Chapter 2740: Poison The Middle Aged Man
Chapter 2740: Chapter 2740: Poison The Middle Aged Man
The middle-aged man’s professional expression cracked for the briefest, most microscopic fraction of a second. Although he recovered his composure almost immediately, that tiny, involuntary twitch of panic did not escape the razor-sharp eyes of either Yu Qi or Long Hui. The two of them noticed it with absolute clarity.
"Humph!" The middle-aged man snorted coldly, trying to bluff his way out. "You are just throwing out random guesses to try and test me, aren’t you? I am highly sorry to disappoint you, but I am not nearly stupid enough to fall for such a pathetic psychological trick."
Yu Qi merely smiled, with a terrifyingly beautiful expression. Then, she casually reached into her jacket and took something out.
Before the middle-aged man’s eyes could even register what object she was holding, Yu Qi completely vanished from the exact spot where she had been standing. The middle-aged man’s eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated shock. A split second later, Yu Qi reappeared directly in front of him out of thin air. It was executed with such supernatural suddenness that she was practically face-to-face with him, her cold breath fanning his skin.
The middle-aged man’s heart nearly stopped dead in his chest. Instinctively, he stumbled backwards in a blind panic, his boots tangling. However, before he could even begin to regain his balance, Yu Qi moved with lethal precision.
A long, thin medical needle flashed briefly beneath the dim lighting of the house.
Then—Stab!
The sharp needle pierced directly and deeply into his thick thigh muscle. The middle-aged man’s face twisted into a grimace of pain. Before his brain could even process the attack to react, Yu Qi had already smoothly depressed the plunger with her thumb. A clear, strange liquid entered his bloodstream instantly.
"What!"
The middle-aged man barely managed to utter a single, choked word before the chemical effects struck his nervous system like a freight train. His legs instantly gave out beneath his weight like melted wax.
Thud!
He collapsed heavily and awkwardly onto the hard floorboards. Raw, primal panic immediately flooded his heart. He tried to push himself up to stand, but nothing happened. He tried to frantically move his arms to swing at her, but nothing happened. He tried his fingers, his legs, his torso.
Nothing moved. It felt as though his entire physical body had instantly ceased belonging to him, completely severed from his consciousness. The only part of his anatomy he could still successfully move was his head. Cold, paralysing fear surged through his veins.
"What the hell have you done to me?!" The middle-aged man shouted at the top of his lungs, his voice trembling uncontrollably as he stared up from the floor.
"Well..." Yu Qi crouched down gracefully in front of his paralysed form and smiled pleasantly, looking like an innocent angel. "It is a highly specialised poison that completely paralyses the entire motor nervous system of the body, while deliberately leaving the brain and head fully conscious and highly sensitive."
Yu Qi tilted her head slightly to the side, watching him. "You should be able to feel the full effects quite clearly by now, right?"
The middle-aged man’s pupils shrank violently into tiny pinpricks. Indeed, she was completely right. He could feel absolutely everything with heightened accuracy. He could feel the freezing temperature of the floor beneath his back. He could feel his own heart racing violently like a trapped bird. He could feel the cold sweat rolling down his temples. Yet, no matter how desperately or furiously he screamed inside his own mind, his stubborn body simply refused to obey a single command.
A profound, icy chill ran straight down his spine. Yu Qi chuckled softly, the sound melodious yet terrifying, before continuing.
"It is a very special, custom poison that I personally developed in my lab." Yu Qi’s smile widened slightly, showing pearly white teeth. "To be completely honest with you, it has been quite a while since I last had the perfect opportunity to test it out on a live human subject."
The middle-aged man’s face turned completely ghostly pale. For some terrifying reason, the gentle, pleasant smile resting on Yu Qi’s face felt far more horrific than any physical torture or death threat he had ever encountered in his line of work. At that exact moment, looking into her cold eyes, he finally realised a devastating truth.
The young woman standing before him was far more dangerous, monstrous, and unpredictable than he could have ever imagined, even in his absolute worst nightmares.
The middle-aged man desperately tried to force his racing mind to calm down, clawing for any semblance of hope. Yeah. On their side, they had access to many world-class medical experts. Someone in the organisation would probably know exactly how to neutralise this poison. Surely, once they found him, there would be a viable way to cure him.
That was the desperate lie he kept repeating to himself like a mantra as he lay paralysed on the cold floor. Unfortunately for him, he was destined to be profoundly disappointed.
This was absolutely not an ordinary chemical poison that could be analysed in a standard laboratory. It was a highly sophisticated toxin infused with pure, volatile spiritual energy from Sere. Unless the person attempting to treat him was a high-level cultivator and an unparalleled expert in ancient spiritual pharmacy, no one in the mortal realm would ever be able to purge it from his system. No matter how advanced or cutting-edge modern Western medicine was, it would remain completely useless against a supernatural substance that did not belong to the normal world.
"Let’s go and take him away." Yu Qi said, turning her back on the helpless handler and speaking directly to Long Hui.
