Chapter 595: Approved Monster Emblem (2)

"So... You want to register the dragon and get a monster emblem approved? Sure, no problem." Having entered the Adventurer Guild Branch, Verdell had shaken off the group of people who had been following behind him and was now standing before the local branch master, who had just approved his request for a monster emblem. Not finding anything wrong with his request and at the same time also not seeing any reason to refuse them after having personally witnessed how he and Scaly had saved the city not that long ago.

Under normal circumstances, getting an approved monster emblem required a few weeks of monitoring along with testing and approval from an experienced monster tamer who could vouch that the monster was indeed a tamed monster, but... With how Verdell had saved them and seeing how he was working together with the dragon, the branch guild master had already determined that this was a tamed monster and saw no reason to refuse this simple request.

Of course, another reason also had to do with how powerful Verdell was in his eyes and the simple fact that there was no reason for someone like that to lie about something like that. If anything, the entire situation was just a way for him to help repay this powerful adventurer that had shown up in their time of need to help them overcome a difficult situation.

In fact, helping Verdell get an approved monster emblem for Scaly was the least he could do, as outside of this little help, he also had the accomplishments of today recorded in his guild badge. Making it so he could go to a large guild branch to get a proper reward for the assistance he had lent them, as the city that had just suffered an attack from the snow wolves didn’t exactly have any appropriate reward.

Luckily for Verdell, getting his achievements recorded on his guild badge didn’t involve the other party looking through his information, but just needed him to connect it to a central magical array that helped automatically record everything down.

If the other party had ended up seeing his information and realized he was only recorded down as an A Rank Adventurer- and one that was a monster tamer, but a mage, it would have been far harder to explain the dragon he had just gotten an approved monster emblem for. After all, within his recorded data in the guild, he had never been a monster tamer.

Even if he could explain it as a unique class change that had taken place upon reaching the S Rank, it was undoubtedly still a bit dubious that this would work. Especially if the guild decided to look deeper into the situation and ended up getting a look at his status.

Not only would they discover he was still within the scope of the S Rank, but also that he didn’t have any class related to monster taming. Meaning Scaly wasn’t a tamed monster, but instead what was considered a companion monster in the eyes of the guild.

Although both could be registered for an approved monster emblem, it was far harder compared to a tamed monster that wouldn’t cause any trouble once tamed and from what he knew, was a process that could not only take years to get approved, but also involved stringent testing from monster tamers to ensure the monster companion wouldn’t cause any problems.

In the end, everything worked out and he found himself successfully leaving the guild branch with the approved monster emblem. Finding himself swarmed by an eager group of adventures almost the instant he stepped out of the branch guild master’s office.

"How did you use both fire and water magic so smoothly!? I have been a water mage my entire life and have never been capable of using anything beyond a simple spark spell. Can you teach me how you did it?"

"Senior! That battle was awesome! How about a free visit to my tavern? You can get as many drinks as you want!"

"Hehe~ Senior, why don’t you come to-"

"You! Didn’t you say we were going to spend the night together?!"

"Hmph! I never said anything like that, a dwarf like senior is more to my liking!"

Amongst the crowd of adventurers and locals, there were no lack of people asking for guidance in magic, while a few weirder once also managed to mix in amongst the crowd of people, though he ignored these people and just pushed through before getting out of the guild with a crowd still chasing him from behind.

"Huh...?"

But as he stepped out of the guild branch and looked towards the dragon that should be quietly resting by the entrance, he was shocked to see the dragon in question standing proudly like a lord looking down at her subjects below, as what looked like a group of little children had gathered around her alongside their parents.

"Wow, the scales are so smooth!"

"So pretty, just like my mother’s jewels!"

"Hehe, sparkly, sparkly!"

"Whooo, so cool!"

The voices of praise from the group of children could be clearly heard echoing out around Scaly, as he silently glanced between the two parties with a wry smile on his face.

To be honest, this was not what he had been expecting to see, but then again, it wasn’t exactly surprising either, as he silently jumped up and landed on her back before gesturing for her to get moving before they were surrounded by the group of overeager adventurers still chasing him.

Huh? It’s already time to leave...?

And with a clearly reluctant look on her face as she looked down towards the small gazes filled with admiration as they looked up at her, Scaly could only silently sigh to herself before following Verdell’s gesture. Knowing that it was for the best. Not just because she already noticed the kids being dragged away by their parents as the rowdy group of adventurers came swarming over, but also because she still wanted to set off to find somewhere safe to undergo her next evolution.

Whoosh~

Together with the city itself being rather difficult to navigate on foot, she decided to just fly up a bit before gliding out of the city at a low altitude. Avoiding the deadly icy winds that could be found just a little higher up.

Leaving behind the adventures below, who had no ability to continue chasing after the two of them as they silently slid out of the city just as fast as they had arrived.

The decision to leave not just having to do with this city not being the main city Verdell wanted to reach, but also because it was troublesome for him to settle in this kind of city where everyone knew him.

As for Scaly... Though she had already decided to leave Verdell behind to go through her evolution, she had decided to at least help him get to the city he wanted to reach safely before leaving him to search for somewhere to undergo her evolution.

Having grown rather fond of the little dwarf during their time spent together and feeling like it was best to help him get to where he wanted before she left.

This way, she would also be able to learn where the main city of the adventurers within the northern region was and know what place to avoid.

After all, though she had managed to obtain what was called an approved monster emblem from Verdell, she still didn’t plan to go anywhere near adventurers and their hunting ground unless necessary.

Reason being that Verdell clearly informed her once they left the city that even with an approved monster emblem, there was no lack of adventurers who would still treat her as a normal wild monster without him around.

If she was just some normal common monster, most adventurers might have chosen to just ignore her, but given how unique she was and the simple fact she was a dragon, there was a good chance that most adventurers wouldn’t be able to stop themselves from making a move once they saw her.

As for why he had decided to tell her this the second they left the city? It might have been because he had already sensed she was going to leave soon and had thus decided to inform her about this ahead of time.

After all, like adventurers who had to go through class advancement quests to increase their rank, he knew monsters also had to go through a similar advancement in the form of evolution.

The main difference between the two being that going through an evolution would result in the monster in question going into a deep sleep for a period of time- and no matter how close he and Scaly had become, he understood there was no way she would willing allow him anywhere near her in such a weakened state, thus he had already been prepared for this day to come for some time now...
