Chapter 287 Gu Hanwu

He Xinyan and Xu Mengya gasped and Gu Yechen also frowned. Wasn’t Gu Hanyu the oldest son of his generation in the Gu family? There were three brothers. . . right?

There was more silence and the three of them waited patiently before Gu Hanyu finally opened his mouth. This was the first time He Xinyan had seen him like this. She couldn’t tell if he was shocked, scared, worried, surprised, or maybe all of them?

”Gu Hanwu. . .” Gu Hanyu looked up, “I am not actually the eldest son. My father gave birth to another son before me, and he was always supposed to inherit the Gu Corporation and everything. He was four years older than me, and my parents always paid attention to him, since he was the heir.”

Gu Hanyu shrugged and then frowned, “Mengya, you should know about this. When this happened, you were already pregnant with Yechen.”

Xu Mengya’s mouth fell open as she thought back hard, “Was I? What happened. . .”

Gu Hanyu sighed, “I would say he was stupid. . . but I would also say he wasn’t stupid. Hanwu chose to marry a girl named Wu Yin, who came from a poor family. My parents refused but he decided to get married privately before my parents could stop him.”

He turned to look at Xu Mengya, “When we got married, it was about the same time when he secretly got married. Remember? When you first visited the Gu mansion, the atmosphere was quite tense because of that.” 

Xu Mengya wasn’t the type to remember things for a very long time, and she had long forgotten about this as it happened over 20 years ago.

”Maybe. . . You know me! I have a horrible memory.”

Gu Hanyu smiled gently and rubbed her head before continuing, “That was also why my mom agreed on our marriage so easily. Technically, she didn’t really agree. She didn’t care. My parents were so caught up in their eldest son’s marriage, so they didn’t and couldn’t care or interfere with my marriage.”

”Plus, I wasn’t the heir back down so it didn’t really matter who I married. So, Gu Hanwu married Wu Yin, and she came from the rural side of the country. Overall, she was very poor. Her parents also weren’t simple people. Her dad was a drunkard and her mom was a prostitute. Overall, she came from a horrible family. It is natural that my parents wouldn’t allow that marriage.”

He Xinyan listened intently and her eyes widened slightly upon hearing about the woman’s family. She wasn’t surprised that the Gu family didn’t support Gu Hanwu’s marriage. 

Even in a smaller family like the He family, if she had married someone from the rural area with a drunkard dad and prostitute mom, the He family would definitely disagree. Furthermore, it was the Gu family! Of course they couldn’t allow this marriage to take place.

”However, my brother really loved her. She wasn’t a bad person, but her background is just way too unfit for a family like the Gu family. You know my parents, especially my mom. My mom made it very difficult for Wu Yin, and my brother was unhappy. In the end, he. . .”

Wu Hanyu sighed and shook his head slightly, “He gave up his position in the company and even his position in the Gu family and everything he was supposed to inherit for that girl. When he announced that, my parents were obviously furious. So, they kicked him out of the family.”

Xu Mengya gasped and placed one hand over her mouth. Some memories were slowly coming back but she still didn’t remember the details as it was too long ago.

”Even now, Gu Hanwu’s name isn’t on the Gu family’s family tree. Because he left, I got the position as the heir.”

He turned to look at Xu Mengya, “You were also pregnant with Yechen by that time, and the doctor had said it was a boy, so my parents decided to make me the heir.”

He Xinyan did not know whether she should be surprised or not surprised about this. After all, the Gu family was the most powerful family in the country, it wasn’t very surprising that they had a deeper story behind who was the heir and the family relationships. 

However, this was still very surprising! There was another secret son of the Gu family that was supposed to inherit everything?! 

She found it quite touching how he gave up everything he had his entire life for a woman, and as a woman, she naturally supported him. However, at the same time, He Xinyan couldn’t help but think it was a little stupid as well.

Even though she would also hope that Gu Yechen would do the same for her, it was quite a selfish thought. After all, when comparing love to bread, most people would choose bread.

A marriage or any romantic relationship without any money would most likely not stay strong for long. Many problems would arise. . . Even if it was supposedly “true love”.

”I kept in touch with him for a while, but my dad found out and I lost contact with him. . .” 

”So you and Gu Hanwu had a close relationship?” Gu Yechen asked.

”I was closer with him than my two other brothers. . .”

”Oh,” He Xinyan exclaimed. From Gu Hanyu’s original reaction, she had thought that they were enemies or something.

”So that person said he is Gu Hanwu’s son. . .” He Xinyan furrowed her eyebrows together, “So he had a son with Wu Yin.”

She did not know exactly why, but the name Wu Yin sounded weirdly familiar. Maybe she had seen it somewhere in a book or a drama.

”I’m not sure. They probably had children.” Gu Hanyu sighed and shook his head, “It has been so long since I last heard of his name. . . I almost forgot that he existed.”

He Xinyan turned towards Gu Yechen, “Why don’t you try and call that number again?”

Gu Yechen pulled out his phone obediently and dialed the number again. However, there was just a consistent beeping noise and it said the number did not exist.

Gu Yechen knit his eyebrows together and made another call to Chen Xiao, “I want you to find who is behind the number XXX-XXX-XXXX right away, and where Gu Yebei was for the past few days. Who he met and everything he did.”

”He didn’t give you the address of where you would meet, right?” Gu Hanyu asked.

Gu Yechen shook his head, “No. . . He said we have two days, so he would probably give it to us on the last day. And it -“

Suddenly, there was the sound of a doorbell ringing. 

Xu Mengya jumped up from the sound and immediately ran over, “I called Minger over. She should know about this too.”

He Xinyan had completely forgotten about it and she also stood up. Minger would probably be worried if she heard about this.

Wu Minger walked in, confused about why she had been called over.

”You haven’t been with Yebei?”

Wu Minger shook her head, “He told me he had some work to do, and he hasn’t contacted me in the last few days.”

The four of them exchanged glances and in the end, Gu Yechen ended up telling her about the news since He Xinyan and Xu Mengya couldn’t say it.

Wu Minger almost burst into tears when she heard that they were going to kill Gu Yebei, and He Xinyan ended up having to comfort her for several minutes.

She could tell that Wu Minger was trying to stop herself from stating her opinion. . . Because obviously, for her, she would most likely ask Gu Yechen to just give up his shares in order to save Gu Yebei.

It was a little selfish, but everyone had what they cared about most, and it was natural for Wu Minger to want to save Gu Yebei.

And to be honest, they were all considering it. Even if the money was important, was it more important than their family member’s life?

However, they still had to try. 

Gu Yechen stood up and sighed, “There is no purpose in having all of us here. Go home and we can all think about it. . . There must be a way to find him and get him out.”

”What if we call the police?” Xu Mengya suggested.

Gu Yechen furrowed his eyebrows together as he didn’t really trust the police, “We don’t know how powerful or clever he is. If we call the police and he realizes, then he might get mad and just. . . kill Gu Yebei.”

Xu Mengya put one hand over her mouth upon hearing that.

”It would be a risk. . . It depends on whether we want to take the risk or not.”

Then suddenly, Gu Yechen received a notification and he picked up his phone from the table. The next second, he tightly knit his eyebrows together and frowned.

”What is it?” He Xinyan asked.

He showed her his phone and at once, her mouth fell open in both shock and disbelief.

”This – How. . .”

Everyone curiously looked up at the phone and He Xinyan handed it to Xu Mengya to take a look. As the phone went around to everyone, the room fell silent.

On the phone screen, it was open to his messages and Gu Yechen had just received a new message from an unknown number.

’Unknown: Don’t think about calling the police. . . I know everything.’
