Red Monster
Chapter 165: Second Battle (2)
The Chief was not alone; he was followed by the three Goblin Champions who landed not far behind. Red was surprised that they would do that instead of staying in the backline. It looked like they wanted to finish the battle quickly so they could fight in the front.
Red took the courage to go down one more branch, standing at the lowest branch to get a clear look at the battlefield. The first thing he saw was three Elite Kobold Fighters’ heads flying. Those heads were still wearing helmets, spinning in the air as their blood spurted out from their headless bodies.
That was how powerful the Chief was. A single swing was all he took to kill three Elite Kobold Fighters. That one strike caused a panic attack among the kobolds. The Elite Kobolds were expecting their archers to shoot, yet no arrows were shot.
The Elite Kobold Archers were even more panicked because of the unknown attacker. They were not in a position to shoot as they were looking for the culprit that attacked them from behind. However, the Chief’s appearance forced them to focus on the Chief.
From the remaining twelve Elite Kobold Archers, only six were not wounded. Three had an arrow stuck in their chests, but could still stand up to shoot their bow. Their hands were fine. Meanwhile, the remaining three were on the ground with an arrow in them as well.
At that moment, Red made the decision. He stood up and put his bow into his Storage Pouch. Then he moved closer toward the group of Elite Kobold Archers, coming on top of them. While doing so, he took out his sword.
Even though the Elite Kobold Archer didn’t wear tough armor, Red still drew mana from his core, coating the sword with mana. By the time he finished coating his sword with mana, he was right on top of the Elite Kobold Archers. They had an arrow ready in their bow and were ready to shoot.
That was when Red landed right in the middle of the Elite Kobold Archers. He didn’t land on the root, but on the ground. Then he took a full swing, a three hundred sixty degrees swing.
His swords cut through four Elite Kobold Archers’ shins, slicing through their scales and bone with ease. The four Elite Kobold Archers let out a pained cry, caught by surprise. They fell off the ground after losing their footing.
Instead of finishing the four archers off, he dashed toward the two other Elite Kobold Archers. They didn’t shoot their bow because they were caught off guard by Red. He took that chance to his advantage. He was in front of one of the archers, raising his sword upward and slashing it downward, diagonally.
His sword cut through the Elite Kobold Archer’s waist, down the thigh, splitting the body into two. Then he turned around, looking straight at the last Elite Kobold Archer that didn’t have a single wound. The latter also looked back at him, stunned.
That was when the Elite Kobold Archer snapped its aim toward Red. However, Red used his Burst Leap, sending his body flying toward the stunned archer. He thrust his sword forward, reaching its maximum reach.
The sword pierced through the Elite Kobold Archer’s chest, going through to the back as Red brought the body down with him. They fell to the ground together, pinning the elite kobold to the ground. He twisted his sword to the right and pulled it out. Just to confirm the kill, he stomped the kobold’s neck.
Then his head snapped around, checking his surroundings. The normal kobold archers seemed to regain their senses as they aimed at him. They fired the arrows when their eyes met.
He immediately dashed away, looking for cover. Fortunately, the Elite Kobold Archers were standing at the highest root. He quickly ducked, literally throwing himself down. The sound of the arrows hitting the root reached his ears.
Red quickly got back on his feet, but instead of charging toward the normal Kobold Archers, he looked for the wounded Elite Kobold Archers. Those wounded Elite Kobold Archers posed a bigger threat than those normal Kobold Archers.
He found the three wounded elite kobolds. Just as he looked for them, they also looked for him. Their eyes met, and Red dashed to the right. He didn’t go for them right away because they had an arrow ready in their bow. He sought cover in the closest tree.
Red climbed the tree very fast and used the branch to move freely. To his surprise, an arrow pierced through the thick branch that was triple his body size. He forcefully stopped and slipped up instead because of the wet surface. The arrow grazed his chin, tearing his skin.
He fell on his butt and skidded through the branch, sliding on his butt. He was lucky that he didn’t fall to the ground. Two more arrows went through the branch, but they were far off from where he was.
Red looked at the hole in the branch and finally found out why the Chief was wary of the Elite Kobold Archer. With such a shot, a hit to the head would straight kill the Chief or even the Goblin Champion.
He peeked down and saw the normal kobolds were ready with the arrows, aiming up while the three wounded Elite Kobold Archers were loading their bow.
That was when he made the decision, directing his left hand toward the three wounded Elite Kobold Archers. He drew 90 mana from his cores to power up his Fireball, using 3x mana to minimize the explosion.
Red fired the fireball right after it formed in his palm, and the three Elite Kobold Archers didn’t get time to react. One of them was hit directly by the fireball, and the other two were swallowed by the fire.
The normal kobold archers tried to run away from the fire, no longer aiming their arrows upward. That explosion of fire seemed to traumatize the normal kobold archers. They ran in all directions; some were looking for cover, and some just tried to run as far as possible from the fire.
Red didn’t waste the golden chance he created himself. Using the chaos to his advantage, he descended from the tree. He landed behind three kobold archers that sought cover from the root. He didn’t forget to use Appraisal on three of them. Two of them were level 15, and one was level 17.
His sword sliced through their necks, killing them in a single swing. Then he left a mark on the level 17 Kobold Archer. That was the start of a one-sided slaughter.
