Reborn Rich: Prices Dropped, My Savings Didn't
Chapter 297 - 295: Help a Brother Out
The abrupt question left Ethan Sterling stunned. Kai Sherman, growing impatient, pressed him again, "Is she?"
Ethan Sterling was confused. ’But judging by Kai’s reaction, does he know my sister?’
’He had no idea what Kai’s relationship with his sister was—friend or foe, he knew nothing at all.’
Ethan Sterling was afraid of making things worse and causing trouble for his sister. So for now, he just stared at Kai, keeping his mouth shut. Even with the unconcealable anxiety flickering in his eyes, he refused to answer.
But Kai Sherman wasn’t an idiot. The photo on the screensaver was clearly a family portrait. He could tell, even without Ethan Sterling saying a word.
Golden Blade, who was standing behind Kai Sherman, was about to slip away unnoticed. But just as he lifted his foot, Kai Sherman shot out a hand and snagged him by the collar. With a sharp tug, he hauled Golden Blade right in front of Ethan Sterling.
Ethan Sterling jumped, instinctively taking two steps back.
At the sight, Jameson Stone’s expression darkened. He subtly moved to stand closer to Ethan Sterling.
"K-Kai..."
Golden Blade immediately panicked. Others might not know Kai’s temper, but he knew it all too well. Kai looked fierce, but he rarely lost his temper with his underlings. In Kai’s eyes, they were all just immature kids. He had only taken them in because he couldn’t stand to see them idling around and stirring up trouble all day.
In return, they just had to hang out at the pool hall and help out. Kai covered their food and drinks, and people treated them with respect for Kai’s sake. That was more than enough for them, and it had made them shape up a lot.
But Kai’s actions now showed he was genuinely furious. Golden Blade didn’t know why, but he couldn’t hide the terror in his heart. He immediately started begging for mercy. "Kai, I was wrong! I didn’t even touch him, I just scared him a little! I really know I was wrong!"
Recalling how Kai had recently told them all to keep a low profile, Golden Blade instinctively assumed that Kai was angry because he had been disobedient.
But Kai Sherman completely ignored Golden Blade. He turned to Ethan Sterling and asked, "Why was he trying to scare you?"
Still in Kai Sherman’s grip, Golden Blade didn’t dare move a muscle. Staring at Ethan Sterling’s face, he put on a pleading expression and apologized. "Bro, I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I was just messing with you!"
Ethan Sterling was even more baffled. ’What is going on right now?’
The next second, Kai Sherman delivered a swift kick to Golden Blade’s lower back. The force sent Golden Blade stumbling forward. Jameson Stone quickly pulled Ethan Sterling out of the way, just in time to see Golden Blade lunge forward and slam his stomach into the corner of a pool table.
He let out a pained grunt but paid the pain no mind. He quickly spun around, stood up straight, and looked at Kai Sherman in terror. "Kai, please stop! I really know I was wrong! I’ll never do it again!"
Kai Sherman stared at him coldly. "Tell me yourself. What did you do?"
’Actually, Kai Sherman had known from the start that something must have happened between Golden Blade and this high school kid. There’s no way a conflict would just start for no reason.’
’At first, since Golden Blade was his guy, he had considered letting it slide. The kid hadn’t been physically hurt, and it wasn’t like they’d caused any major disaster. It wasn’t that big of a deal.’
’But as it turned out, the son of a bitch went and bullied Cecilia’s little brother. If he did nothing today, and Cecilia found out later, he’d be facing serious consequences himself!’
Golden Blade stammered for a long time, not daring to speak plainly. From his perspective, Kai’s anger today felt unnatural and vicious; he was afraid that if he spoke up, he’d just get beaten again.
"He kicked Ethan Sterling’s bike and broke it!"
Jameson Stone suddenly spoke up.
Kai Sherman looked at Jameson Stone, then followed his gaze to the phone still clutched in his own hand. Jameson added, "The security footage is still on the phone. It was those underlings of yours, Kai."
"Your name is Ethan Sterling?" Kai Sherman asked, turning back to him.
Ethan Sterling nodded.
’No need to ask any more questions. Even the surname matched. This had to be Cecilia’s actual brother.’
Kai Sherman had Ethan Sterling unlock his phone and pull up the security footage. Ethan Sterling did as he was told.
The video didn’t show their faces clearly, but they were all Kai Sherman’s men, so he recognized all three of them at a glance.
Golden Blade was clearly the ringleader.
He looked back at the crowd behind him. A short, dark-skinned boy was trying to shrink into the background to make himself invisible, but Kai Sherman spotted him instantly.
"Monkey! You too! Get the hell out here!"
Monkey shuffled forward hesitantly. Before he could even open his mouth, Kai Sherman sent him flying with a kick.
"Caelum! Where’s Caelum!"
"Kai, Caelum isn’t here today."
"Call him. Tell him to get his ass over here within thirty minutes!"
Then, Kai Sherman suddenly extended a hand toward Ethan Sterling. Ethan flinched back subconsciously, and Jameson Stone instinctively stepped forward to shield him.
Seeing this, Kai Sherman sighed in resignation.
He looked at Ethan Sterling, his tone softening. "Don’t be afraid."
With that, he took Ethan Sterling by the arm, led him to the side, and sat him down in a chair.
"You two, get over here!"
Hearing the command, Golden Blade and Monkey scrambled to stand before Kai Sherman. They then heard Kai Sherman order, "Alright. Hands on your head, and squat."
The two of them obediently complied.
And just like that, the tables turned. Golden Blade and Monkey, who had been so arrogant in front of Ethan Sterling just moments before, were now both squatting before him with their hands over their heads.
Kai Sherman, still seated, leaned forward slightly. He held out the phone, playing the security footage for the two to see. "What makes you two so despicable? The bike was just sitting there, perfectly fine. You just had to go and kick it, didn’t you?"
After saying this, he raised a hand and slapped them both across the head several times. The two of them just hugged their heads and flinched, not daring to dodge.
"Kai, stop! We were wrong!"
"We were wrong! We’ll apologize! We’ll pay for it, anything!"
Hearing this only made Kai Sherman hit harder. The slaps on their heads echoed with dull thuds until he knocked them both to the ground.
’Pay for it?’
’Apologize?’
’This was way beyond something that could be fixed with an apology and some money.’
’Besides, Kai Sherman knew he couldn’t hide this. He had to report it himself. If Cecilia decided not to pursue it, fine. But if she did, he would be punished right alongside them.’
’But he had no way to contact Cecilia directly. He didn’t have the status to speak with her one-on-one.’
Kai Sherman returned the phone to Ethan Sterling. Then he got up, kicked Golden Blade and Monkey, and cursed, "Get to the back and wait for me!"
With that, he walked to a corner, pulled out his phone, found a number, and dialed. The call connected quickly. Before Kai Sherman even spoke, he heaved a deep sigh, then said in a pained voice, "Duane, help a brother out..."
