Chapter 507 - 506: Snail’s Pace Race, an Incompetent Qin Wudao?
’BUZZ, BUZZ BUZZ? Did you hear that? It sounds like another mosquito.’
Chu Sheng flapped his wings and flew to Gu Yuexi’s ear, vibrating at a frequency only the two of them could understand.
A flicker of doubt crossed Gu Yuexi’s eyes. She listened intently for a moment, then shook her head gently.
"Nothing."
Her Perception was far sharper than Chu Sheng’s, yet she had truly heard nothing. On the contrary, the entire grand palace was utterly silent—unnervingly so.
How strange.
Chu Sheng grew suspicious. ’Did I mishear? That faint, intermittent call felt too real to be an illusion.’
However, the sound didn’t return. He could only suppress his doubts for now and cautiously survey his surroundings.
The two continued forward.
This hall was absurdly large.
On either side of the hall stood twelve enormous statues, each over ten meters tall, radiating an ancient, barbaric aura.
The statues were bizarre in appearance, each with a human face and a beast’s body. They exuded an air of antiquity and malice... just looking at them was enough to stir a sense of unease.
As Gu Yuexi looked at the statues, a solemn expression appeared in her cool eyes.
"These must be the Twelve Ancestral Witches from the legends of antiquity."
she said in a low voice.
’The Twelve Ancestral Witches?’
Chu Sheng was startled. ’I’ve heard that name in the myths of my past life... To think they also exist in this world—and were actually real?’
’So, this palace has some connection to the Witch Race?’
’Ah, whatever. I’ll worry about it later.’ Chu Sheng scratched his mosquito head and moved on.
The palace was simply too large. Coupled with the omnipresent influence of the Power of Time, every step forward required immense energy to resist the Law, making their progress exhausting.
After walking for an unknown amount of time and consuming another Wood Spirit Pearl, the two finally reached the end of the massive hall. An even more magnificent Inner Hall appeared before them.
This Inner Hall reached a staggering height of a hundred meters!
And within the massive gates of the hall, a figure stood with its back to them, inching forward at an excruciatingly slow pace.
It was Qin Wudao.
From Chu Sheng’s perspective, Qin Wudao’s movements were as slow as a lagging animation.
He lifted one foot and set it down again—a simple motion that took nearly ten full seconds!
Gu Yuexi’s expression grew even more solemn.
"This Inner Hall is where the Power of Time on the second floor is most concentrated. Inside, our every action will become even more difficult than before."
She looked at the almost-frozen Qin Wudao and continued,
"If we venture deeper, into the very core, everything will be brought to a complete standstill unless you are a true Emperor Realm expert. That is why this Divine Hall is known as the ’Divine Hall of Stagnation.’"
She paused, a truly grave note entering her voice.
"Slowness isn’t the biggest problem. With enough patience and perseverance, you’ll eventually reach the end."
"But don’t forget, for every minute we spend in this Divine Hall, we lose an entire year of our Lifespan."
"So, in here, time *is* life. In the truest sense of the word, life!"
Hearing Gu Yuexi’s words, Chu Sheng felt not a shred of fear. Instead, a strange sense of excitement washed over him.
He flapped his wings, letting out a couple of buzzes.
’I get it! It’s just a life-or-death struggle, right? Who’s afraid of who!’
Seeing his fearless, daredevil attitude, a helpless smile touched Gu Yuexi’s tense face.
"Let’s go!"
The human and the mosquito, hesitating no longer, strode and flapped their way into the massive Inner Hall.
The moment he entered, Chu Sheng felt as if he had slammed into a wall of thick syrup. His Speed plummeted once again!
But at that moment, a faint halo of light appeared around Gu Yuexi, woven from the Power of Law of several different kinds.
Of the ten great Laws, she was not proficient in the Time Law or Space Law, but she was an expert in the other eight!
At this moment, she was using her understanding of the other Laws to forcibly resist the surrounding Power of Time, carving out a relatively free area for herself through sheer will.
Chu Sheng, however, was the exact opposite.
Of the ten great Laws, his Comprehension of the others could be described as mediocre, if not nonexistent. But as luck would have it, his Comprehension of the Space Law and Time Law was actually quite good!
He didn’t resist the Power of Time. Instead, he pushed his Time Realm to its limit, actively merging himself into the slow-moving current of time.
One relied on forceful resistance.
The other, on active integration.
The human and the mosquito, using completely different methods, both began to rapidly "shuffle" toward the very core of the Inner Hall.
Not long after they entered the Inner Hall, Yao and her subordinates finally arrived behind them.
Clutching emerald-green branches, they too charged into the Inner Hall without hesitation.
Yao took out the emerald-green bamboo flute and began to play again. As the ethereal melody rang out, the viscous Power of Time around them actually receded somewhat.
Although the effect wasn’t as strong as it was for Chu Sheng and Gu Yuexi, it still allowed them to advance.
For a time, a bizarre race began to unfold within the Inner Hall that should have been completely stagnant.
Three parties, all moving slower than snails, were desperately trying to overtake one another!
And in this race, Chu Sheng, with his deeper understanding of the Time Law, was undoubtedly the one with the greatest Speed!
...
At the very front, Qin Wudao, still shuffling along with great difficulty, also noticed the commotion behind him.
He struggled to turn his head. When he saw the mosquito steadily approaching at a Speed a sliver faster than his own, the composure he had maintained until now finally vanished from his face.
His face flushed red with frustration and rage.
’How is this possible!’
’How could this damned mosquito be faster than me?!’
’The Power of Time is one of the most supreme Laws in this world. Even I can only barely counteract some of its effects by relying on special treasures and techniques. But this mosquito...’
He glared at Chu Sheng, his eyes filled with envy and disbelief.
At this moment, Chu Sheng, being the least affected by the Power of Time, had already picked up his Speed.
He was closing the distance to Qin Wudao, little by little.
Behind him, the slightly slower Gu Yuexi was also advancing steadily.
She saw that Chu Sheng seemed to want to wait for her and immediately shot him a look.
The meaning was clear: "You go on ahead. Don’t worry about me. I’ll catch up."
