"Thank you, Doctor," Zelda Warner said naturally. Holding Phoebe in her arms, a gentle, faint smile graced her lips.

Seeing this, Mrs. Yates’s eyes widened again, and she started looking around furtively.

"For the first three days, if you feel any discomfort, find me immediately. I’ll be in charge of all your check-ups during your postpartum hospital stay. My surname is Grant."

"Okay, Dr. Grant."

After speaking, Emeric Grant glanced around the room. He even clearly saw Cecilia Sterling, but his gaze didn’t linger for a moment, as if he had no memory of what happened yesterday.

"The mother is in good condition, but she still needs proper rest. It’s not good to have too many people in the room," Emeric Grant reminded them softly.

Hearing this, Mr. Young said, "We just came to see the baby. We’ll be leaving in a little while."

Emeric Grant gave a silent nod and turned to leave.

The young nurse saw him leaving and hurried after him. "Dr. Grant, bed eighteen needs you to take a look..."

Cecilia Sterling watched him leave the room and close the door before looking away. She didn’t really mind. ’Maybe he just forgot.’

’Even if I am ridiculously beautiful, I can’t expect everyone to find me unforgettable after a single glance.’

’Then again, his handsomeness was impressive enough to leave a mark on me. And that white coat only amplified his cold aura.’

At this thought, Cecilia Sterling touched her own face. ’Don’t tell me I have a thing for uniforms?’

Just then, Mrs. Yates, her face a mask of displeasure, spoke up. "TSK TSK TSK. Isn’t this doctor a bit too young? And a man, at that. What kind of experience could he have with childbirth?"

"Mom, it’s very difficult to become an OB/GYN. They’re judged on their professional skills and expertise, not on their personal experience giving birth," Zelda Warner said helplessly.

"Well... still, having a male doctor is so awkward," Mrs. Yates muttered resentfully, even pulling Cecilia Sterling over to her side. "Right, Cecilia?"

Cecilia Sterling gave a wry smile and explained, "Auntie, most OB/GYNs are men these days; there are actually very few female doctors. Besides, in the eyes of a medical professional, gender doesn’t matter. It’s all the same."

"How can it be the same?" Mrs. Yates shook her head and stood up, heading for the door. "I’m going to ask if there are any female doctors."

Seeing the older woman push open the door and leave, Zelda Warner gave Cecilia Sterling a helpless look. Cecilia quickly nodded. "I’ll go, I’ll go."

With that, she hurried out after her.

In the hallway, Cecilia Sterling caught up to Mrs. Yates. "Auntie, why don’t you go back inside? I’ll go ask."

Seeing Cecilia come out, Mrs. Yates couldn’t hold back her complaints. "Oh, Cecilia, it’s not that I’m trying to be difficult, but you saw him, right? Tell me, what’s a doctor doing looking like that? And an OB/GYN, of all things!"

"Just the other day, I read online that the two periods with the highest divorce rates are during a woman’s pregnancy and the first year after giving birth. If you ask me, it’s all because of these male doctors."

Cecilia Sterling looked just as helpless listening to this twisted logic, though she had to agree with the "Auntie" on one point: Dr. Grant was handsome.

"It’s alright, Auntie. If you don’t like this doctor, I’ll go and ask about getting Zelda a different one," Cecilia Sterling said.

"You’re the sensible one. I have to think about my son. My daughter-in-law is here all by herself, and that male doctor is touching her all over every day. You... you tell me, is that proper?"

Cecilia Sterling nodded perfunctorily and persuaded Mrs. Yates to go back to the room.

She went straight to the doctor’s office. After knocking for a while with no answer, a passing nurse saw Cecilia Sterling and asked, "Miss, are you looking for Dr. Grant?"

Cecilia nodded. "Yes, is this his office?"

"He’s with the patient in bed eighteen. It’s the second room on the left down that hall. She’s waiting to give birth and has severe morning sickness."

Cecilia Sterling thanked her and followed the directions to the ward. It was a six-person room with the door open. Before she even stepped inside, she could hear intense, dry retching from within.

She stopped at the doorway, not daring to enter. Just by the wall, a heavily pregnant woman was leaning over her bed, vomiting nonstop. It seemed she had been doing so for a long time, as only yellow bile came out.

The young nurse standing nearby watched with a frown, an unconcealed look of disgust in her eyes.

Emeric Grant, on the other hand, was completely composed. The fact that the person in front of him was vomiting her guts out didn’t seem to affect him in the slightest.

"Apply an ice pack with a towel to her throat. It can help relieve the urge to vomit," Emeric Grant said to the young nurse.

"Dr. Grant!" The pregnant woman looked up at him weakly. "Please prescribe me more anti-nausea medication. I really can’t take it anymore. I can’t eat anything. I just throw it all up."

Emeric Grant responded coolly, "I can’t prescribe any more. You’ve already developed a tolerance to the current dosage, so it would be useless. We can only use physical methods to alleviate it."

"Increase the dose, please. I feel like I’m going to vomit to death," the woman pleaded.

But when it came to his profession, Emeric Grant showed no sympathy for the patient. His expression unchanging, he refused, "No. Increasing the dosage will affect the baby’s health. Furthermore, your labor is imminent, and the medication will interfere with the anesthesia, which will be detrimental to the delivery. You’ll have to endure it a little longer."

The young nurse couldn’t help but point out, "The patient can’t keep any food down."

"Put her on an IV drip."

After saying this, he turned to leave. Seeing him, Cecilia Sterling quickly stepped aside, out of the doorway.

Emeric Grant walked out of the room, still not noticing Cecilia Sterling by the door. He clutched his folder and started walking, prompting Cecilia to quickly call out, "Dr. Grant!"

Only then did Emeric Grant stop and turn around. He glanced at Cecilia Sterling and immediately asked, "What is it? Is there a problem with the new mother in Ward V1?"

Cecilia Sterling was slightly taken aback. ’Doesn’t he have a great memory after all?’

’Looks like he really is just cold by nature.’

’And his performance in the patient’s room just now was extremely professional and responsible.’

’Cold yet responsible... Is this some new kind of character archetype with a surprising contrast?’

"No, it’s not that. Um..." Cecilia Sterling suddenly didn’t know how to begin.

’Should I just come right out and say we want to replace him?’

’That would be too rude.’

Emeric Grant’s handsome brows furrowed slightly, his eyes telling Cecilia Sterling to get to the point.

Cecilia Sterling took two steps forward before asking, "Are there any male doctors in the OB/GYN department?"

"I am one," Emeric Grant replied, a flicker of confusion in his eyes.

"Female doctors! I meant female doctors." Cecilia Sterling quickly corrected her slip of the tongue and immediately explained, "Um, Zelda’s mother-in-law is rather conservative and thinks a female doctor would be more... appropriate. Please don’t misunderstand."

Emeric Grant nodded in understanding. He didn’t look displeased, but his words were, "There are, but you can’t switch."

"Huh?" Cecilia Sterling froze, not expecting him to refuse so bluntly.

"The hospital has procedures for every department. She wasn’t originally my patient, but she moved to Ward V1, which means she was transferred to a room under my charge. Currently, all the doctors in the OB/GYN department authorized to oversee the VIP wards are male. So, I’m sorry."

He gave a slight nod, his explanation simple and clear.
