Reincarnated as a Lizard
Chapter 579: Icy Wind of The Northern Region
Feeling a bit disappointed looking at the weak little snow fox working hard plowing a path through the thick snow, Scaly turned to look down at Verdell. Waiting for him to say something- or rather, explain himself, as this wasn’t the powerful monster he had been promising when talking about the northern region. If anything, it was a monster weaker than even those forgettable monsters she had killed along the way to the northern region.
"A snow plowing fox? How lucky, I was worried we might end up running into one of those polar snow bears or winged blizzard birds." Unaware of the questioning gaze from the disappointed dragon next to him, Verdell just let out a quiet sigh of relief muttering a few words to himself while gazing towards the innocent little snow fox plowing a path through the snow with no regard for its surroundings.
Still, though Verdell ended up ignoring her, his words did at least suggest that it was unusual for them to run into such a weak monster. Reassuring her to some extent as she gently poked him with one of her wings, a clear suggestion for him to get up on her back so they could start flying. Not wanting to walk her way through the snow. Gods know how long it would take her to traverse the frozen wasteland before her if she walked on foot.
"Huh? Want to fly? Sure..." And in response, Verdell got up on her back. "But I must warn you, flying through this place is far from simple. Not only because of the local flying monsters, but also the terrifying ice wind." Although, not without first warning her about the dangers of the northern region.
Whoosh~
Not that she took any of his words to mind as she leapt into the sky using wind magic to aid her in getting airborne. Soon enough flying through the sky that was far colder than she was used to with Verdell on her back, with the one positive being that the dwarf on her back served as a mobile heating unit. Providing her with a constant flow of warmth after he covered himself in a barrier using his fire magic to avoid being reduced to a dwarf popsicle.
If not for the warming unit on her back, she had a feeling that it might not have been possible for her to fly for long. After all, while the cold on the ground was only a bit uncomfortable, the cold while flying through the sky was downright unbearable. Not only was the temperature far lower in the sky, but the cold wind also made it feel far colder than it was.
WHOOOSH-!
However, just as she was starting to get used to the cold temperatures, a powerful wind suddenly slammed into her. Not only causing layers of frost to form on the surface of her scales, but also knocking her to the side, causing the little warming unit on her back to almost slip off in the process.
Luckily for him, he had already been anticipating a rough ride and had firmly gripped her neck. Hugging it tightly when the powerful wind hit them. Ensuring that he did not fall off and find himself plummeting towards the ground below.
"Careful, that is the wind I was talking about, though we were lucky this time around, it wasn’t a true ice wind fueled by a vast quantity of ice mana. If it was, the two of us might have already been turned into a rather interesting popsicle..." Settling into place again on her back, Verdell once again warned her in a way that made it clear he would prefer going on foot.
Unfortunately for him, though Scaly did hear him, she didn’t want to travel on foot after she had obtained the ability to fly. Feeling confident that even if they ended up colliding with the icy wind conjured up from a vast quantity of swirling ice mana, she would be able to survive it.
In the worst-case scenario, she could always just dive down towards the ground below and avoid the terrifyingly cold wind that way.
At least that was what she believed until she finally encountered the icy wind Verdell had warned her about...
WHOOOOSH-!
Not only was she once again thrown all over the place by the powerful wind, but she couldn’t control her body as the icy mana had already made it difficult for her to move her limbs, causing her to have little to no way to fight back against the icy wind throwing her around. Only able to barely cling to consciousness in the bitting cold that suddenly descended upon her like a grim reaper looking to claim her life, thanks to the little heating unit on her back working overtime trying to stay warm.
From the beginning to the end, everything had happened before she could even react and by the time it was over, she had no way to flap her already frost-covered wings and found herself plummeting towards the ground alongside Verdell.
Even worse was the fact that this had happened only a few seconds after Verdell had warned her about just such a situation- and she had decided to keep flying confidently. Only to get knocked down a peck by the icy wind that had come to slap her in the face and teach her a valuable lesson about listening to the experience of the little dwarf on her back.
Thud~
Luckily for the two of them, the landing wasn’t too rough thanks to the thick layer of snow dampening the landing. If anything, the only thing lost during the short encounter with the icy wind of the northern region was Scaly’s face and a Verdell’s mana.
After all, it wasn’t exactly free for him to keep himself and Scaly warm enough to not pass out during their short encounter with the icy wind of the northern region. Having burnt through a good quarter of his mana during those few short seconds they had been thrown around...
