Ethan Sterling pursed his lips, speechless. He muttered under his breath, "I’m your own brother. You could at least try to comfort me instead of twisting the knife."

"It looks to me like you’re adjusting just fine," Cecilia Sterling said, sipping her soup and watching her brother with a placid expression. "Didn’t you go and sign up for the Esports Club?"

"Yeah. I can’t figure out relationships, so I might as well do something I’m good at."

Hearing this, Cecilia Sterling knew her brother was still hurting, even if he didn’t say it. First loves were usually unforgettable, etched deep in one’s memory. The first person you love in your life is always the most special.

This was especially true since he was so young and innocent. She herself had lost even more miserably at his age, so thoroughly deceived by Shawn Lane that she didn’t know which way was up. It had affected her entire life.

No one grows without a reason; you have to go through things to mature.

So, Cecilia Sterling didn’t launch into a long-winded lecture. She simply offered her firm support for his decision. "That’s great. If gaming brings you some emotional comfort, I’m not against it. All that matters is that you’re happy."

"Really? What if I start competing again?" Ethan Sterling asked tentatively.

Cecilia Sterling was completely on board. "If that’s what you want, then go for it. I won’t say another word this time. Do what you want to do."

Because she now had the full ability to be his safety net, he could do whatever his heart desired, and she would support him.

Hearing his sister say that, Ethan Sterling finally smiled, deeply moved. "Thanks, Sis."

「That afternoon」

Cecilia Sterling returned to the hospital, accompanied by her brother.

Because her ER visit was on record, the doctor prescribed her medication directly. This time, she didn’t have to sit in the emergency hall but went to the infusion hall on the second floor.

Ethan Sterling stayed by his sister’s side, taking care of her. He only relaxed once the nurse had the IV drip set up. "They just took your temperature, and your fever’s gone down. Are you still feeling unwell?"

Cecilia Sterling leaned back in her chair, smiled, and shook her head. "I’m much better, don’t worry. If you have something to do this afternoon, you can go straight back to school."

"No way. Mom would definitely kill me if she found out," Ethan Sterling refused immediately. "Besides, I’d be worried. How could I leave my beautiful sister all alone in the hospital?"

"You and your sweet talk. In that case, go buy me a bottle of water."

"Okay!"

Ethan Sterling nodded, got up, and hurried to the first floor. There was a convenience store inside the hospital.

Cecilia Sterling looked up at the IV bag above her. The thought of having to let it drip for over two hours made her sigh. Last night, she’d been so dizzy from the fever she could just sleep through it, but today she had no choice but to sit and wait.

Just then, two young nurses nearby started chatting while they worked.

"Hey, did you hear about the pregnant woman who came into the ER last night, bleeding heavily?"

"I heard! Dr. Grant handled it. The whole hospital was talking about it this morning when I came in."

"I heard the mother was bleeding so much she almost died, but her husband and his old-fashioned father-in-law refused to sign the consent forms. They said since she gave birth to a daughter, removing the uterus would mean the end of their family line."

"It’s horrifying. It’s 2025, and things like this still happen."

"Dr. Grant went ahead and operated on her anyway. The husband only finally signed the papers when the surgery was already halfway through. If they had kept waiting for the signature, the mother probably would have died on the operating table."

"But then again, that was a huge risk for Dr. Grant to take. What if his good deed backfired and the family blamed him for everything since they never signed?"

"The situation was so urgent, Dr. Grant probably wasn’t even thinking about any of that."

Cecilia Sterling, sitting nearby, heard everything clearly. She had only seen the scene from a distance yesterday and had a rough idea of what happened, but she didn’t know all these details.

And just then, the two young nurses suddenly whispered in excited tones, "Dr. Grant is here."

Cecilia Sterling instinctively looked up.

She saw Emeric Grant stride into the infusion hall, dressed in a white coat and carrying a small plastic basket. The basket contained some sealed, unused medications.

He walked straight to the nurses’ station, handed the basket to the nurse on duty, and said in a low, expressionless voice, "Replace this set of meds with ’UR’."

The young nurse’s eyes lit up when she saw Emeric Grant, but even so, she didn’t forget her duties. "Dr. Grant, you have to go to the pharmacy to exchange medications. All the medicine here is accounted for. If you need to make a swap, you need the signed paperwork."

Emeric Grant lightly tapped a piece of paper inside the basket. "It’s right here."

The young nurse took it and saw that it was indeed the signed order form for the medication exchange. She quickly smiled and nodded. "Okay, I’ll go find it for you now. Please wait a moment."

Emeric Grant nodded. His tall, straight figure leaned slightly against the counter as he casually pulled out his phone and began looking at it.

His profile was nearly perfect. The lines from his forehead to the bridge of his nose, down to his lips and jaw, flowed together like a work of art.

It wasn’t just Cecilia Sterling who found him attractive; the two young nurses nearby couldn’t help but whisper, "He’s so handsome. To think such a good-looking doctor is in obstetrics and gynecology."

"When I get pregnant in the future, I’m definitely requesting Dr. Grant!"

"Me too! And besides everything else, he’s so responsible. Staring at such a handsome face every day might even make my baby better-looking."

Cecilia Sterling chuckled when she heard that. ’No matter how infatuated they are, as nurses, they should know that a baby’s looks have nothing to do with someone outside their bloodline.’

Just then, Emeric Grant suddenly looked up, his gaze unintentionally drifting toward Cecilia Sterling.

Cecilia Sterling wasn’t wearing any makeup today. Just recovering from her illness, her aura was different from usual—gentle and soft, but still beautiful.

Their eyes met unexpectedly. Cecilia Sterling offered a faint smile, and Emeric Grant, recognizing her at a glance, gave a slight nod.

She thought their brief, distant greeting would be the end of it, but after a moment’s pause, Emeric Grant started walking toward her.

Cecilia Sterling’s gaze followed him, tracking his figure step by step as he approached.

She was sitting; he was standing.

He glanced at the IV bottle and asked, "You’re sick?"

Several nurses’ eyes were clearly on them, but Cecilia Sterling nodded as if no one else was there. "I had a fever last night and went to the ER. I’m mostly better now."

"Last night?" Emeric Grant looked at Cecilia Sterling.

"Mhm, I saw you. There was a pregnant woman who seemed to be in bad shape. Is she okay?"

Emeric Grant understood. "She’s fine. Mother and daughter are both safe. There was just a small incident."

As he spoke, he subconsciously glanced around, his handsome brow furrowing slightly as he asked in confusion, "You came by yourself?"

Just as Cecilia Sterling was about to answer, she saw her brother returning with a plastic bag in hand. She jutted her chin toward the space behind Emeric Grant. "I have company."

Before Emeric Grant could turn to look, Ethan Sterling had already walked up to them. "I also bought you something sweet in case you have low blood sugar."

Emeric Grant stared at the back of Ethan Sterling’s head for a moment, then looked back at Cecilia Sterling. "Boyfriend?"
