Red Monster
Chapter 178: Ceaseless Battle (7)
"They are here!"
Red yelled, calling the hobgoblins over. He didn’t need them to fight the kobolds, but he would need them to stop them from coming closer to him. He planned to kill them all with his bow.
With three kobolds dead, the remaining one charged toward him. It might realize that it had no chance to climb back up the wall. If it tried to climb the wall, it would be shot. An arrow struck its head within a few breaths, killing it instantly.
The voice was heard, and the ten hobgoblins came toward him. They found four kobolds on the ground, and seven more climbed the wall from the other side. They were about to charge at them, but Red stopped them.
"Stay around me! Don’t let them get close to me!" He commanded, and the hobgoblins listened.
At this point, the Kobold Scouts became his practice target. He didn’t shoot them when they tried to climb over the wall. He shot them when they jumped off the wall. That would give them no chance to retreat.
Red hit one Kobold Scout midair. He was proud of his aim because he still hit the head when the target moved so fast. Then the next target once they landed on the ground. Three successive shots within five seconds, killing three right away as each arrow hit the head.
The remaining four Kobold Scouts managed to land with no arrow in their heads, but they realized the situation was not good the moment they saw their friend’s bodies. But they didn’t have any choice but to fight. Climbing the wall back was the same as suicide.
The four Kobold Scouts charged forward, and the hobgoblins readied themselves.
Whish! Whish! Whish!
Three more successive arrows hit the Kobold Scouts in the head, their bodies limping forward, falling face first. Red left the remaining one for the hobgoblin to take care of. Seven more Kobold Scouts were about to jump over, so he changed his target to them.
This time he got two Kobold Scouts that were going down midair. The third one died the moment it landed. He killed the next three within the next five seconds. By this time, the hobgoblins had finished off one Kobold Scout that he left behind. They got to fight another as he focused on the six Kobold Scouts that were on top of the wall.
Two of them noticed their dead friends, and Red quickly targeted them. He killed them before they could make their escape. An arrow went into the head as their bodies fell to the other side of the wall. The last four kobolds were taken care of quickly after as well.
With that, he killed twenty-one Kobold Scouts, and the remaining three were taken care of by the hobgoblins. Two hobgoblins suffered a minor wound. Even fighting ten against one, the kobold could still harm the hobgoblins.
Red looked over the top of the wall, waiting for more Kobold Scouts. Ten seconds passed; no kobold came up. Twenty seconds passed; no kobold came up. He concluded that it was all the Kobold Scouts.
"You guys can get all the loot, but bring back my arrows!"
The ten Hobgoblins had been staring at the dead bodies for a while. Once they heard the command, they immediately rushed to get the loot. The ten hobgoblins were eight level 10 and two level 11. Their levels were low enough to be able to get the loot.
One of the hobgoblins quickly gathered the arrows, handing them to him. "Make sure to share the loot evenly!" He had to say it before leaving, and they all nodded toward him.
Red quickly used Burst Leap, jumping over the wall and entering the jungle. It was fortunate that they managed to finish off the Kobold Scouts so quickly. He climbed the tree and started to move until he got a clear look at the battlefield.
The normal kobolds fell into the traps they dug. Their screams could be heard from the pit. Some of them tried to walk around the pit and didn’t expect the pit to be so long. More and more kobolds were falling into the pit.
Realizing it was a long pit, they tried to jump over it. They reached the other side of the pit with a single jump, but they didn’t expect that another pit awaited them. They fell right into the second pit, and those two pits alone took half or maybe more of the normal kobolds.
The pit didn’t just delay their advance, but also trapped half of the normal kobolds. That already reduced the number of their enemies. But once they figured out the two pits, they avoided falling by jumping over.
"We need to widen the pit so they can’t jump over the pit..." He muttered while watching the normal kobolds jump over his trap.
Red shook his head, putting the idea of his trap back in his head temporarily. He needed to focus on the task at hand for now. He looked at the backline of the kobold army. His main target would be those forty Elite Kobold Archers.
There was something he was worried about: that Kobold Challenger. Could that Kobold Challenger block his fireball? Would Fireball with seven-times mana work?
"Maybe I should use eight-times mana..." He recently jumped four levels. With his new Mind Stat that was halfway to four hundred, he might be able to control eight-times mana or even nine-times mana fireball.
"Nine-times mana is too ambitious... I should try eight-times mana first..."
There was another issue: the distance. He was worried that the Kobold Challenger might be able to block his fireball. It was a kobold on the same level as the Chief, after all. It might have something to fight off magical attacks. That was why he considered using nine times mana. Even if the Kobold Challenger could block his fireball, he hoped the fireball would hurt that kobold.
"It’s pointless worrying over something uncertain. I can try first and think later if that Kobold Challenger can truly block my fireball!"
Red directed his right hand toward the line of the Elite Kobold Archers. He was glad that the Elite Kobold Archers were staying in one group, close to each other instead of splitting into several groups. That made it easier to target them.
He was supposed to draw 240 mana, eight times the required mana for fireball. However, he had a better idea, drawing 250 mana. It was not nine times the mana, but also more than eight times the mana.
The fire blazed in his palm, forming a ball of fire so quick. The size of the fireball was three times the size of his head, and he immediately released the fireball. He subconsciously pushed his hand forward, hoping to make the fireball go faster.
The first one to notice the fireball was the Kobold Challenger. It noticed the fireball two seconds after the fireball left his hand.
Red was aware that he was supposed to move into a new position, but he remained in his spot. He wanted to see whether the Kobold Challenger could block his fireball or not. The ideal situation was for his fireball to hit the Elite Kobold Archers. However, for some unknown reason, he wanted the Kobold Challenger to try to block the fireball.
To his surprise, the Kobold Challenger didn’t try to block his fireball. It didn’t even warn the Elite Kobold Archers about the incoming fireball. It leaped toward him instead, using Burst Leap. It flew up in the air as the fireball hit right in the middle of the Elite Kobold Archers.
Red had his eyes locked on the Kobold Challenger. The fireball exploded among the Elite Kobold Archers. The fire rose in the background as his eyes locked on the Kobold Challenger, who had the two axes in its hands.
The rational decision was to run, bringing the battle into the jungle, his battleground. But his heart told him something else, telling him to try to take the fight against the Kobold Challenger. It sounded absurd, but that was what his heart told him.
Red pulled his bow from his back, and his mana quickly coated the arrow. He didn’t sting with his mana, using 50 mana to coat a single arrow from the arrowhead down to the nock. He fired the first shot, and his right hand quickly took a second arrow from his quiver.
Mana flowed from his finger, quickly coating the arrow before the first arrow reached the Kobold Challenger. His first arrow was so fast it caught the Kobold Challenger off guard.
It quickly raised his axe, using the flat surface to block the incoming arrow.
Clang!
A loud clanking sound resounded, loud and clear, as sparks flew from the flat surface of the axe. The force behind the arrow managed to push the Kobold Challenger’s hand back. The second arrow was already on the way, and the Kobold Challenger was forced to use the second axe to block.
Clang!
The second clanking noise resounded, and this time the Kobold Challenger’s axe bounced upward. That was a clear opening for Red as the third arrow was shot.
