Red Monster
Chapter 153: Attacking the Kobold Village (4)
Red didn’t look at the charging kobolds. He turned toward his own Chief, trying to see what the Chief would do in this situation. The kobolds were sending their normal kobolds, a combination of Kobold Warrior and Kobold Hunter. They were technically stronger than the goblin, but weaker than the hobgoblins.
Sending the goblins to meet those kobolds was just suicide. It was not that useless, but three to five goblins would die just to kill one kobold. That would make their advantage, which was their number, pointless. In his opinion, the Chief should mix the Hobgoblins with the goblins. Like one hobgoblin led two or three goblins.
They had around ninety hobgoblins, around two hundred goblins. Mixing them together would reduce the casualties by much. That was his opinion, but the Chief might have a different thought.
He would like to say his piece, his advice for the Chief. But this was not the time. The Chief was prideful, and he was afraid that his advice might come off as an order or an offense.
"Wait! They still have archers; we will wait a little bit!" The Chief raised his axe as he roared, "Charge together! All Hobs and Gobs! Charge together on my mark!"
Red was honestly surprised that the Chief changed. He was more attentive to the situation, observing the enemy’s line. The remaining Kobold Archers were in line, following the charging kobolds from a certain distance.
If the Chief ordered their force to charge at the same time, that would allow the Kobold Archers to shoot their arrows without worrying about friendly fire. The Chief wanted the clash near the edge of the clearing, closer to the jungle. He also ordered the Hobgoblins to charge together instead of just sending the goblins.
Once the Kobold reached halfway to the jungle, the Chief roared, "KILL THE KOBOLD!"
The Hobgoblins and the Goblins followed the roar with their own as they charged forward. The archers attempted to shoot, but they were hesitating. The clash happened quickly, and they could not really find the right target as the kobolds and the goblins mashed together.
"You three follow them closely and interfere if the elite kobold tries to join the battle!" That was the order for the three Goblin Champions. "We need to reduce their numbers and free the hobgoblins to help us fight those elites!"
Fool, Observer, and Reasonable listened to the order without complaint. They moved up quickly, trailing the main force from behind. In fact, they were carrying rocks in their hands to throw them at the kobold.
"RED! FOCUS ON THE ARCHERS!"
That was the Chief’s order, and Red was ready for that. An arrow was nocked on his bow, aiming at the archer at the backline. The Kobold Archers were confused and tried to shoot at the backline of the goblin by aiming higher up.
He identified the archers. The Kobold Archers didn’t have the black armor that the Elite Kobold Fighter had, meaning he didn’t need to coat the arrow with mana.
Red shot three arrows consecutively within five seconds. That was his quickest consecutive shot he could pull off.
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
He landed a headshot with the first two arrows, and his third hit the chest. His last shot reduced his aim, the price to maintain his speed. He was satisfied with the result, though, as three Kobold Archers were down.
He then changed his position afterward, not wanting another spear coming for him. His position was not two trees to his left from his initial position.
Then he did it again, another three consecutive shots. Maybe the wind, or maybe the wound on her left forearm, but his aim got worse this time. All three seconds only hit the chest instead of the head.
Two of them managed to get up again as the arrow hit their shoulder, not in the middle of the chest. They were in pain, but that didn’t stop them from getting back up. They were now looking up for his position.
Red moved again after three shots, moving three trees to the right this time. Those two with an arrow in their shoulder were rendered useless. They could not draw their bow properly anymore.
He changed his target even though it was not a kill. He had a limited number of arrows, after all. He wanted to save the arrows for the Elite Kobold Fighters too. Retrieving the arrows was an option, but most of his arrows were stuck at the kobold backline. It was a risky move to retrieve those arrows.
His job was not to kill, but just to ensure those Kobold Archers could not shoot their arrows. There were twenty-seven Kobold Archers in total, and he still had plenty left after shooting all of them down.
That made him realize that the Chief had another plan for choosing the battlefield near the jungle. That was for him, so he could be effective in the battle just like when he was in the jungle, eliminating the hidden danger that could cause a lot of death.
He brought the battle closer to him, putting the kobolds into his range, or...
"Or I can shoot them with fire instead..."
Red realized that his fireball was ready for another one. He looked for the Chief and wanted to give the Chief a warning. However, the Chief was positioned a little bit forward, behind their force, which was apparently winning.
When the Hobgoblins and the Goblins were mixed together, their combat effectiveness increased. It was still chaotic and a lot of casualties, but they were winning and pushing.
Red realized that he needed to be careful with his fireball. His fireball didn’t just burn, but also explode. That explosion might harm the goblins. Since the goblin was pushing, the Kobold Archers became closer to the main battle.
"Four times mana? No, let’s do it with three times mana for safety..."
It was a pity to reduce the firepower by three times, especially with a thirty-second cooldown. But he didn’t want to kill the goblins.
Red quickly executed his plan, charging up ninety mana for this fireball.
"Fire incoming!" He yelled before releasing the fire.
He aimed at the middle of the Kobold Archers. They froze for a moment until the Kobold Chief roared something in their language. They turned around, scrambling to run. That was too late, as the fireball hit one kobold in the body when they were just taking two steps.
The fireball detonated; the fire blazed outward, engulfing the closer Kobold Archers. Their screams echoed, adding more noise to the battlefield. At least ten Kobold Archers were swallowed by the fire. The remaining Kobold Archers were sent flying by the shock wave.
