Chapter 397: Returning to Great Xia, Giving Sakura Country a Little Warmth on the Way
Several hundred kilometers outside Great Xia’s Kyoto City.
Space rippled faintly as Chu Sheng and Gu Yuexi appeared out of thin air.
To be safe and avoid completely depleting his Mental Power, Chu Sheng hadn’t teleported all the way back from the White Eagle Empire in one go. Instead, he had broken the journey into several long-distance Instant Teleportations.
After all, with something like spatial transport, the slightest mistake could send you thousands of miles off course. With no way to lock onto a destination, you could end up anywhere.
Even so, there was a small hiccup along the way.
During the final jump, Chu Sheng’s Instant Teleportation went awry. When he opened his eyes—my word—he saw nothing but cherry blossom trees below, along with the iconic Mount Fuji.
Chu Sheng couldn’t help but laugh.
’This must be fate!’
Since he’d come all this way, it would be a shame not to do something to commemorate this “unexpected journey.” He hovered high in the air, looking down at a shrine that enshrined some nauseating memorial tablets. The thought he liked to call ’helpfulness’ began to grow wildly within him.
’I hear the weather in Sakura Country has been getting chilly lately, no?’
’As a hospitable mosquito from Great Xia, surely it’s not too much to offer my neighbors a bit of warmth?’
And so, he aimed at a certain spot below and once again unleashed “Amaterasu”!
“Amaterasu’s Flame!”
Flames as black as ink poured down like a waterfall from hell.
Watching the buildings below instantly transform into a sea of black fire, and seeing the panicked crowds screaming gibberish as they tried to douse the flames only to find that water had no effect, Chu Sheng nodded in satisfaction.
’Much warmer now.’
As for what he burned… if you know, you know.
His good deed done, Chu Sheng left his fame and accomplishments behind, activating Instant Teleportation again and returning directly to Great Xia’s Kyoto.
…
Back at Jing University, the atmosphere was as festive as New Year’s.
No, it was even more lively than that.
Bright red banners hung all over campus, their brilliant gold lettering glittering in the sun: “Warmly Congratulating Our Student Gu Yuexi for Leading the Great Xia Team to Victory in the Global Youth Martial Dao Tournament!”
Besides banners, there were also posters.
Huge posters of Gu Yuexi and Chu Sheng were plastered everywhere—on the walls of academic buildings, at the entrance to the cafeteria, and even on lampposts along the road.
Gu Yuexi still had her cold, stunningly beautiful, and unapproachable look, holding a longsword like a celestial being descended to the mortal realm. Above her shoulder, a giant mosquito, pitch-black with a metallic sheen and wings as sharp as blades, stared ahead with a look of utter disdain for the world.
Chu Sheng flew in mid-air, admiring his own poster, feeling absolutely wonderful.
’Tsk, tsk, look at this figure, this proboscis, this murderous gaze.’
’Handsome!’
’So damn handsome!’
’It’s only because I’m a mosquito right now. If I were human, I’d definitely be a heartthrob who could charm countless girls.’
Gu Yuexi, however, was indifferent to such empty fame. She was as composed as ever, as if she wasn’t the one who had just wreaked havoc in the White Eagle Empire and shocked the entire world.
The girl and the mosquito didn’t head back to the dorm or the principal’s office; they went straight to the Credit Hall.
’No matter what, securing your earnings is the golden rule.’
Though they had gained a lot from their trip to the White Eagle Empire, they hadn’t forgotten their original reason for participating—credits!
Arriving at the Credit Hall, they found it as bustling as ever.
When Gu Yuexi walked in, the noisy hall fell silent for a second before erupting into a wave of hushed gasps and whispers.
“Look! It’s Goddess Gu!”
“And Lord Divine Mosquito!”
“Oh my god, they’re really back! I just saw the news, the White Eagle guys are furious. Our victory was so satisfying!”
“Yeah, and it sounds like they threw the White Eagle Empire into total chaos!”
“Breaking news, something in Sakura Country got torched an hour ago too! That black flame… sounds like the Divine Mosquito’s handiwork!”
“Holy shit, for real? Fucking awesome! Well done!!”
There were no brainless villains jumping out to taunt them. These were all students of a top-tier university; they weren’t idiots.
Faced with a powerhouse who had just brought glory to the nation and completely crushed her peers, who would be stupid enough to pick a fight? Only someone with a death wish, or someone who thought their family tree needed trimming.
Gu Yuexi walked up to the counter, handed over her ID card, and said calmly, “I’d like to claim the credit reward for the tournament.”
The person on duty at the Points Exchange counter was a female intern, and her eyes were filled with adoration as she took the card.
“G-Gu, the higher-ups have already briefed us. However, because your performance was just too… too incredible, the specific amount of credits is so large that it requires a comprehensive assessment. You may need to wait a few days.”
“Mm,” Gu Yuexi nodded without saying more.
Meanwhile, Chu Sheng lay on her shoulder, listening idly to the whispers of the surrounding students.
“Hey, how many credits do you think the university will give them for this?”
“It can’t be a small amount! This is a world championship! And they basically wiped the floor with those guys from the White Eagle Empire! It has to be at least five hundred thousand, right?”
“Five hundred thousand? You’re thinking too small! I heard that not only did we win the tournament, but they also scored a lot of good stuff in the Secret Realm. The higher-ups want to give them a massive reward! I’m guessing at least eight hundred thousand!”
“Eight hundred thousand… My god, I only get five thousand credits for an S-Level mission. I’d have to work until my next life to earn that much.”
“Think bigger! I bet it could be a million!”
…
After registering, Gu Yuexi didn’t linger. She took Chu Sheng back to her familiar single-room dormitory.
As soon as they were inside, Gu Yuexi locked the door from the inside and activated the room’s isolation Array.
“I need to enter seclusion for a while.”
Gu Yuexi looked at Chu Sheng.
“I still need to refine those three Soul-Corroding Nails.”
She had an unusual degree of control over the three Soul-Corroding Nails, but she couldn’t fully relax, as they weren’t originally hers.
“Alright, you do your thing.”
Chu Sheng flapped his wings casually. “It’s perfect, actually. I also need to take stock of my gains from this trip and think about my next steps.”
Though bound by a contract, the girl and the mosquito usually handled their own Cultivation separately, without disturbing each other. Speaking of which, Gu Yuexi, the Reborn Empress, was truly extraordinary. Even though Chu Sheng constantly suppressed her, she always managed to just barely keep up with his rate of progress.
Just being able to keep pace with a walking cheat code like Chu Sheng was enough to prove how incredible she was!
Gu Yuexi nodded, sat cross-legged on the bed, and took out the three long nails that emanated a faint, cold light. She quickly entered a deep state of Cultivation, oblivious to herself and the world.
Chu Sheng, on the other hand, flew to the desk, found a comfortable spot to lie down, and let his consciousness sink into his mind.
He needed to summarize his gains from the White Eagle Empire and review his current stats to figure out what he should do next.
When would his next evolution be?
And what was the limit of his evolution? How many times could he do it?
Ten times? Twenty? Or a hundred?!!
