don’t want to kill people.”

Ning remained quiet for a while, only the sounds of pattering rain making any noise between them. Then, he said, “I won’t say you won’t kill another person. Given your situation and what it is that you intend to find, it is likely you will be put in a situation where you must kill again. But, I can promise you that for as long as I live, I won’t let you kill someone who didn’t deserve it. If nothing else, I will be your guiding arrow.”

Shara looked at him and nodded. “Thank you.”

Ning gave a meek smile. “You should sleep.”

“I’ll stay awake for a while. See if I am needed for something,” Shara said, looking up at the rain. “I’m not feeling sleepy at all anyway.”

“Are you hungry? Do you wanna nibble on what we have?” he asked, but Shara shook her head. Ning sighed. “Alright, wake me up if something happens,” he said and laid down to sleep with his back toward her. Before sleeping right away, he opened his status page to see how it was now. [Status Report:

After feeding the Anti-Toxin potion to Shara to get her to wake up, he had 0 points remaining. However, because he fought the woman and the vengeful spirit, he gained 10 points.

‘The stronger the opponent, the more points I get it seems,’ he thought. He wanted to use the points to purchase the scroll of the constitution, but having the points by itself was more important, albeit annoyingly so.

He fell asleep not long after, partly because of how tired he was, and also partly because as well as he appeared to be, his body was still wounded and needed time to heal.

When he woke up again, he could feel the heat of the morning sun even through the thick fabric of the cart. Thankfully, no rain seemed to have seeped through.

He slowly got up and looked around, searching for Shara. She wasn’t in the cart. He got out and looked for her, only to find her in the distance cutting some grass.

“Shara!” he called out loudly, looking to the side at that point to realize that it was well into the morning. It was clearly later than 8 in the morning.

He had slept for a long time. “Yes?” Shara replied from far away.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Cutting some grass for the horses,” she said.

Ning looked at the horses and then back at her. “You could just take them along to feed, you know. You didn’t have to cut grass for them.”

“I thought of doing that, but then I was worried they would run away. I can’t handle them like you do,” she said. “So I decided to bring the grass to them instead.”

Ning chuckled a little. “Alright, hurry up. They look hungry.”

It was a good thing last night’s events hadn’t ruined her at all.
