Chapter 312 - 310: An Easy 10k+ Per Month

Naturally, Wendy Duncan wouldn’t interfere with Jasmine Sterling’s personal decisions, but she truly couldn’t understand why Jasmine was so insistent on going out to work.

"Your children are so successful, and you have no financial pressure. If I were you, I’d definitely just stay home and enjoy this incredible blessing."

"I’m used to it. I’m just destined to work hard!" Jasmine said nonchalantly. "I’m not in my seventies or eighties, ready to just lie around at home yet. I think it’s good to stay engaged with society and people. It doesn’t feel tiring to me."

This was what she truly thought. She had originally moved to Lorcain only to put her daughters at ease, but everything here was completely unfamiliar. If she didn’t take the initiative to go out and try to integrate into this new city, she knew she’d lose touch with the outside world after being cooped up at home for too long.

And the best way to do that was to get a job.

It was understandable that Wendy Duncan didn’t get it. Although they were now good friends, they weren’t fundamentally the same type of person.

Fortunately, Wendy knew her boundaries and didn’t interfere too much in Jasmine’s affairs, promising to keep it a secret for her.

To her surprise, after submitting a few résumés on a job search website just to test the waters, she actually received a call for an interview the very next morning.

The caller claimed to be from a "human resources agency" and said they could recommend suitable jobs based on her situation and requirements.

Jasmine was overjoyed. She took special care with her appearance before hailing a cab to the location.

Following the address they provided, the taxi finally stopped in front of a shop called "Spotless Serenity."

After getting out of the car, Jasmine carefully checked the address. Once she confirmed it was the right place, she couldn’t help but frown in confusion. The "Spotless Serenity" storefront had no "Agency" sign, and it didn’t seem to match the business described on the phone.

But since she was already here, Jasmine only hesitated for a moment before pushing the door open and walking in.

There were quite a few people inside. A quick glance revealed to Jasmine that most of them were older women, around fifty years old. Some wore a uniform orange outfit with "Spotless Serenity" printed on the back of their vests.

It looked like a legitimate company.

"Here for a job?"

As soon as she walked in, a staff member came up to greet her. Before Jasmine could respond, the woman quickly looked her up and down and asked doubtfully, "How old are you?"

Although Jasmine was over forty, she had taken good care of herself and looked like she was only in her thirties, appearing very young for her age.

"Forty-five."

Hearing this, the staff member was clearly skeptical. She gave Jasmine another doubtful look. "Did you bring your ID?"

Jasmine nodded but didn’t hand over her ID so easily. Instead, she asked warily, "Are you the human resources agency? This place doesn’t look like one."

"This isn’t. We’re Spotless Serenity, a housekeeping company. The agency sent you to us," the staff member explained rapidly, completely unfazed by the situation and showing no hint of an apology.

"A housekeeping company? Then they must have made a mistake. I’m not looking for a housekeeping job," Jasmine quickly explained.

But the woman just looked at her calmly and said, "This is how online job hunting is nowadays. The agencies just send people over. If you take the job, we pay them a commission. If you don’t, the agency doesn’t lose anything. You just have to be more careful when you’re job hunting from now on. The internet is full of agencies these days. We get plenty of people tricked into coming here just like you every day."

Jasmine felt a surge of annoyance. It wasn’t just that they had wasted her time; the main thing was that she had been so happy after getting the call. This unscrupulous agency had dashed her hopes for a new job.

Her enthusiasm instantly vanished. Jasmine couldn’t take her anger out on the housekeeping company or the staff member in front of her, so she just nodded and said, "I’m looking for a job in a hotel’s housekeeping department. Let’s not waste each other’s time, then. Goodbye."

She turned to leave but was stopped by a voice.

"Ma’am, then you’ve come to the right place!"

A rather enthusiastic voice suddenly rang out. Jasmine turned her head and saw a man in a suit walking toward her. The staff member beside her instinctively straightened her posture. "Manager."

The manager seemed much more enthusiastic than the staff member. He stopped in front of Jasmine and, under her confused gaze, said, "Ma’am, doesn’t working in a hotel housekeeping department involve cleaning rooms? Our housekeeping jobs are also about cleaning rooms. They’re essentially the same thing. Would you like to consider it?"

"How can that be the same?" Jasmine disagreed.

But the man nodded firmly. "Of course they’re the same. It’s all just cleaning. What’s the difference?"

Jasmine was speechless.

The manager continued, "Besides, our company has different tiers for our housekeeping staff. I see you have a great image, and you have experience working in a hotel. If you’re willing to do it, we can put you in Group A. You’d be serving high-end residential clients, and you’d earn more, too."

"Cleaners are tiered?"

"Of course. Everything has a rating and evaluation system these days. Especially in Lorcain—every industry is super competitive. Ma’am, if you pass up such a good opportunity, it’ll be very hard to find another job."

Hearing this, Jasmine actually started to hesitate.

But it was only for a moment. She quickly shook her head and refused. "No, I’d better not."

Cleaning other people’s houses as a housekeeper... she could accept it for herself, but if Cecilia and Lily found out, they would definitely not approve. She’d rather not cause her daughters any trouble.

"Oh, come on, ma’am! Why are you so rigid?" The manager, however, became even more insistent. He argued his case persuasively, "Ma’am, you know too little about our industry. You really shouldn’t look down on housekeeping services. The ones who are good at it earn a lot each month, definitely no less than what you’d make working in a hotel."

"And after the probationary period, we provide a formal labor contract. We’ll pay for your social security and housing fund."

"For high-end communities, we charge by the hour. For residences or villas over a hundred square meters, several employees clean together. Each person earns one to two hundred an hour. Even if you only take one job a day, you could easily make over ten thousand a month!"

The manager’s slick pitch was clearly effective, but Jasmine still felt she couldn’t do it well. "I’ve never done it before. I have no experience."

"Don’t worry, ma’am. Newcomers here are always trained by senior staff. The pay during the probationary period is the same as a full-time employee’s. You can try it out with us on a couple of jobs first. If you feel it’s not for you, you can get paid and leave at any time. We’ll pay you for the hours you work. We won’t dock your pay."
