Reborn Rich: Prices Dropped, My Savings Didn't
Chapter 569 - 565: Heaven Is About to Confer a Great Responsibility
By the time Emeric Grant snapped out of his daze, an image of a QR code was already in front of him.
"Let’s add each other first. If there are any details we need to discuss, you can send me a message. I have a great memory, so I’ll definitely remember anything you mention."
Emeric Grant took out his phone to scan it. "You can tell me about your situation, too. I’ll remember it."
Cecilia Sterling watched the friend request confirmation come through. She looked up at the meticulous Emeric Grant, and a clear premonition suddenly washed over her.
’It’s just... this man before me, maybe, probably, perhaps will...’
"I’ll pick you up tomorrow evening. Send me your address first."
"Tomorrow?" Cecilia Sterling asked in surprise.
Emeric Grant nodded and asked hesitantly, "What’s wrong? Are you busy tomorrow?"
Cecilia Sterling shook her head. She wasn’t busy, but... ’We have to put on this act tomorrow, and he’s only just now asking me? Isn’t that a bit too last-minute?’
"Okay, I’ll send it to you."
’Since I’ve already agreed, I might as well see it through. I’m not scared. Besides, helping a handsome guy is my solemn duty.’
Back in the car, the moment she sat down, her younger brother couldn’t help but lean over curiously. "Sis, don’t tell me you actually got a confession?"
Cecilia Sterling gave a meaningful smile. Although she hadn’t been asked out, Emeric Grant’s words, "I think you’re pretty, which makes you more convincing," actually made her happier.
’The guy seems so meticulous and proper, but his taste is definitely on point.’
Just then, her phone started blowing up with notifications. Cecilia Sterling thought the Math Olympiad team chat was exploding again, but when she opened it, she saw it was all messages from Emeric Grant with things for her to remember.
From his personal information and preferences to all sorts of other random things.
In just that short time, there were dozens of messages!
「The next day.」
Cecilia Sterling sat at her vanity, applying her makeup. Estelle and Blair had been watching her in silence for a while. Finally, they exchanged a look, and Blair nudged Estelle with her eyes, signaling for her to be the one to ask.
Estelle tiptoed closer and squeezed her face into the mirror’s reflection. Cecilia Sterling glanced at her through the mirror. "What? Never seen a beautiful woman before?"
Estelle stared at her, on high alert. "Something’s off about you!"
"Not as off as you," Cecilia Sterling retorted bluntly. "You still haven’t gotten your beginner’s go-kart license, have you? Are you really that bad, or are you just playing dumb for that hot young instructor of yours?"
"Cecilia!" Estelle Goodman yelled. "Don’t change the subject! You haven’t done such formal makeup in a long time. Spill it. Did you get back together with Wyatt Sherman?"
"Do you think that’s even possible?"
"You didn’t..." Estelle Goodman was shocked. "You didn’t just get over Wyatt Sherman and immediately get with someone else, did you?"
Seeing her overreact, Cecilia Sterling snorted. "I haven’t, but as long as I’m not two-timing anyone, it’s my freedom to get with someone else whenever I want."
"So what are you doing today? If it’s not a date, are you going to some kind of banquet?" Blair couldn’t help but lean in and ask curiously.
Cecilia Sterling finished applying her lipstick and admired herself in the mirror with satisfaction. "So? Am I beautiful?"
"Drop-dead gorgeous. Now hurry up and tell us, where are you going?"
"Heaven is about to bestow a great responsibility upon this humble person: to save a handsome man from dire straits."
With a mysterious smile, Cecilia Sterling hooked a finger around her nearby Hermes Small House. Her whole ensemble easily topped a million Dollars. Without a backward glance, she left the dorm.
Estelle and Blair exchanged another glance. They both felt that something was definitely up with Cecilia.
On campus, Cecilia’s look today was nothing short of ostentatious. Every person she passed, boy or girl, turned their head for a second look—a one-hundred-percent head-turn rate.
"That’s Cecilia Sterling, wow, she’s so beautiful!"
"That bag in her hand, the Hermes Small House, is over a million Dollars!"
"I’m so jealous. She’s beautiful and rich. I want to be born like that in my next life!"
Cecilia walked all the way to the school gate, not keeping a low profile in the slightest. As a result, Emeric Grant recognized her the moment she appeared.
Emeric Grant’s car was parked across the street. He had also changed into a relatively formal suit, which intensified his ascetic aura. He was the complete opposite of Cecilia’s fiery, brilliant look today, creating a stark contrast.
Emeric Grant watched the girl across the street, his eyes glued to her as she swayed gracefully toward him.
Before he could react, Cecilia was already upon him. With a natural movement, she hooked her slender, pale arm through his.
She tilted her head up slightly, her eyes bright and her smile revealing pearly teeth. "My makeup took a little long. Have you been waiting long?"
Emeric Grant snapped back to reality and shook his head lightly. "No. You look really beautiful today."
His tone was even, yet utterly sincere. It made you feel he was simply complimenting you—a compliment that was heartfelt and completely pure.
"You have to be a bit more formal when meeting the parents," Cecilia said.
Emeric Grant looked at her. The Cecilia before him was one he had never seen. In their few meetings at the hospital, he had seen her with elegant, light makeup and with a gentle, bare face, but he had never seen her look so bold and radiant.
Vibrant and full of life, it was as if all the surrounding light gathered on her the moment she appeared.
’I’ve never had an aura like that,’ Emeric Grant admitted to himself. ’I’m rigorous and restrained, and my personality is quiet and stubborn.’
The two of them were worlds apart.
Then he glanced down at the hand Cecilia had linked through his arm, his expression turning a little strange.
"What’s wrong?" Cecilia frowned when she saw his look. "Feeling uncomfortable already?"
"No," Emeric Grant explained in a low voice. "I’ve never had a girl link her arm with mine before. This is the first time."
"For real?" Cecilia was a little surprised, but she didn’t think Emeric Grant would lie.
"It’s true."
"Well, you’d better get used to it quickly. This is just the basics. If we have to hold hands or do anything else intimate later, and you subconsciously push me away, you’ll blow our cover completely."
"I won’t. I’m mentally prepared." As he spoke, Emeric Grant led Cecilia to the car and opened the door for her.
Cecilia got into the car and watched as Emeric Grant walked around to the other side, opened his door, and got in. "Are we going there directly? Should I have prepared a gift or something?"
"No need, I’ve already prepared everything." After starting the car, Emeric Grant remembered to add, "There might be a lot of elders at this event. If you feel uncomfortable, you don’t have to say anything. I can handle it."
Cecilia smiled. "Since I agreed to go with you, I’m definitely not going to just sit there like a pretty vase. I’ll adapt to the situation. Don’t worry."
The corners of Emeric Grant’s mouth twitched, and he actually smiled.
Cecilia was so surprised she blurted out, "You smiled?"
"Hm?" Emeric Grant frowned in confusion.
Cecilia marveled, "Every time I see you, I find myself staring at your face. I’ve only ever seen a hint of a smile in your eyes, but just now, the corners of your mouth actually turned up. That’s a rare sight."
Hearing this, Emeric Grant’s frown deepened. "You make it sound like my face is paralyzed. I just don’t smile much, it’s not that I can’t. Besides, there’s not much to smile about in my daily work."
"So you smiled just now because of what I said?"
Emeric Grant looked at Cecilia and nodded gently.
