Reborn Rich: Prices Dropped, My Savings Didn't
Chapter 291 - 289: I Want to Ruin Him
Returning to the dorm, Cecilia Sterling had barely managed to take off her overcoat before Estelle Goodman yanked her over to the desk and pushed her into a chair.
Estelle Goodman excitedly pulled out a printed report of her initial findings and slapped it down in front of Cecilia Sterling. "Quick, take a look! See if there’s anything you wanted in here?"
Cecilia shot her an exasperated but amused look and had no choice but to start flipping through the papers.
She really didn’t know much about Eugene Jacobs. Even though he had caused her immense suffering in her past life, all she remembered was his name, his face, and his voice.
Eugene Jacobs, thirty-two years old. Originally from Crewe City. Graduate of Southern Imperial University, with a master’s degree from Lorcain University.
Married. His wife is a Lorcain native, and they have a five-year-old daughter.
He is currently the General Manager of the External Affairs Department at the Lane Group. He has six shell companies registered under his name, one of which is the very company he is using to negotiate with Cecilia.
’Registering so many shell companies... It was obvious they were for doing Walter Lane’s bidding. Possibly for tax evasion, transferring funds, or—just like now—concealing his identity to win a potential partner’s trust!’
"This first part is just basic personal information. The juicy stuff is in the back!"
Seeing Cecilia’s lack of reaction to the first few pages, Estelle quickly flipped toward the back for her and tapped the paper. "Look here. He’s keeping three girls on the side. And that’s just the three we’ve found so far. Who knows how many more there are if we dig deeper!"
"So? Pretty valuable, right?"
Cecilia studied the page intently. The investigators had also found information on the three girls. They all had their differences, but one detail was consistent across the board.
All three of them were university students!
"Cecilia, did this guy do something to you? If you want to get him, you could leak this to his wife. She’d definitely raise hell and demand a divorce," Estelle suggested.
Cecilia looked at Estelle. "Did you find anything on his wife? What’s her background?"
Estelle nodded eagerly, grabbing the papers and flipping through them. "Here it is!"
Eugene Jacobs’s wife, Faye Lawson, is a dance teacher. She’s a Lorcain local, but her family has no influence.
Cecilia gently shook her head. If the woman came from a powerful family, Estelle’s idea would have at least made Eugene Jacobs pay a heavy price.
But since his wife was just an ordinary person, that approach would be far too simple and naive to work on someone like Eugene.
"It won’t work?" Estelle asked, puzzled.
Cecilia explained in a low voice, "It’s not that it won’t work. It’s not enough. For a man in his prime and at the peak of his career, a divorce isn’t necessarily a punishment. And even if it were, it’s nowhere near enough. I want him utterly ruined and his name dragged through the mud!"
Her grim, determined tone sent a chill down Estelle’s spine. "Cecilia, what on earth did this man do to you?"
Cecilia let out a long breath, forcing herself to calm down. "He owes me. From my past life!"
Estelle probably couldn’t have guessed that this answer, which sounded so abstract to her, was the literal truth.
She didn’t press for details, just asked worriedly, "So is this information useless, then? I really thought finding out about his affairs would be a huge help."
"How could it be useless?" Cecilia smiled at Estelle. "This information is very useful. We just need to dig deeper. We’ll start with these girls he’s supporting and investigate them more thoroughly."
"Investigate these girls?"
Cecilia nodded, pointing to the files on the girls for Estelle. "Three girls. Two are sophomores, one is a junior, at three different universities in Lorcain. I want to know when these arrangements of theirs began."
Estelle’s eyes lit up. For once, her mind kept pace with Cecilia’s train of thought. She gasped, "If the arrangements started before they got into university, then some of these girls could have been underage!"
Cecilia’s expression darkened. She nodded. "If just one of them was a minor, it’ll be more than enough to land him in serious trouble!"
’I’m not the least bit surprised that a sanctimonious hypocrite like him would do something so disgusting. But no secret stays hidden forever. If he’s daring enough to juggle this many girls at once, he’s bound to have slipped up and failed to cover his tracks somewhere.’
"Estelle, tell your friends to dig into this again—carefully, thoroughly. Money is no object!"
Estelle raised a delicate eyebrow and promised, "Don’t you worry. These guys are seasoned pros with years of experience. This kind of investigation is bread and butter for them. They’ll dig up everything for you, guaranteed!"
Cecilia smiled in relief. "Thanks. I’ll be sure to thank you properly after this is all over."
"Don’t be so formal with me! I think this is really exciting. Scumbags like him deserve to be taught a lesson!"
Cecilia nodded, then instructed her, "Let’s not tell Blair for now. She’s already streaming for at least six to eight hours a day. She works hard enough as it is."
Estelle nodded. "I get it. But her channel’s numbers have been pretty good these past couple of days. I heard an MCN agency wants to sign her. If she does, the company will give her a professional team and train her to be a professional talent streamer."
"Did she sign?"
"She said she wanted to think it over. But if an agency helps promote and manage her channel, her popularity would probably get a nice boost."
Cecilia nodded silently. She wasn’t a complete stranger to the live-streaming industry. In her past life, after her younger brother retired from his professional esports team, he made a living streaming games. He had signed with an agency back then, too. But after signing the contract, the agency provided no substantial support, yet they still took half of his streaming revenue.
’Some agencies just make grand promises to sign new streamers, only to bleed them dry for profit.’
While she couldn’t judge the entire industry based on her brother’s experience, Cecilia couldn’t help but feel worried. She decided she would wait for Blair to finish her stream later that evening to discuss the matter with her properly.
But as it turned out...
"You signed?"
At nine-thirty that night, Blair returned to the dorm. When Cecilia asked her about the agency contract, Blair’s response was that she’d already signed.
Blair nodded. "Yeah, I signed."
Cecilia was left speechless, not knowing what to say. Or perhaps, it was simply too late to say anything at all.
Estelle asked, curious, "Didn’t you say yesterday that you wanted to think it over? Why did you sign so quickly?"
Blair explained, "I was going to think it over, but they told me their company is running a ’Million-Follower New Streamer’ promotional event right now, and the deadline is coming up fast. If I waited any longer to sign, I would have missed the opportunity."
"Is that event even real?" Cecilia asked, her brow furrowed. She was afraid it was just a tactic the agency used to pressure Blair into signing quickly.
