Reincarnated as a Lizard

Chapter 599: Promoted to S Rank (2)

Having managed to push Valerie and the receptionist out. Obtaining the status examination room all for himself, Verdell moved his hand towards the push to reveal more information button before gently pushing it after making sure he was indeed alone inside the room and the magical isolation barrier centered on the small room for absolute privacy was in effect.

[Race: Dwarf]

[Class: Dragon Flame Mage]

[Level: 134]

[Current Rank: S]

[Magic: Fire Magic, lvl 9; Dragon Flame Magic, lvl 2; Water Magic, lvl 5; Earth Magic, lvl 2; Wind Magic, lvl 6]

[Skill: Dagger Mastery, lvl 6; Mana Circulation, lvl 5...]

Reading through his now full available status that had already updated his rank, Verdell found that his skills weren’t much different from what he had expected, but his magic skills were a bit different from what he had expected.

His fire magic was at level 9, that was expected, as taking any magic or skill further required a special evolution to take place, one that was difficult to accomplish. The dragon flame magic on the other hand was some he had somewhat expected to see given the name of his current class following his promotion to the S Rank, but his water and wind magic was something completely unexpected he hadn’t expected to see grow to such a degree following his recent class advancement.

Not just because his class didn’t seem the slightest bit related to water or wind magic, but also because he had only ever picked up the basics of wind and water magic in the past. Not much different from his earth magic that had only barely reached level 2.

Among the three basic magical abilities, the one he had used the most often was wind magic to try and enhance the strength of his fire magic, but still, reaching level 6 was far beyond what he had expected. Not to mention, the only thing he had ever used water magic for was to conjure up water for bathing or drinking while out adventuring. The kind of magical ability any mage would pick up if they had the opportunity to do so because of how useful it was to have the ability to conjure up water whenever one needed it.

Earth magic was similar, as using simple earth magic was useful for digging a quick firepit in the ground or a simple hole in the ground when one needed to relive oneself and quickly burrow the aftermath without attracting any unwanted monsters using earth magic as well.

Fire magic was the same for most other mages, as most tended to at least learn it so they had the ability to light a fire whenever needed.

Wind magic was a bit different, as it wasn’t something every mage picked up, he chose to learn it because it could enhance the strength of his fire magic, but for most, without proper dedication, it could at most serve as a way to lower fall damage when falling from high up or slightly increasing one’s speed.

Not worth the time needed to learn it for most mages...

"Does it perhaps have something to do with the class advancement quest...?" As he was lost in his own thoughts thinking about what the reason behind the sudden advancement of both his water and wind magic might be, Verdell couldn’t help thinking back to the class advancement quest he had managed to successfully pass thanks to Scaly.

From what he knew, it wasn’t odd for a class advancement quest to bring benefits to certain skills and help their level increase, something that was more so the case for more difficult class advancement quests.

Originally, he had thought the dragon flame magic was the benefit he received from his class advancement quest, but look at how his wind magic and water magic had also mysteriously improved, he had a feeling the dragon flame magic wasn’t the only thing he obtained from his class advancement this time around.

Thinking about it, Scaly seemed to be especially proficient in both water and wind magic. Meaning there was a good chance this had ended up resulting in his own mastery of those two magical abilities benefiting.

The reason his earth magic hadn’t improved beyond what it had been before him reaching the S Rank, should be because Scaly wasn’t proficient in this kind of magic.

Although he would have loved to also gain her lightning magic and the strange magical ability that allowed her to traverse between the material plane and the dreamscape, he understood that this was him being a little too greedy considering he had already obtained dragon flame magic from his class advancement.

If he had truly ended up also gaining the ability to easily traverse between the dreamscape and the material plane, that would truly have been a shocking turn of events...

"Haaa... Whatever, what matters is that I might be able to start incorporating my wind magic far more deeply into my fire magic while also potentially exploring some of the more defensive water spells when I have time in the future." Shaking his head as he said this to himself while giving his full status one last glance, Verdell slowly closed the interface and pressed the exit button. Deleting his information from the machine while also leaving it ready for the next adventurer entering the room to examine his or her status.

Of course, compared to him who had been able to use this machine for free because of how he was advancing from the A Rank to the S Rank and needed to get his status examined to rank up, others wouldn’t be able to access this machine for free. Only those looking to verify their strength for ranking up would be able to access it for free like he had.

If not, it wouldn’t be cheap to use.

Even worse, the stronger one was, the more expensive it would be to use. Not because the guild was kind enough to implement a strategy of escalating price based on strength, but instead because it consumed more mana crystal to examine someone with more strength.

Sure, the guild could handle the cost when an adventurer ranked up, but beyond that, the guild had no intention of bearing the burden of assessing someone’s strength. Allowing the adventurers who were curious about their strength to pay for it on their own.

In a way... This also meant most adventurers rarely ever dared to examine their strength in detail before completing a class advancement quest. After all, mana crystals weren’t exactly cheap.

Only someone at the A Rank or above, who was stuck at that level for long, would use this feature from the guild outside the free opportunity given to them following a rank increase.

Shaking his head as he thought about this to himself, Verdell made his way over to the door before gently twisting the handle to leave-

Thud!

"Huh?!"

"Verdell, come, let me test your strength now that you have become an S Rank Adventurer!"

Only to find himself walking headfirst into an overeager Valerie, who didn’t give the dwarf any time to respond before dragging him off towards the guild training grounds.

All he could do was glance in the direction of a passing guild staff member who shot him a look of understanding before giving him a thumbs up. Clearly familiar with the overeager woman dragging him off towards the training ground, as it seemed like he wasn’t the first victim to get dragged off by this young woman since her arrival at the north.

...

Around the same time Verdell found himself being dragged off towards the training ground by Valerie, Scaly had already spent the past few hours moving through the northern region searching for a place to safely undergo her evolution.

Of course, she wasn’t looking for a place in the northern region to hunker down and go through her evolution. Instead, she was using her dream magic to peer into the dreamscape searching for a safe place to cross over into the dreamscape and look for a remote floating island to hide away while going through her evolution.

Unfortunately, during these past few hours, she had come to realize that the dreamscape on the other side of the northern region was far from peaceful, as a simple peek through the veil that separated the material plane from the dreamscape made her aware that the general location of the northern region within the dreamscape was far lower down compared to the continent and small islands she had traversed through in the past.

Meaning, just a simple glance on the other side had allowed her to sense the presence of countless deadly dreamscape monsters that were no weaker than herself along with no lack of those that made her feel a sense of deadly threat- or in other words, dreamscape monsters whose strength far exceeded her own.

Something that ultimately meant searching for a safe spot to enter the dreamscape turned out to be far harder than she had originally anticipated...
