Within minutes, a team of technicians burst into the chamber clutching their laptops.

"Pull up the live logs and check the security footage inside this room immediately!" Professor Shen commanded, pacing back and forth.

The technicians quickly set up their equipment and began typing rapidly on their keyboards. They were under the impression that the high-tech surveillance cameras installed in the room had been recording continuously. Unfortunately for them, Neko-chan had already breached their internal security network, entirely disabling the room’s camera feeds the second Yu Qi and her group had crossed the threshold.

Even though Yu Qi and the others were already cloaked in invisible mode and could not be seen on screen, Neko-chan had taken the extra precaution of disabling all visual and audio recording devices in the room to ensure not a single sound of their conversation was captured.

The technicians immediately connected their laptops to the overhead cameras inside the room. However, the cameras had already been disabled fifteen minutes prior, leaving the monitors displaying nothing but a pitch-black screen.

"Do you have the footage up yet?" Professor Shen demanded impatiently.

"Sir, it appears someone manually or remotely disabled the cameras fifteen minutes ago. We cannot view any feed past that point." One of the technicians explained nervously.

"What? Disabled?! How on earth did you fail to realise it sooner?" Professor Shen barked, glaring sharply at the technician team.

The technicians lowered their heads, not daring to utter a single word in response.

"Professor, it has only been fifteen minutes. The intruder is likely still somewhere inside this room." One of the researchers suggested thoughtfully.

"That’s right. We did not encounter anyone in the hallway on our way here, and there is only one exit leading out of this chamber." Another researcher chimed in.

Professor Shen narrowed his eyes in calculation. He was harbouring the exact same suspicion. Yet, where could an intruder possibly hide in a completely empty room, unless...

His gaze slowly drifted toward the massive door at the far end of the chamber. A cold shiver ran down his spine. No one was permitted to unlock that door except Master Liang himself. Master Liang had warned him repeatedly never to open it, explicitly declaring that he would ruthlessly kill anyone who dared to defy his orders. Remembering how mercilessly Master Liang had executed the last person who crossed him, Professor Shen swallowed hard, determined not to become the next victim.

"Did we have any external visitors today?" Professor Shen suddenly asked, remembering the scheduled schedule.

"I believe so. Today the research centre hosted public guided tours." A researcher nodded.

"Yes, and the current tour should still be underway." Another added.

"Professor, do you suspect the intruder might be disguised as one of those visitors?" The researcher asked.

"Quite possibly..." Professor Shen narrowed his eyes thoughtfully. "Pull up the detailed logs of today’s visitor registry immediately."

"We can check the access records right here." The lead technician offered hastily.

"Do it now." Professor Shen ordered.

Eager to make up for their earlier blunder, the technicians typed frantically to retrieve the visitor log.

"We received a fairly large group today, totalling fourteen visitors, comprising two family groups and a cohort of students. However, one of the families departed the facility early due to their young daughter throwing a tantrum." The technician reported.

Professor Shen fell silent upon hearing the report, lost deep in thought.

"Are you absolutely certain that family actually left the facility?" Professor Shen pressed.

"Yes, sir. Our external surveillance cameras at the main parking lot confirmed that the family boarded their vehicle and drove off the premises." The technician replied with a confident nod.

Professor Shen let out a cold, mocking scoff.

"You failed to even realise that the security cameras right inside this room were compromised, yet you dare stand there and guarantee that the outdoor feeds were not manipulated as well?" Professor Shen snapped.

The technicians remained completely silent, unable to talk back. Truthfully, Professor Shen’s point was undeniable. If an intruder possessed the sophisticated capability to blind their internal security systems, tampering with exterior parking footage would be child’s play.

"Let’s clear out of this room first. Position two armed guards directly outside this door. Trigger Code Red immediately. Lock down the entire facility, let no one leave, and forcefully restrain anyone who dares to resist." Professor Shen barked out his orders with absolute authority.

It was evident that Professor Shen held the highest administrative security clearance within the Shenxie Research Centre at the moment.

The staff immediately mobilised to execute his commands.

Yu Qi and Long Hui decided to slip out of the chamber and trail behind Professor Shen, intending to find an opportune moment to confront and interrogate him one-on-one. As they made their way out of the underground facility, the loud blare of an emergency broadcast announced the activation of Code Red.

Up in the main facility, the touring visitors looked around in confusion, wondering what the sudden alarm signified. Deng Chen’s face turned pale when he heard the announcement. From his understanding of facility protocol, Code Red meant an unauthorised intrusion had occurred, and valuable assets had gone missing, marking only the second time in the facility’s history that such a high-level alarm had been issued.

"Mr Deng, what is going on?" The leader of the student group asked anxiously as he glanced at the armed guards.

"This..." Deng Chen stammered, unsure of how to explain the situation without causing mass panic.
