Reborn To Love

Chapter 44 Are You Hungry

Chapter 44 Are You Hungry

He Xinyan walked to the restroom and noticed that her eyes were extremely swollen and red, and it was clear that she had just cried. She tried to wash away the evidence, but nothing worked. It seemed like the swelling wasn’t going to go away anytime soon.

She had accidentally made a noise when leaving, and He Xinyan knew that Bai Jiawei and Li Huiran might be suspicious of her right now. She had to get out of here.

He Xinyan quickly changed into more formal clothing and walked over to her door when she froze. Where was she going to go? Wu Minger’s house?

He Xinyan stopped and gently shook her head. Minger would ask her what happened and she didn’t want to tell her about her family’s issues. Wu Minger was an innocent and kind person, and He Xinyan didn’t want to ruin that special trait in her.

The nasty and complicated things of the families in the upper class weren’t suitable for people like Wu Minger. Not only would it be difficult for her to understand, but it might also destroy the simple view of life she had. He Xinyan wasn’t going to do that. . .

He Xinyan scoffed when she realized just how lonely she was. Aside from this “family”, there was nowhere else she could go.

She sighed and walked back into her room when something on the large table in the front of the room caught her eyes. He Xinyan immediately picked up the keys on the table and rushed out of her bedroom.

She was relieved to see that there was no one around, and she assumed that Bai Jiawei and Li Huiran were probably still inside their bedroom. Quietly, she tiptoed down the stairs and she was so nervous, she didn’t even waste the time to put shoes on before she rushed out the door.

After locking the door behind her, He Xinyan ran down the steps and down the sidewalk. The small rocks on the sidewalk hurt the bottom of her feet, but she didn’t care.

She ran up the long front porch and stopped when she was in front of a door. With the key she had received yesterday, she opened the door and entered Gu Yechen’s house.

The lights were all closed when He Xinyan walked in, and she looked around the large mansion. There was no one on the first floor, so she slowly walked up the steps to the second floor, where it was also dark.

He Xinyan found the lights and she clicked them open. It took her over ten minutes to walk around the entire second floor and peek in every room to see if anyone was inside. Some of the rooms were locked but the ones that weren’t had no one inside.

The third floor was also empty, so Xinyan dejectedly walked back down to the first floor. It seemed like as she was walking over here, something sharp got stuck into the ball of her foot. With each step, a sharp pain shot up her left leg and it made He Xinyan flinch.

Slowly, she walked over to the couch and she sat down. Maybe it was because she was tired from crying for so long, but she fell asleep a few minutes after her body touched the couch.

It was past dinner time when Gu Yechen returned home from the company. He opened up the door into his house and he smiled as he eagerly awaited for nighttime to come so he could go see his wifey.

After putting on his slippers, he stepped into the living room and saw the person he wanted to see the most on the couch. At first, he thought it must have been a hallucination and it was because he missed her too much. However, after a few seconds had passed, he slowly walked over to the couch and bent down.

Gu Yechen gently sat down on the edge of the couch and caressed He Xinyan’s cheek with one hand. What was she doing here? Did she also miss him? Gu Yechen smiled and stood up to go get a blanket for her. However, this small movement woke her up as she let out a soft moan.

He Xinyan rubbed her eyes gently and stretched her legs out. The first thing she saw after opening her eyes was Gu Yechen.

”You’re awake. Are you hungry?” Gu Yechen walked back over to the couch and sat down. He Xinyan blinked her eyes a few times and stared blankly into Gu Yechen’s eyes.

He didn’t even ask her why she was in his house. . . He was just worried that she was hungry.

At once, He Xinyan burst into tears again. She didn’t want to cry in front of him but she couldn’t control herself!

Surprise quickly flashed past Gu Yechen’s eyes, but a second later, he smiled warmly and moved in, pulling He Xinyan into a hug. This time, He Xinyan didn’t push him away, and instead moved closer to him and buried her head into his chest as she cried her heart out.

Gu Yechen didn’t ask any questions or say anything. Instead, he let her cry and gently stroked her hair. It took several minutes for He Xinyan to stop crying, and she looked up at Gu Yechen with her lips pursed out.

Her red eyes, slightly red cheeks, and messy hair made her look like a sad puppy, and Gu Yechen’s heart melted when he looked at her.

He Xinyan pulled her hands away from Gu Yechen’s waist and she wiped her eyes, “So – Sorry. . . You – You’re sh – shirt is wet.”

He Xinyan stuttered while talking as she couldn’t control herself from taking quick and shallow breaths as she spoke.

Gu Yechen looked down and saw a small puddle in the front of his suit, “It’s okay.”

He Xinyan let out a soft whimper as she stopped herself from crying again. Why was he so nice to her?

”Thank you.” He Xinyan said gently.

Gu Yechen smiled, “Are you hungry now?”

He Xinyan stared at Gu Yechen with her puffy eyes as she asked, “Are – Are you not going to a – ask me what happened?”

Gu Yechen pulled He Xinyan closer to him again, and she didn’t resist his action, “Only if you want to tell me.”

He Xinyan moved her head up so her chin rested against his chest and she stared intently into his eyes. She could trust him. . . right? He Xinyan really wanted to talk to someone right now, and just let go of everything she was holding in. After much thought, He Xinyan decided that Gu Yechen was a good choice.

He was also born into a powerful family, and the relationships and lies inside were probably much more complicated than the ones in the He family. He would understand her.

He Xinyan moved around and found a comfortable position inside Gu Yechen’s lap before she started to speak, “My mom died when I was very young.”

Gu Yechen nodded his head. He had his assistant investigate her before, and he knew about all of this.

”And then my dad brought Li Huiran and Li Yuyan into the house,” He Xinyan grasped the sleeve of Gu Yechen’s suit tightly, “Today, I accidentally overheard Li Huiran talking to my dad. He killed my mom! Gu Yechen, can you believe that? My dad killed my mom!”

He Xinyan took a deep breath to prevent her tears from flowing out again, “My mom gave him everything! Bai Jiawei was just a normal man from the countryside, and he had nothing! If it weren’t for the He family, he would probably be a farmer in the countryside right now! How could he? How could he kill the person that loved him and brought him up to where he is today?!”

He Xinyan bit her lip tightly, “My grandpa was right. Bai Jiawei. . . If my mom had listened to my grandpa, she wouldn’t have died!”

Gu Yechen listened intently and his expression remained the same throughout the entire story. He would slowly pat her head as if he was comforting a little cat, and it calmed He Xinyan down.

”He killed her just for power and money!” Suddenly, memories from the past clicked and He Xinyan’s mouth fell open, “I know why!”

He Xinyan looked up at Gu Yechen, “Bai Jiawei is from the countryside, so he must feel extremely good of himself for coming into the city! My grandpa did not like him, and he used to talk bad about him sometimes even when he was around. Bai Jiawei must have killed mom because he didn’t like the He family! He wanted more power to feel good about himself and prove grandpa wrong!”

Gu Yechen nodded his head. That was what he was thinking while he was listening to the story too. His wifey was so smart, and they even thinked alike. They were really the perfect match!

Usually, when someone from the lower levels climb up to be in the higher levels, they develop a sense of pride. This pride can be very dangerous, and it must have made Bai Jiawei extremely mad when Xinyan’s grandpa hurt this pride.

That was also another main reason why the rich families wanted their children to marry children from the same status. People in the higher classes lived in different worlds from the people in the lower classes. Although it was sad, it was the truth. It was hard for two people from different worlds to be together, and He Yuxin and Bai Jiawei were a perfect example.

However, that doesn’t justify Bai Jiawei being ungrateful and cruel. He Xinyan clenched her fists together and she glared at Gu Yechen.

”Would you do that? You say you love me now, but what if you decide to kill me one day for power?!”

To her surprise, Gu Yechen laughed.
